  1. The Essendon team that beat us, would beat this Essendon team by 150 points. How can a team drop off in effort and intensity this much? I don’t get it.
  2. Oh yeah, that probably makes much more sense than my suggestion!
  3. Hmmmm tough decision coming up maybe. Do you either: A) Be honest and tell your eldest that he made a poor decision in life and needs to learn a lesson in consequences. Or B) Do you lie and tell him if the Lions and Dees make the grand final in 2024, that you'll take him then. Very, very tough decision.
  4. I’m 1 behind the leader of my work footy tips so I have to pick the right roughie. hmmmm. Saints.
  5. That's an interestingly scripted website.
  6. Wouldn't believe it, it's Port.
  7. What if the AFL set draft positions (for bottom 8 teams only) in RD 22, unless you go on to make finals? That way teams that can still make finals in R22, will be too far out to purposefully try and lose as it only sabotages their finals chances? Also means R23 & R24 have no impact on draft selections unless you drop out of the top 8. And if you drop out of the 8 with one round left, that means you can still get into finals. As you’ll only be percentage or a game out. Won’t cover everything but should at least mean only the 15th/16th/17th/18th teams will try and lose to secure draft positions in RD22 (which is what’s happening with field tactics anyways).
  8. It's hard to take Cornes seriously mostly because he's essentially an external part of Ports public relations team but also... he obviously says some things purely to be a point of difference to other commentators. You can tell he doesn't believe a lot of it, as he sometimes has a wry smile on his face as he's saying it. He literally can't keep a straight face. Which means even if he makes a good point, I reflexively think 'yeah but Cornes just says anything'. Being heavily biased towards the club you played for and being a contrarian for the sake of it doesn't make a good footy journalist.
  9. Huh, gingers make up 4% of the Australian population but make up 18% of our starting 22. This must mean that Gingers are naturally predisposed to play AFL for the demons ...or... there's a pro ginger conspiracy a foot within the AFL... We might never know the truth.
  10. I have maybe seen Georgiadis in 2 games so have never really noticed him if I'm honest, but if this is anything to go by, he's doing pretty well after 49 games? After 49 games the following had: Gunstan - 86 goals Hipwood - 73 goals Jamie Elliot - 66 goals Georgiadis - 65 goals Jack Reiwoldt - 62 goals Charlie Curnow - 60 goals Fritsch - 41 goals Only 21 years old, effectively same amount of goals as Jamie Elliot, more goals than Reiwoldt, Curnow and Fritsch at the same time. Seems to be more upsides than down?
  11. That is so, so sad. Condolences to the family. How awful.
  12. I’m a very kind person
  13. Yeah that’s fair, I guess from my perspective, I don’t really care if he is being duplicitous as he has 3 flags behind him and he also spent 7 years developing a very middle of the road list. I don’t like Hardwick at all, but in pure footy terms, there’s not much more he could’ve done for that club and if him being burnt out actually means ‘I can’t be fahked spending another 7 years developing a list again’, then I get that. I have respect for any coach that can take a list, develop it over a number of years then win premiership with it. If you win 3 premierships after developing a team then hell, do what you want.
  14. Dunno, He was at the Tiges for 7 years before they won a flag. Ended up winning them 3. Been with them since 2010. Goodwin started being head coach with us in 2017 and 4 years later he got us a flag. If in 2030, Goody gets us 3 flags, decides to leave to another club that’s on the up and we’re on the decline I’d be wishing him all the best. What more could you ask for from a coach? Hardwick definitely left for money but let’s put things into perspective and be fair... In footy terms, Hardwick is nowhere near as much as a rat on a sinking ship as Ross Lyon. Gets handed Stkildas 00’s amazing list, leaves, gets handed a very good Freo list, leaves, gets handed an already developed St Kilda list AGAIN. Hardwick has done his time developing a list from scratch, Lion just walks into teams in the premiership window then leaves as soon as they show a glimmer of decline. Say what you want about Hardwicks character but at least he put in 7 years into developing a list of players and got 3 flags, unlike a certain other coach with ZERO premierships.
  15. Could you please ask, what is Jakes role within the forward line and how does his role differ from JVR/Chandler/Kozzie/ANB (both as players and who gives feedback/direction in the forward line)? Maybe a sneaky 2nd question…. How annoying is James Sicily on field?
  16. Oh absolutely. There shouldn’t be inconclusive decisions. Well, maybe 1 in 100, but I’d say it’s probably 10-15 in 100 currently. Genuine question - What do you reckon the AFL would have done if it were 1st week of finals, at the G and instead of Adelaide… it was Carlton? I wouldn’t put it past Gil to be making a frantic phone call to the fourth umpire demanding they change the result. It would be absolute carnage. The AFL is bloody lucky both these results didn’t happen in finals.
  17. I’m not defending the current system, more advocating for using what we have, whilst we have it in its current form, to correctly adjudicate a decision, despite if it take 2-3 minutes. In our game the review felt rushed (I thought they were definitely calling it a goal when they did as it felt so short)and they only reviewed the side on view once (to my memory) and in the Adelaide game it wasn’t used at all but if it were, conclusively it would have shown it was a goal. Moving forward, the AFL absolutely has to upgrade the system in the myriad of ways already listed in this thread. I also wouldn’t say I’ve seen as many as 50 reviews that were inconclusive to be fair. Definitely there’s probably been 4-5 I’ve heard about/seen where the decision didn’t seem to be correct. But this falls down on the inadequacy of the technology. My only contention is really: you can try and rush decisions to save time (and fan patience) or you can spend more time (with current tech) arriving at the correct decision. We can’t expect the current set up to be both fast and correct as it’s inadequate.
  18. Wholly agree. People forget about long reviews a couple minutes after they're over. The thing about the review for us was how short it seemed. I'm now expecting an over correction on this stuff and for more reviews. I don't really care, as long as the right call is made, I can deal with an extra few minutes of a game. It's better than the frustration of wrong decisions impacting the integrity of the game.
  19. Was a professional win for sure! Hawks are in really good form and playing at a standard well above 16th place. 27 points seems about right.
  20. Unable to see the game live so watching the replay. A very formulaic Melbourne win. Tested for a half then we start strangling the oppo and pull away in the last. We know our game inside and out, back to front. Bring on finals!!!
  21. You don't mind when games are decided by objectively incorrect umpiring calls?
  22. Oh shoot my bad, I thought you were saying they should have been waiting for the goal. My apologies! In that case you’re 100% right and I agree!
  23. Nah hard disagree, that would happen a million times and it's on the umpire to make sure the decision is correct when it clearly doesn't touch the post. Should've reviewed it. I want players celebrating after goals, especially ones that are saving their season with 1 minute left after being down by 44 points...
