  1. Or maybe "Dealings with a Bell end" bell·end [ˈbɛlɛnd] NOUN BRITISH vulgar slang the glans of the penis. an annoying or contemptible man: "he is a total bellend and should step down as soon as possible"
  2. Super talented player who may just relish being given an outside running role with lots of inside bulls. Wanted Amon but i think this could be pretty good left field option. He walks into our wing position over any of our current players. He is better on the offensive side of the ground so would make a perfect complement to Langdon who is more defensive winger. Has really nice left foot and regularly nails his passes....We are looking for connection....having Salem/Bowey/Hunter in the team would sure help in that space.
  3. Some good points but we did actually add Ben Brown which went long way towards winning us a Premiership....He was banged up this year, as were many others. Our selection policy re injured players is one of the biggest things we need to change for following year. Mostly i think we have the personnel.....Just some tweaks in gameplan, ball movement and selection integrity and we will be right in the mix again.
  4. SO you are happy with him with him as back up, but not happy to have to use him at any stage. I think Weideman if he was picked as back up ruck/forward, would be very similar to what we got from LJ this year.....He is just not a pure forward, the hybrid role suits him better. He finds a way to get into the game rather than having a few opportunities in our forward half, not taking them, and losing confidence , then dropped again. Has been a cycle that needs to stop. Much like Silvagni from Carlton. Would get much more consistent performances if he was in the play more often. He is creative enough with handballs etc to make the role work. Unfortunately i think he has been pigeon-holed into a role that does not suit him. Personally i think he still has a bit to offer, just currently not being utilised at all well.
  5. I would agree if that was all there was to the equation. Would you rather see Bowey in the team or Hunt? Where does our future lie?! Not sure that Smith will ever get a lucky run being injury free to fulfil his potential, but imo he shows a more well- rounded game. We need to make tough decisions with players that are 26, 27, 28, 29 not being inside our 10 best players. We got a few NQR's that will likely not develop much more than they are currently. We got some talented kids trying to get a shot. If this forces Goodwin to pick one of them because Hunt is gone...i think this is a good thing for us going forward!
  6. Jayden has always been a good athlete. Just not what i would call a natural footballer. Much like Frost he was unpredictable to his teammates. Although he runs fast, he runs in straight lines and often ran himself into trouble. He has played 40 games in last few years but is not vital for us imo. Usually i would put him bottom 1-10 players so i can see why Melbourne may have lowballed him on offer/duration. We need natural footballers not just athletes who adapt. Joel Smith is another like Hunt, but probably has bigger upside and on less coin. I wish him all the best luck finding new home. He is unlikely to show any further improvement at this stage of his career. Others need the development time.
  7. Pure conjecture but what if the behavioural clauses state they can dock half his contract or simply delist him as they see fit? I can see why he would not not want to sign something like that.....and the clauses are probably pages long. Collingwood will either look weak and relent on some of the clauses or will likely lose him to St Kilda, who will have many less clauses attached to his contract. Tricky one to negotiate for the Pies! Suffer!
  8. It definitely would. Somehow i think they don't have that much room salary cap wise if they low balling player like Acres, and still going to need hefty $$$ for Jackson. Lobb and few others to move yet though, so never know?!
  9. Heard yesterday on radio he is on around 850K for last 2 years of his contract....Hence why the pick 7 involved....500K they would have every club trying to make it happen!! *Sorry similar to another post i just saw.
  10. Chandler has some real jets, would be similar pace to Bedford at top speed. One of the training sessions i went to in match sims i recall was exceptional....He gathered the ball just outside the arc one handed, ran full speed at 4-5 players, baulked and shimmied around all of them the kicked a beautiful checkside goal from about 40 out. Was one of the most electrifying bits of footy i ever seen, was totally surprised to see it during a practice session! Imo Bedford gets to top pace a bit quicker but Chandler would not be far off. Kozzie, Chandler & Bedford would cause nightmares for opposition teams, really hope to see it this coming season!
  11. I think we already got a pretty natural winger in Bowey. Lovely kick, clean ball handling skills, has both an offensive and defensive side to his game....Could be great linkman between defense and attack. Just not sure Goodwin has the nous to try it. He tried Spargo there a few times which looked horrible. Bowey must be in our team somewhere next year whatever the case. He has a unique skillset that we don't have very much of. Little Woey looks like he has an extreme tank and lovely skills for maybe another winger going forward.
  12. Making the coach look bad would make Simon happy?...i would not be so sure with Goodwin. i got the feeling in 2021 he was on best behaviour and basically told to listen to his assistant coaches. 2022 so many facets of our game went slightly backwards i would not be at all surprised if we relaxed on him and he went back into normal Goodwin, i got this mode. Could list about 20 areas i believe we regressed. We got a great list, i don't think we got a great coach though honestly. Most coaches would do very well with our current list fwiw.
  13. Yeah i made ONE post after seeing few pages of back and forth.
  14. Man....if we had pick 5 quite simply he would have been a Melbourne player. No way we court players without being ableto pay them appropriately. This is always about draft picks.....same as Jackson will be......who cares how much either WC or Freo offer him, just give us the best deal! Big on numbers, low on common sense, fmd. Sorry to get personal but ffs stop banging on about last years trade deals when you clearly have no clue either way about it.
  15. Good rucks generally play into their mid 30's. He has had a year to freshen up, it is not that huge a risk honestly.....particularly with Collingwood paying portion of his lofty contract. It is more about how Goodwin decides to use these potential weapons.
  16. Either of the King brothers, Harry or Naughton would be nice!
  17. More concerned about his haircut! In seriousness though i am 50/50 also....really depends on how Goodwin is planning on using both our rucks. The could be weapons or liabilities depending on how they are used. Simon actually worries me more than anything when it comes to adjusting plans. Rarely seems to be able to do it within a season, let alone within a game
  18. I think the 700K pricetag is a massive deterrent on Lobb. He has some occasionally good moments with marks/goals, but has lacked consistency his entire career. Also could not really see Gawn/Grundy/Lobb/BB in the same team....unless our plan is to hug one side of the ground hoping they are going to clunk everything. *Please Simon, NO! Could see Petty being used as a forward. Not just for his strong marking ability but his ability to win ground balls and tackle. I think someone like BB is going to have real issues getting a game given he is a liability once the ball hits the ground. Even big forwards must pressure these days.
  19. What i would really like to know is, where is Mr Jackson in amongst all this??!
  20. Our backline is stacked with talent....The more i think about our actual gameplan though we have many issues created by the way we defend as a team. Literally our whole forward line is often inside the opps forward 50. It makes scoring hard for them, sure. It also makes scoring hard for us as we have nobody to transfer the ball up the field. Why are we doing this when our back 6 is stacked with talent and both our wings work hard defensively? Have said for fair part of this year that we simply don't put nearly enough pressure on their ball carriers....Sure we run back hard to d50 to defend but we allow them to waltz the ball up the field, often uncontested til in their half of the ground. For the dare to come to our game i think we really need to look strongly at teams like Sydney/Collingwood/Geelong as to how we can improve our ball movement and player positioning all over the field, both offensively and defensively. It concerns me with Goodwin he may just double down on what we have been doing defensively, and think we just need to do it better for longer. Last year there was trust amongst the players within games. This year it seems like when under the pump the structures and that trust diminishes. Maybe it is warranted as some bust their guts and others don't? Maybe some of our players have unconsciously been picking or choosing when to go, i am not sure what the real issue is, but trust certainly has come into it! Fremantle and Carlton to a certain degree took our blueprint this year. It worked for both of them in large parts. Ultimately though some teams have evolved into much more attractive game style that actually counters a lot of these defensive type styles. Come finals the defensive styles did not hold up vs Collingwood/Sydney/Geelong. Ironically, all of these teams changed in part due to the dominant type finals we had last year. I think we need to change quite a bit to actually contend again next year, an exciting style that keeps both the players and the supporters invested and excited. If we don't evolve and our gameplan stays the same or similar, sure we will make finals but very unlikely to do damage against the new breeds of teams when it matters.
  21. Mentality....Even during the 10-0 start we were getting out to handy leads then cruising or trying to just hold on for the win. I would say we flirted with form, we stopped short of developing being ruthless when we were dominating, then took the foot off the pedal/we relax.
  22. Talent only takes you so far. Melbourne won a Premiership last year after an honesty session on Staffords farm. Players asking why we were basically so carp. Some home truths obviously emerged. Our better players had to be more damaging. Our lesser players had to put in far more effort. Collectively they knew our list was good enough, but there was something missing. Was it attitude, was it honesty, was it not wanting to waste an opportunity with a very good list? This whole culture thing comes massively into play for successful sporting organisations across the globe. The terms "respect" and "great people that care" is often thrown around these successful mobs. Perhaps is too soon for Melbourne supporters to reflect openly about where we went wrong. Seems to be lot of angry people wanting blood, not excuses, nor intangibles about culture! We have never had a good culture, not in my lifetime anyway, and i am close enough to 50 now. To think that it is a non factor in terms of long or even short term success is borderline madness. Teams like Geelong & Syney and now Richmond is hellbent on building this intangible thing called culture. It means players down to boot studders want to be at the place quite simply. They feel valued and respected. I really can't see that we are much different, we are also trying to build up this culture thing. Remember a French mate telling me Aussies had less culture than a spoonful of yoghurt, was funny at the time. Culture is basically having standards across the entire operation, it actually is not that intangible to accept that it even exists, even if you believe it has zero validity!
  23. What do we have a squad for? There is no way that Salem showed more on the training track to get automatically reinserted into the team. Did he put his hand up say i am right? Did we just pick him with blind faith that even though clearly not fit he would be better than other fit players? I would say both culture and injuries affected our season. We had plenty of chances to freshen players up. We had an in form Casey team all year. We gave virtually the same 22 opportunity all season and by the end of it they were banged up. To say that it just one area or another is complete folly. If we review this years fadeout simply due to injuries we are in for a world of hurt next year!
  24. Yet we have underperforming players all year across the field. i hardly think Chandler got a chance, nor Dunstan. We also seemed to pick Weid when he was out of form. We don't really have selection criteria, or at least certainly not a rigid one.
