CHANGES: Rd 06 vs Richmond
I remember Allen Jakovich kicking 13 or 14 in the reserves one day. Iām not sure if he was promoted the next week, the powers at the club kept him waiting and waiting before he debuted in the seniors.

CHANGES: Rd 06 vs Richmond
People calling for May to replace Petty? May received a very nasty knock to the eye against Geelong, Iād be surprised to see him back so soon after. Or has his recovery been so good?

Ticketek - A Painfully Long Explanation
Iām twice your age praha (to put it mildly) and I spent much of my working life working with computers so I really have no fear of modern technology. However having to go onto Ticketek to obtain seats was for me a new experience. It was very frustrating initially, but after a few minutes mucking around on the site I was able to get in and obtain my ticket (I had to join which gave me the sh*** ). The site reminds me in some ways of eBay 20 years ago, somewhat unorganised and not human friendly. The site is there for one reason only and that is to sell tickets and make a profit: if you canāt manipulate the site, someone else can and they get the ticket! Tough luck! An unfriendly, inhuman experience. And while I am used to this sort of technology, the experience of going up to a window at a venue, smiling at the person behind the window and saying ā2 tickets pleaseā remains a joy I hope will still be with us into at least the near future! ps: I still pay cash at the service station?.

Carl Ditterich on The Front Bar
I remember that game very well indeed, one of those games one never forgets. Ah, the good old days when behind the game play was as enjoyable to watch as the play itself (ya got two games for the price of one?) I also loved the way Carl spoke about Robbie Flower, with respect and awe while all the time juggling a beer!

PREGAME: Rd 01 vs Fremantle
There are small areas for standing room on level one, ground floor scattered around the ground. I think there is room for about 5,000 standing room patrons. However Iām not sure in this environment what rules will apply. Probably a phone call to the ground would be your best bet.

PREGAME: Rd 01 vs Fremantle
Got level 3 in front of Grey Smith Bar, very handy if needed! So if we win Iāll need to use it and if we donāt Iāll definitely need to use it?!

Ron Barassi
A very happy birthday Ron. Gee, you broke my little heart when you went to Carlton, but all is forgiven. I trust we see you at the footy again this year all wrapped up in your red and blue scarf and cheering on your Demons.

Drop Kicks
Yes, but could they kick??!

Drop Kicks
The drop kick to execute properly takes a fraction more time and players leave themselves open to being run down or to miss kicking! Itās still used extensively in rugby union and on occasion in American football. And as far as I can remember, Billy Barrott playing for Richmond was probably the best.

WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - FRASER ROSMAN
Agree there the lad certainly has quite a bit going for him but he needs to bring the bits together ( and here Mark Williams expertise comes in to play)! And of course a pick in last years draft at around 34 has so far performed very well for us, so Iāve got my fingers crossed for this one as well.

Pies into Petracca?
How many AFL players end up playing for the club they followed when they were boys? Very few I suspect. The draft doesnāt work that way and the kids know and accept the situation! (Christian Salem and family were all keen Essendon supporters but they all support Melbourne now)!

Farewell Oscar McDonald
If I remember correctly Oscar was/is academically quite gifted so football may well be just a brief adjunct to a fuller life. Good luck to him?!

2020 Player Reviews: #17 Harley Bennell
One of the great disappointments of 2020, especially concerning the time effort and money put into his rehabilitation! Again, most disappointing!

Training at the MCG
I think that was prior to finals! Quite acceptable, and they were on the ground for only an hour or so! Now the problem with using the ground for training on a regular basis are many, First of all the work being done on the ground during week days is quite extensive including mowing in summer every day and daily fertilising, together with turf replacement on a regular basis. Plus of course regular watering and working on the wicket area. In other words there are people working on the ground almost non stop. ( I think the MCC employs eight to ten full time ground staff). In winter the ground is mown twice weekly but other work as described above (excluding working on the cricket wickets) still continues! And added to that is the use in winter of large portable banks of lights, to stimulate grass growth, especially on that northern section of the ground which gets little or no direct sunlight during winter. These banks of lights would certainly prove difficult to manoeuvre around at training as they can occupy half the ground. There are times when the ground would be free for training but not on a regular daily week to week basis unfortunately. Another point is that training on the G is certainly not āprivateā or ā closed sessionā as there are people present all the time including multiple tour groups, trades people, MCC and MFC office workers, catering staff etc. so whatever football training session took place on the ground could be viewed by dozens of if not hundreds of people! I would love to see Melbourne train on the cricket ground but I doubt it could be on a regular weekly basis: once in a while maybe!!!
