  1. So, #2 has been given the year off!
  2. Dunstan’s from South Australia I believe. I wonder if he’s related to Don?
  3. I suppose I cheated! I borrowed a digital copy from the local library and read it in two sittings! And no I’m not a skinflint but as a retiree and having purchased the supa dupa Demons 2021 box set for $139.95 and renewed my club membership I’ve spent my football allowance for the year. It was certainly an enjoyable read😀.
  4. I think I’ve solved the problem: 6’8” is 208000000 micrometers (give or take)! That’s very tall😀!
  5. And 93 scoring shots to 43: wow, some finals campaign eh!
  6. Wasn’t Max a Richmond supporter in his younger days?
  7. i appreciate your frustration but the MCC and Cricket Australia take the condition of the playing surface very, very seriously. The ground is reserved for cricket well into the new year and all the artificial cricket pitches are kept ready for use until the end of the cricket season. . If I may be so bold, may I suggest you take a tour of the MCG one day and see the amount of activity going on at almost any time of the day. Not only on the ground but in and around the stands and in the basement areas near changing rooms and the like. Not ideal conditions for football training and certainly not ideal for any closed shop training! You may be surprised at the amount of time taken not just mowing the grass but also laying fertiliser, replacing damaged turf (it comes in rolls) and painting and repainting markers and signage on the oval. There are something in the order of 8 to 10 specialists employed to look after the turf. It’s a very big business. Regarding the artificial lights. The artificial lights are used during the day and into the evening in winter on the northern section of the ground where the sun does not shine, they stimulate grass growth. And being modular they are spread all over the place: quite an obstacle course! Again I appreciate your frustration and the frustration of others but the days when one could pop into the MCG (as I did) years ago and watch training are long gone.
  8. I wish what you hope for was realistic but I’m afraid it would be very difficult to achieve. Firstly the cricket pitches (between eight and ten) and surrounds take up a very large part of the central area of the ground: they are sacrosanct as far as the Cricket Club and Cricket Australian are concerned and when not being maintained on a daily basis are roped off, thus restricting access to a large section of the ground. I can assure you that other than ground staff and authorised personal, no one is allowed near them. Go to the MCG on any non match day summer, autumn, winter or spring and you will see workers on the ground for hours at a time. In summer the grass is mown daily to keep it at 12mm in height and in winter it is mown less regularly keeping the grass to 24mm high. There is just too much activity on the ground to accommodate regular football training. Also, and to further complicate matters, in winter large bank of lights are arranged over sections of the ground to stimulate grass growth. It would be impossible for footballers to train under such circumstances. Football teams are allowed access to the ground under special circumstances (e.g. prior to finals, for instance West Coast 2018) but this access is on a get on, get off after say 60 minutes basis. I could go further but I hope that gives you some idea of the obstacles faced! Unfortunately this is how it stands: I wish it were otherwise but it is not!
  9. I’m not sure if this has been covered before but - DVD Land is selling a complete MFC season DVD box set for $149.95 containing every game of the season including the grand final in high def. and special commentary. Does anyone have it? As the proud owner of 3 blu ray players (one used to play very high quality music over hi fi system) I think I may invest in this set!
  10. A real trier, the sort of player I love to watch. And a player who radiates joy and commitment on the field (and no doubt off as well)! Well done Alex on reaching the 100 game milestone and becoming a premiership player!
  11. That’s good. Was going to get the box set from dvd land but I’d rather purchase from “us”. And furthermore as the owner of 3 dvd blu ray players (one used exclusively for audio only) I’ll be able to happily watch replays on old technology for years to come!😀!
  12. It did for a time, but returned to the fold when Jim Stynes was MFC president. If you look at the history of the football club you’ll find why they are so closely tied.
  13. Correct, the football club has a separate board but still gets some help from the cricket club. Years ago the MCC was more hands on, but no more.
  14. The Melbourne Football Club is a sporting section of the Melbourne Cricket Club. No other football club has such a relationship. Oh, and around 65,000!
  15. Gary Pert was interviewed yesterday by Derwayne on SEN, in which he talked merchandise, home base, team spirit etc, etc. an interesting and quite informative interview. Unfortunately I can’t locate it on the SEN web site as it’s worth hearing. Maybe someone can find it and provide a link.

  17. Love Charlie’s work this year. IMHO he’s become a ducking good player!
  18. Would it be fare to say that winning a game against Geelong with a kick after the siren is up there with winning a game against Collingwood by a point?

  21. OK so not too many at the ground but hundreds of thousands watching from all over Australia (and the world, if they know how). Look out for the large retailers flogging huge tv’s over the next few weeks: finals, spring carnival etc. Not too many at the ground unless it’s in Perth but still a very big audience with we hope a groundswell of support for Melbourne!
