INTRACLUB: Friday 13th February 2026
Lots of talk about how we’re moving the ball but any evidence what they look like running the other way? That’s the bigger question mark for me this year with this new midfield (and forward line)

I agree, it’s way too early.

AI in Footy
This is worth the read; https://x.com/mattshumer_/status/2021256989876109403?s=46&t=x6XYZGpTmbqJiUFTL0LTGQ Here’s an AI-generated 10 bullet point summary of the article if you couldn’t be bothered reading; AI disruption is happening now — Matt Shumer says recent advances mean artificial intelligence isn’t a distant trend but a present reality changing work today. It’s “bigger than COVID” — He compares the sudden impact of AI to how fast the pandemic changed life, arguing the shift could be similarly abrupt. Personal experience as evidence — Shumer says AI has already replaced his own technical work, completing tasks he once did. New models are game-changing — He highlights powerful recent models (like GPT-5.3 Codex and Anthropic’s Opus 4.6) as evidence of rapid progress. Free AI is outdated — Shumer says most people judge AI based on older free tools, while current paid versions are far more capable. Not just predictions — it’s already happening — He stresses that insiders are reporting what’s occurring in jobs now, not just forecasting. Major job disruption risk — Shumer cites views that up to half of entry-level white-collar jobs could be affected within a few years. Learn and adopt AI or fall behind — He urges individuals to become proficient with AI tools quickly to stay relevant in careers. Judgment and creativity challenged — According to Shumer, newer AI shows signs of judgment and “taste,” not just rote tasks. Urgent wake-up call — The essay is intended as a clear warning to people outside tech that AI’s impact will arrive sooner than most expect.

AI in Footy
We are increasingly using LLMs in my line of work and the thing most people just don’t understand at the moment is the ferocious speed of change in the space. The exponential growth is bats*it frightening. Most people still cite their experience with the free version of ChatGPT 12 months ago and will say something like ‘it made mistakes and it will always need humans to review/correct it’. I can guarantee you, that is an extremely dated and narrow view of the cutting edge capability that exists now. The last 3 months alone has seen huge evolution, we are using it for stuff now that wasn’t on our radar before Christmas. Not inconceivable that it largely replaces or completely transforms the role of the line coach within 3 years. I can see clubs saving on the soft cap by replacing opposition analysts with it within 12 months. I also think it will soon be analysing vision in real time in games and identifying tactical plans, opposition strengths/weaknesses and players’ performance. I would be shocked if the next major change in game style isn’t AI-driven. Huge area for competitive advantage within the next 5 years. I can only hope we’re not asleep at the wheel on this one (which I fear we are, per usual).

PRESEASON TRAINING: Wednesday 11th February 2026
He certainly was a wise, insightful man. I used to enjoy another of his famous musings; “Können wir dieser endlosen Kette unnötiger Verletzungen bitte ein Ende setzen, bevor die verdammte Saison überhaupt beginnt?”

The New Home Base & Training Ground Thread
Assuming you want an answer and you’re not just having a whinge, I’d recommend you actually read the thread where there are multiple people explaining why this negotiation is taking time.

That is Dingley, not Waverley

The New Home Base & Training Ground Thread
We whinge about not having a home base, but I’d take a wait rather than being in deadset central nowhere like the Dorks

South side = our own space vs shared facilities in the north.

And was the big meeting a bbq?

In that the southeast corner doesn’t have an existing tunnel to access the inner (but the north option does)?

The New Home Base & Training Ground Thread
Getting lost in my north’s and south’s here but I think the gist of it is the MRC would like to house the Dees, themselves and the glasshouse all in one spot…

The New Home Base & Training Ground Thread
The school isn’t involved in negotiations, that is right. Their deal with the MRC ahead of ours just altered the landscape for the MFC, pardon pun. As incumbent tenants the MRC is absolutely involved, even though it is the Trust’s land. Also, in one scenario they get a new headquarters out of it, in another they don’t.

The New Home Base & Training Ground Thread
Maybe they feel a public announcement committing us to Caulfield doesn’t help their position in negotiations? Feasible they are telling the trust/MRC ‘it’s either the site we want (or site you want but with fewer parties sharing the facilities) or we go to Waverley or back to the drawing board’.

The New Home Base & Training Ground Thread
Not what I am hearing. I didnt say stopped it, I said complicated it.
-
The New Home Base & Training Ground Thread
Nothing particularly salacious, they just can’t agree on a location. The sale of land to Mount Scopus complicated everything. From what I understand MRC have one site in mind and the MFC another. the one the MRC have in mind looks the better of the two to my eye but it might involve shared facilities (only speculating but perhaps that is why MFC prefer the other site?). Already mentioned in this thread is that further complicating all of this is that it is a negotiation that spans 3 parties, not 2.

Jai Culley Breakout Season?
Yes. They’re making him sound like the next Patty Cripps.

Farewell Clayton Oliver
Be interested to see if GWS are still laughing it off if/when you put them through what you put our football club through. My primary-school-aged children are more accountable than this bloke.

The Midfield - where do the Demons stand?
Geelong’s midfield in the pre-season ahead of their 2022 flag looked bottom 6. Collingwood’s midfield in the pre-season ahead of their 2023 flag arguably not much better to the eye. Depth of rotation options through the midfield much more important than the ‘big 4’ which used to dominate stoppage-based footy.

The Ox Worried About the Dees in 2026
He’s right, right? We finished 14th and then lost 2 club legends (and 2025 top 10 b&f) and a rising star in Judd. Better for the long term but it’d be impressive and unexpected by most if we improve on 14th

New Coach, New Captain?
I don’t get the love for Rivers as a potential captain, needs to focus on becoming a better-than-ok footballer first.
