  1. Fun thread after a win; 6 Gawn 5 Oliver 4 Trac 3 McD 2 Billings 1 Koswah my goodness TMac to def excited me today. And Billings in the side bloody hell
  2. You’ll probably find Newscorp are more motivated by making money from people reading their articles than stirring up two tall people who play football.
  3. Yeah everyone gets filthy when they’re dropped but his level of filthiness was: ‘what am I even doing here/I want to leave’ 3 months after he was dropped.
  4. I’m in your camp on this, head trauma is different to other injuries, but with some time to consider it I can see why the AFL are taking their time and treading carefully here - they don’t want to create a scenario where clubs and players can start using the words ‘medical retirement’ to trigger a full and quick payment to a player outside of the cap.
  5. There’s another team who have figured out how to win tight matches.
  6. Didn’t realise he was contracted, thought this was his final. My bad. We’ll take Rankine and 6 first rounders pls.
  7. Worth noting that; - half time reporter was Theodore Doropolous - Theo has just scored the job of his lifetime with ch7 in Melbourne - Theo is from Adelaide - if I were Theo I’d be leveraging my network back home to score early points in my new plush gig - Theo has 6 O’s n his name. Can’t be trusted.
  8. That moment has passed. Maximum trade value was last yr when he was still in contract. Mid-ish first rounder is what the offer will be otherwise they’ll threaten to take him to pre-season draft where everyone will baulk at his heavily front-ended deal and desire to be back home. Goodwin gambled on him being a critical piece in a premiership tilt this year. I don’t blame Goodwin, but it isn’t looking great for us at the moment.
  9. Hang on, aren’t we trying to be the Yankees?
  10. Tomlinson wanted to leave last year but Goodwin told him in his review that he was a required player. He was filthy when he got dropped last yr after his best game in the red and the blue.
  11. Can only guess that Tommo wasn’t following the more subtle KPIs that armchair fans just aren’t as aware of - like maintaining a sub-20% goal kicking accuracy or bombing it to nobody for at least 60% of your possessions.
  12. I think Goody just enjoys f*%ng with Tommo’s mind
  13. I’m not sure he is capable of reverse psychology… in fact I’m not even convinced he knows which player he is talking about here
  14. Re. Brayshaw’s payout; ”Fellow AFL 360 co-host Mark Robinson called for the funds to be taken from inside Melbourne’s salary cap.” And then he goes on to qualify that with; “My gut feel is if you sign someone to a long-term deal – I don’t want to be flippant about this but unless someone passes or literally can’t play football beyond circumstances it should go in the cap.” ummm is being forced to medically retire pretty much exactly “can’t play football beyond circumstances”? the Slobinator really Knows how to push my buttons.
  15. I like the idea of them casting votes before sighting stats and then getting the opportunity to review/amend their votes in light of the stats. Helps avoid stats-bias in their instinctive decision but also allows them to correct any howlers that perhaps they got wrong because their mind was elsewhere in the game (ie officiating it).
  16. Had a lunch once with Dillon, Gill and others senior people in the AFL (as part of a partnership agreement). I was seated next to Dillon and the late Ray Gunston - both lovely blokes and very friendly. Gil, on the other hand, was arrogant and rude. Hope Dillon gets a decent crack at it, a significantly better human than the last two blokes in the chair.
  17. No, we wouldn’t, but with talk now on this thread that Adam Tomlinson might be the solution up forward I am beginning to worry we’re entering a terrifying phase of Melbourne Football Club Supporter Forward Line Concern Syndrome.
  18. Our game plan isn’t based on Max taking marks. Our game plan is actually based on ball coming to ground and contested possession, of which Max’s ruckwork is the starting point. The marks are a bonus.
  19. Let’s just say I didn’t have AFL recruiters knocking down my door. For all of his shortcomings at the top level, Brent was actually a fairly handy junior footballer
  20. Our lack of fight at the right time in important matches of recent memory is the thing that is worrying me most at the moment… we’re hungry and brave in the first five minutes and then go cold when the game is on the line. Glad someone thinks this is easy to fix. I couldn’t think of anything harder to fix. Silver lining I suppose but the 15 minutes we play poorly seems to be the most important 15 minutes of games.
  21. Going to be hard playing from the back pocket! Brent Grgic kicked 10 on me from a half back flank in school footy once… I chalked it up as a ‘learning opportunity”
  22. @binman Would also love a direct comparison of our midfield setup/positions last night vs. finals in 2023 and also vs. that practice match against Carlton where it felt like Salem and Kossie ran through the guts more
  23. I think you missed my point. I’m not arguing whether it is mental or not, I am suggesting there might be a better game plan than playing all of our cards in the first 10 minutes if there is mourning evidence it doesn’t work for us
  24. One perhaps for Senor @binman: It feels like is we’ve become pretty good at jumping teams early with contested possession and forward thrusts, but with the 5-10 mins of dominance yielding no scoreboard pressure. Is it possible to look at pressure rating for parts of a quarter - i.e first 5 mins - for the Sydney match and then our two pre-season matches? Starting to feel we may well be better off reserving some gas early parts of a match and picking off the opposition like they do us.
