  1. Sometimes it is just not worth debating such serious issues, with those wedded to what they seem to be. Unlike alcohol, which yes, can be a familial curse, gambling goes way deeper in terms of corruption, which has already been proven and prosecuted. Yes, we are a sporting club, in a very competitive market, hoping like all clubs, we can attract and retain kids, who will end up being stalwarts. Kids do not need to be exposed to this curse.
  2. We took the right stand. Took commitment and principle. I, for one, am proud of the club for doing so.
  3. Trot out the tired old and hackneyed cliches. Gambling on pokies is insidious and destroys families. No if's or buts. When addiction takes hold, it becomes a sickness. There is no longer a 'choice'. It becomes a fight to beat the black dog. It can never be underestimated, just how tough that fight can be.
  4. Sorry, but it's what I do for a job. Obviously I need to get another job. Check the stats and if you still think that you are right, please provide your source.
  5. Under Howard the Net Overseas Migration (NOM) was higher then, under Howard and his immigration Minister, Phillip Ruddock, was higher than it is now in real terms. Overseas property investment largely caused the housing crisis.
  6. Kicking for goal? Yes, certainly an issue. Lack of separation in the forward line? Yes, woeful. But for me the problem goes deeper than that. Basic skills are missing. Fumbling, missing targets by both hand and foot and conceding possession time and time again from the opposition's point kick ins. So often, we see the oppo going coast to coast from their backline, without one of our players touching the ball. Yet, when we kick in, it is mostly down the line to a pack and therefore virtually a 50/50 contest. We transition from defence to attack mostly under intense pressure, but don't return the favour going the other way. Yesterday, to me, Viney was clearly underdone, as a result of his hand injury, Clarrie still doesn't look fit to me and Trac looks unfit, or he either is carrying an injury or he's lost interest. When you have a core group of players who look out of sorts, then it becomes contagious among the younger blokes. May and Lever are not the focussed and reliable backs they were. Of course if any of this is true, then it begs the question; WHY? What is the root cause? I do not believe we are as bad as some of our results may suggest, but as supporters, we are entitled to question and expect answers, over and above motherhood statements.
  7. Gawn. He can't keep carrying this side. Tried his guts out. Yes his kicking wasn't good, but even if half the side had his endeavour, we would have been much closer. 3 Words? Not Gawn's Fault.
  8. As expected, the usual media trolls are bristling with their criticism of this deal. Too long; to expensive. Of course, they have no idea what clauses are contained within any contract. I suspect there will be a range of "get out" clauses written into it, both for the club and Kozzie. There are also other aspects that are involved with such contracts. 1. It increases the value of the currency, should a trade be on the table in the future. 2. The marketing value of this signing is immense, in terms of potential membership numbers, sponsorships and making the club more attractive for players who may see the MFC increasing its gravitas as a destination club. In business, this is commonly referred to as below the line marketing.
  9. So why wasn't interference run for him. Windhager did a great job on Kozzie, but there needed to be a "screen" for Kozzie. The other thing is again, we give up so much possession from a point kick in. So often, St.Kilda went coast to coast, without a Melbourne player touching the footy. We looked flat today. No spark.
  10. Just a word to the "blokes". It is not the way we usually roll, but be there for your mates, even when you think they're being D'heads. Sometimes the signs aren't always evident, but if they are mates, wrap your arms around them. Even if it is only metaphorically. A hug can sometimes be the best medicine there is. Go well everyone.
  11. After the announcement of Paul Guerra as CEO, Garry Lyon was on 360 and provided 4 bullet points, that he saw as what should be Guerra's first priorities. One of those bullet point was "stop the leaks". I would love to find out just what Garry knows and whether he is aware of the source/s. In my view, it is as a result of the internal white anting that saw the media pile on commence and perpetuated. We need to rid ourselves of this undermining influence.
  12. Agree with this. While Fullarton wasn't prolific last Saturday, I liked what I saw. He is a big unit and has finally got his crack at it. I really want to see him back up and get more confidence. I believe, if he gets some consistency, he could be a real asset.
  13. In my view, Langford should have started, not be sub.
  14. I had organised to go with a mate of mine, who is in his 80's. He rang me around lunch time and said he would prefer not to go, given the weather. I was not going to argue with him. I went on my own. The fact of life for the MFC is that we have a significant cohort of supporters in that age bracket. That is just the way it it it is. Would have been far worse, if it was a twilight game. That said, I feel shattered with the result right now.
  15. My concern is that if we get the rain that is forecast, we are going to need "legs", not "talls"
  16. Great report RL23. Thank you.
  17. Ummm. We won by 47 points, with at least 9 of our best missing, Norf had maybe 2 of their best missing - Simpkin being one. Although only a practice match, I am very upbeat about today's effort. We saw some kids today, who will be very good, going forward.
  18. This man has a very impressive CV, in his area of expertise. I trust he can help with mindset and "culture".
  19. I acknowledge that training simulations are a long way from actual match day, but so far, I am really impressed with AJ's aggression, use of his body and seems to have a sure pair of hands. I also think he can really make an impact as a ruck/forward. Only time will tell if he is up to the 'big' time.
  20. Have I missed it? Or does the CEO's B&F address NOT feature on the MFC websiste?
  21. Clickbait Kornes' recipe is a basic and simple one. Proffer football stories, which are unsubstantiated, with no basis in fact. Never admit you're wrong and rely on the old axiom of 'Don't shoot the messenger'. Nudge the snowball at the top of the hill and let it grow as it rolls and watch the tabloids give it weight. All care and no responsibility. The bloke is as dry as a chip and will eventually become stale. Channel 7 may well rue the day they hired him.
  22. I hope his health is OK. I wish him no grief. But how on earth the man was ever chief football reporter for the Hun and on 360 remains a mystery. The man is almost illiterate.
  23. Neither has ANYTHING that has be reported PROVEN to be CORRECT. All there has been is scandalous hyperbole. Support your club, not the media hacks champ.
  24. Ahhhh. That old chestnut. We used to have journos that checked their facts before 'reporting' messages, for which they checked the facts first, rather than rely on suspect 'leaks', social media and being clickbait junkies, all for the sake of ratings. The likes of Morris are no more than mercenaries.
  25. Look at Tom Morris' record, since he was at the MFC as a junior journalist. Maybe sour grapes, maybe the compelling need to be mercenary. Either way, it was he who started the rapid descent of the snowball. Why?
