Sibosado - Possible Pre-Season #1 Draft Pick from 2008
furious d replied to Tex's topic in Melbourne Demons
The only place I can find reference to Casey's bad attitude is on here from people with no idea. I have read that his psyche testing at DC was one of the best of the group. Accusations such as he didn't attend all Chargers training sessions, that prove he's lazy are a nonsense. He was concentrating on school footy, just out of curiousity does anyone know how often Jack went to Dragons training while he was concentrating on school footy. The kid freely admits he's not an endurance athlete, or as fit as he should be, but that can be addressed. We need some big bodies coming through with the whippets. Casey could provide our forward line with a bash and crash option like Neita used to. What I love most about the highlights is the way he brings those around him into the game with a quick handball and shepard. If we don't snaffle him with PSD pick 1 I hope he's still there to rookie. It'll be very interesting to see who we invite to train with us. -
Sibosado - Possible Pre-Season #1 Draft Pick from 2008

He didn't get picked up so he's a drug addict or has "big personal issues" You lot should be ashamed of yourselves, and probably sued for defamation  According to someone on bigfooty he tested very well in the psyche tests at draft camp, one of the best this year apparently. The big question mark is that he apparently goes missing for long periods. People seemed to rate him anywhere from top 25, Emma Q included, to a rookie pick up. Hopefully he'll fall in between that in the PSD, preferably pick 1 It'll be interesting to see who we invite to train with us -
Sorry Neita no disrespect intended, but if Col wins the Brownlow in 2009 he still should have absolutely NO chance of being captain in 2010. He's shown very little to date and 1 season doesn't make a captain.

Every draft pick is a risk, you just do the homework and back your judgement

Prismall is a proven VFL mid Fork. He plays seconds when none of geelong's top mids are injured. Don't you remember Heff Fork. It's a hell of a lot easier for Prismall to look good when he has Ablett, Bartel and co around him.

Get your dictionary out mo. Look up "want". Is the definition "does't care"? No I didn't think so. I know exactly what I wrote, it's not my fault you can't understand what you read. I'm beginning to understand why you post such drivel

Don't know much about Lynch. Does anyone know why he has listed Shoenmakers as a medium forward at 193.4cm while Lynch is a tall forward at 191.7. I have heard that many don't consider Shoenmakers a KP, more a third tall. Is Lynch stronger? better overhead?, bigger bodied? I understand the way you play can be the diff in being considered tall, medium or small regardless of height, just wondering what it is about Lynch that has him considered a tall. Personally I'd take Mckernan, Brown, Shoenmakers or Lisle before Lynch but only because I don't know much about him. And I agree with the almost consensus, if Swift is there at 17 grab him before WC do.

Cheers melbman, I think it could be 20, never used it before. Do you have any idea how much data half an hour or so would use? I could live with not finding out who we got at 35 and beyond for an hour or 2 but I want to know who we get with 1, 17 and 19 right now, but will settle for the instant they are announced.

Where exactly did I say I WANT 2 more years like this one mo. Personally I don't think the AFL will let us die in the next 3 years or so, no real evidence to back it up but I think they'll give Jimma a chance to steady the ship. I base my opinion of our talls on the 15 or so games I went to last year, where you there? Yes we unearthed some decent tall defenders last year (the one shining light in a dismal year) but right now they've shown some potential, they need to back it up this year before I'd rate any of them ahead of Croad or Brown. Let me ask you do you rate Carroll as a star, he had one decent year too. Who exactly are these quality KP forwards who never had a chance? Miller? Could of traded him for a pack of chips last year and 99% of posters on here would have been over the moon. Or is it Newton, he's shown plenty hasn't he mo, and you're calling me stupid. Did our rucks impress you mo? I'm struggling to see who all these quality talls on our list are, could you enlighten me?

We have the most ineffective bunch of talls in the league, this draft is chockablock with talls. Talls take at least an extra year to develop and we're likely to have a fair run at next years draft. Last year we drafted 2 mids in the top 15. Buckley, Jones, Grimes and Morton are all under 21. There's already at least some potential in the midfield, the same can't be said about tall forwards. Every decision we make needs to be aimed at 2011-2014. I couldn't give a stuff if we get the next 2 spoons as long as we're up and firing then. Roost it gets it. Think long term, next year is irrelevant. Oh, and Roost it I haven't seen much of McNamara but from what I've heard he doesn't play tall. Wheat is 189 and noone would consider him a tall. Frawley is 193cm but hasn't shown anything to suggest he'll wind up a KP, Garland is 191 and can play small or tall. These blokes are in between small and tall and much depends on the way they play. This has been a big problem for us. CAC wouldn't know a KPP from a KRAPP. We have a plethora of 190- 193 cm players that won't develop into the KPP's they were drafted as. Think Dunn, Bate, Frawley etc

Last year I was working draft day. Set my phone to alert me to our selections, they arrived today! Better late than never i suppose. Live on my 3g phone could be the go this year. Does anyone know how expensive that's likely to be?
-
3 mids? we should rename ourselves the Melbourne dwarves. This draft is touted as the superdraft for talls, something we are seriously lacking in and that takes longer to develop. If we pick 3 mids in our top 4 we deserve to be shizen.
-
Good, hopefully that means we're looking at talls and pacey mids.

I'd back Wheels in, maybe Pettard. There's only so many spots on a list old55. If we have 30 small defenders that can't beat Rioli do we keep drafting them? There's other positions to fill. I wouldn't draft anymore small defenders until some of the underperforming one's we are currently stuck with are delisted. So Matty Scarlett is only down back because he's not good enough to play forward? Do you really believe that? We currently have 1 and a half KPF's on our list. Not our 22, OUR LIST! And Miller is the 1, a year ago I would have been shouted down for even suggesting that. So by my count we have 10 mids per KPF, still well short of your 1 to 4 quota. I understand what you're saying about our lack of quality in the midfield and among our small defenders but it's far far worse when you look at our tall forwards and rucks.
-
Agree with your point about disposal AoB, that's why I'd like to see Green used exclusively in defense this year. Bell has 1 year left on an AFL list unless he can seriously improve this year and I expect Bartram to be competing for the run with role that he did so well pre injuries. Wheels, Wheat, Green, Frawley and Garland can play small with Riv, Martin, Garland again and Warnock as the talls. We picked up 2 bottom age small defenders last year, I don't see any room on our list for more small defenders while we have no forwards to speak of, bugger all speed in the midfield, and possibly the worst ruck division in the league. Defenders are the least of our problems
-
For small backs we've got Bartram, Bell, Pettard, Wheatley and Whelan. Cheney and McNamara are developing and Bruce, Buckley, Green, Frawley, Garland and Jmac, even Grimey are all possibilities to play as small defenders at some point this year. 14 not enough for you Old55? You must've loved CAC all he ever drafted was flankers. Forget defenders, we've got plenty of them. I'd like to see Green used more as the creative defender running off half back this year, should be his full time position IMO. Best available is a load of crap! Last I checked draftee's don't come tagged with their position in the running order of talent. Stop the draft at any point after the first few and ask all 16 recruiters who"s best available out of what's left and you'll get at least 10 different answers. Best available is what got us in this mess in the first place. Take pick 17 for example. Say McKernan and Yarran are both available. I'd take McKernan even if I thought Yarran was slightly better as a footballer. KPP's and Rucks are less common than mids, flankers and pockets, this needs to be considered. And before you start screaming "Molan" at me, let me answer it with Rioli, the hawks wouldn't have won the flag this year without him. I'm not suggesting we take say a Redden before a Yarran because we need a ruckman, but if 2 players are similarily rated in terms of ability we MUST take talls before smalls and forwards before defenders. I'd be stoked if we picked 3 talls with our first 4 picks, 2 KPF's and a ruckman. Watts with 2 of Mckernan, Trengove, Lisle, Roughead, Cornelius, Shoenmakers or Brown, maybe even Redden though he could possibly still be there for our fifth pick. Look at ouir list, there is a gaping hole where our key forwards should be. I like Miller and defended him when the knives were out a year ago but he's nowhere near good enough to carry our forward line on his own. Newton hasn't shown anything yet, Robbo isn't a KP and his leap will probably be diminished by his achilles injury and Master Bate isn't a CHF no matter how hard we hope and wish he was. I hope Casey's got a few decent tall forwards because they won't be getting much help from us. My dream draft: 1. Watts- love everything I've heard about the kid. Seems to have the fire in his belly and a good head on his shoulders. If we don't take him I'll be very disappointed. 17. Swift- could be the steal of the draft if he falls to us. Either way there should be some quality mids still available here. Speed and good disposal are the qualities we want in whoever we get here. 19. McKernan or Trengove- someone's got to slip, if it's either of those 2 we'll be getting a bargain 35. Roughead- If he's still there he'd be a fantastic pickup. I've got Monday off next week and if all this comes true I'll need it, cos I'll be partying like it's 1999 again.

Close your windows and take down your clocks
furious d replied to Straight Sets Simon's topic in Melbourne Demons
I love the Melbourne Football Club. I don't know why, it doesn't make much sense really, but that doesn't make it any less true. If you love something you accept whatever it throws at you, even mediocrity. Does,'t mean you have to like it, but you accept it regardless. I've accepted mediocrity my whole life and so have all you for the last 44 years, and if we stop now the club is dead for sure. So please all of you, what's a few more years. I've got a good feeling about 2012 -
Bell, Bode, Bruce, Frawley, Green, CJ, Wheat, Wheels and I think maybe Petterd and Jmac all spent time on a half back flank this year. Add Cheney, Grimes, McNamara? and now probably Rivers as potential back flankers and Brown , Bizzel and Ward as recently departed back flankers and you have the reason I never rated CAC. Although he was good at recruiting flankers Bell or CJ had to go anyway, CJ just made the decision easy. I don't have either of them in my starting back 6 next year and they'd be borderline for the 22 at best.
-
Cheers M2W, I'm not sure he'll slide that far either but if he does I hope we grab him.

Link to vision not working, sorry

I know there's some risk involved but the potential payoff could be enormous. It could turn out to be perfect compensation for beating the tankers Round 22 last year. The club showed last year it's prepared to take a risk with high picks. While it's too early to tell, Grimesy seems to be progressing well. I'd be all for taking our chances again if Tom Swift is still available. A 2011 midfield with McLean, Jones, Morton, Grimes and Swift has plenty of potential, if not too many runs on the board. Add Watts and Shoenmakers and we've got potential all over the ground (except maybe the ruck). It'd be a good time for Bails to prove to the world he really is a great development coach
-
I'd be more than happy with that, ecstatic in fact. But to make it our ultimate draft I'd prefer Blease over Hill. Is that being too greedy? If Roughead slips to 35 it's a clear sign the footy gods are starting to smile on us.
-
Watts at 1, lock it in. I'd like a tall and a mid at 17 and 19. I think the weagles will be looking for a mid at 18 if they get Naita at 2 or a tall if they grab Rich. The order of our picks at 17 and 19 should therefore depend on who goes at 2. It's impossible to know who'll be left but the mids I'd take are Blease, Swift, Hill, Robinson and Strauss in that order. At least one of those should slip far enough. If any of McKernan, Trengrove or Johnston slip to 17 I'd grab them straight away (esp McK &Tren) but I think it more likely our second tall will be one of Roughead, Shoenmakers or Cornelius. If McKernan and Trengrove are both gone as expected I'd be tempted to go after Roughead even though 19 could be a little high for him. I like the idea of a ruckman/forward.

I thought Bell, Dunn and Moloney were yet to sign on for next year WJ, could be wrong. I didn't throw beamer in the mix cos he's one of my faves
