Projected Best 22's 2021
I was never a fan of Harmes as a forward, I just think Viney should be at least tried forward. When we were at our best Harmes was also one of our most important players as a negating mid, didn't do the flashy stuff but I thought his influence on games was enormous. Viney also has great influence as a mid I just think for our midfield balance and potential usefulness in a second position Viney is the man to play forward. I still maintain belief that our best midfield set up is Oliver, Brayshaw, and Harmes which provides the best balance of inside grunt (Oliver), outside nous (Brayshaw), and defence (Harmes), with then Petracca, Viney, and Jackson rotating through there.

Projected Best 22's 2021
IMO one of Oliver/Brayshaw/Harmes/Viney/Petracca will have to spend the majority of their time in another position which Brayshaw and Harmes have tried and failed at. I think Viney has some really good attributes of a small forward, he's a relentless tackler and wins a lot of 1v1s, I think he'd be great at the feet of our tails. I just think out of our mids apart from Petracca he'd have the best potential to play well in a second position, would still get some midfield time, sort of like Kane Lambert. Apart from Kozzy I think Viney would be a better small forward than any other small forwards on our list, highly doubt it happens though knowing Goody, it's just what I reckon would be best for the team.

Projected Best 22's 2021
B: Jetta, May, Hibberd HB: Lever, T.Macdonald, Salem C: Langdon, Brayshaw, Tomlinson HF: Fritsch, Weideman, Petracca F: Pickett, B.Brown, Viney R: Gawn, Oliver, Harmes I: Jackson, Rivers, Melksham, Spargo Only potential change I would make is Tomlinson out, Salem to a wing, Hunt to a half back flank or if we pick up a classy half back flanker with one of our picks they could potentially step in. This is how I would set up: 3 tall forwards (Brown, Weideman, Jackson) 3 small forwards (Pickett, Viney, Spargo) 3 medium forwards (Fritsch, Petracca, Melksham) 3 full time inside mids (Oliver, Brayshaw, Harmes) Petracca to split his time 50/50 between forward and midfield, Viney to split 75/25 forward midfield, Jackson to split 50/50 forward midfield (25% ruck, 25% inside mid) Harmes to go back tagging the best mid and then getting his own pill, melksham to go back to negating the best defender and then being linkman between midfield and forwards Jetta and Hibberd to lock down on small forwards, Salem and Rivers to rebound from half back, May Lever and Tmac can form really good defence and rebound Honestly reckon if everyone is utilised in the right position we can definitely contend for top 4 and a flag next year, bring it on.

Rumour only file ...
I'd rather us try get an Essendon 3rd rounder this year and then try move up 26,31, and Essendon 3rd to the dogs first round pick. picks 26 and 31 will end up being late 30s/early 40s, that wouldn't be a great result for us.

That's where I'd love for us to go hard at Witherden, but if not I'd move Hunt back to HBF.- Rumour only file ...
Agreed, I would like to see Salem pushed up to fill the vacant wing position, Brayshaw to play as an inside mid and then cover on the wing when Langdon or Salem is off the ground. I'd have Oliver and Harmes playing predominately inside mid as well and then Petracca, Viney, and Jackson rotating between forward and inside mid.- Shaun McKernan
I think we could keep both as Mckernan has versatility to play ruck/forward and Mitch brown has versatility to play forward/back, gives us some decent back up coverage across our spine.- Trade Targets
This is spot on. Winger: I'd be happy with Phillips, if Menegola or Clark were gettable we should be going really hard. Pacy mid/Pacy small forward: I think Jack Higgins fills both and don't know why we don't seem to be going harder Ruck Insurance: I'd take McKernan for a year or two as break glass in case of emergency I'd also like to add a defensive minded small defender. Marley Williams is one I'd take who could be rookie draft or a late pick in national draft. All of those wouldn't cost much at all and would definitely be within our capabilities in terms of currency.- Mahoney's Trade Plan
I think they were keen on Isaac Smith because they knew they wouldn't have to give up anything to get him with him being an unrestricted free agent. What I don't understand is why we wouldn't be keen on Phillips to fill that position when he's not going to cost much at all or just a swap for Tmac, and he is 8 years younger than Smith.- Tom Phillips - Outside Skills and Speed
Phillips only has 1 year left on his deal so it shouldn't affect resigning Clarry too much. Phillips reportedly on about 550k next season but you'd imagine we could bring him back cheaper after that. But I agree if we don't bring in a winger I'd much rather put Salem on a wing than play baker, and maybe hunt moves back to a HBF to play Salem's spot.- WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - BEN BROWN
I would've thought this should be a simple swap for 25 which seems a big steal since that pick will become about 35-40 with all the academy and free agency picks. There was talk yesterday on trade radio about north being interested in Brayshaw. I'd maybe look at Brayshaw + 25 for Brown + 11, and then on trade 11 + Tmac for Treloar + Phillips.- MFC Highlights
- Adam Treloar
I'd imagine if we were to get Treloar we would have to shed someone on reasonable salary in order to have enough money to resign clarry. In my personal opinion there's no way you could fit Oliver, Trac, Treloar, Brayshaw, Viney, Harmes, into the same midfield so I would let go one if Treloar wanted to play for us which Brayshaw would be the one who's on decent money and would lack opportunity.- Adam Treloar
If we needed to trade Brayshaw or Harmes for Treloar I would be open to it. I would look to trade Brayshaw + Tmac for Treloar + Phillips. Collingwood save about 200-300k with that so they can resign Mihocek, Phillips apparently on 550k next year but it's the last year of his deal so you'd imagine we could get him on a cheaper contract after that and still have cash for Clarry. If we needed to throw in a future second or third to get it done I'd do it.- WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - BEN BROWN
Our current pick 25 will end up sliding to 35-40 with all the free agency picks and academy bids, I'd rather give that than next years second rounder where next years draft will be stacked with talent.- Adam Treloar
I think if we moved on someone like Brayshaw we would, which we would have to move on one of our mids to fit him into our midfield anyway. I'm gonna guess Brayshaw would be on about 500-600k and it's reported treloar is on about 800-900k, however if we got Collingwood to pay 100-200k of that, it would only be about a 100-200k difference for a significantly better player. That would still leave us with significant cap space for Clarry next year and then you add in Tmac (700-800k) and Preuss (400k) likely departing I think our salary cap will be absolutely fine.- Adam Treloar
Collingwood have really shot themselves in the foot here with this one. I'd be going to Collingwood with a trade package centering around Brayshaw. Oliver, Trac, Treloar could be a scarily good midfield.- MFC Highlights
Noted. Do you reckon it would be better with no background music at all?- WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - BEN BROWN
I also agree, I think Trac should play 50/50 midfield forward, I just think we should rotate more players through the midfield. I would have Oliver, Brayshaw, and Harmes as the mainstays, Trac 50/50 mid forward, and then Viney and even Jackson pinch hitting through there.- MFC Highlights
Hey guys, recently I've been putting together highlight videos of Melbourne players 2020 seasons, I hope you all enjoy them. If you've got any suggestions for players you'd like to see or any improvements just let me know. Here all the videos i've done so far:- WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - BEN BROWN
Agreed we should have the superiorty in the air most weeks with all of them playing, I also think Jackson is so versatile to play a variety of positions that we can make it work. Regarding tackling pressure to compliment them, I reckon we should play Viney as a forward pocket. This would allow for Oliver, Brayshaw, Harmes, Trac to fit into our midfield and I reckon he has some qualities of a good small forward. Tackles relentlessly, has tricks to win 1 v 1's, very strong and can be zippy at times, if he could add another string to his bow with kicking harder goals like snaps more consistently I reckon he'd be a great compliment to the talls up forward.- To Hell and Back
This is spot on. The content and production was great, I really hope they do it again it was a great insight to what goes on. Just the naming was terrible, I don't think any Melbourne supporter would be angry if it was just called Melbourne Football Club pre-season documentary.- WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - BEN BROWN
Providing we landed Brown I would go with: Tall Forward 1: Ben Brown Tall Forward 2: Sam Weideman Tall Forward 3/ Midfield (Ruck and Inside Mid) (50/50 split): Luke Jackson Medium Forward 1: Bayley Fritsch Medium Forward 2/ Inside Mid (50/50 split): Christian Petracca Small Forward 1: Kozzy Pickett Small Forward 2: Jack Viney Medium Forward/ Wing (50/50 split): ??? (Vandenburg? Hunt?) Small Forward/ Medium Forward: ??? (Spargo? Hunt? Melksham? Hannan?) HF: Fritsch, Weideman, Petracca F: Pickett, Brown, Viney - Rumour only file ...
