Time to go Goody?
The reason for our current plight I believe are many and varied. However the start of our demise , albeit gradual, at least until last week,(now in freefall) can be traced back to the off season after the premiership win. Whilst nothing showed up on field until around mid season of 22, the affect of winning 17 straight and the way we did it IMO lead to and arrogance and inflated ego for many players, mostly senior. I suspect they thought they were unbeatable. Winning games in 10 minute bursts, kicking multiple goals at the flick of a switch, bang, bang, bang, must have felt like walking on water. Whilst all this was happening what did Simon do? Other than not changing anything, ā contested footyā, or adapting a new style or method or showing flair at selection, I suspect he did nothing. Perhaps he turned a blind eye to negative behaviours? By all means disagree if you like. But if you do, consider this, my understanding is that senior players were doing āsportsmansā nights/shows celebrating the Premiership win around rural Victoria in late January 2022, only weeks from the start of the season. Surely those celebrations should have ceased by the end of November at the latest, probably even earlier. The start of the beginning of the End.

Media Madness
Why did he/Goodwin mention it, who knows? Maybe by making an excuse for the disappointing performance of the teams captain and driving force, by extension he is actually making an excuse for the teams performance overall. Consequently he could be covertly trying to taking some pressure off himself for the poor performance. Iām not saying it was definitely deliberate, possibly just a slip of the tongue. Regardless, the whole thing was hardly newsworthy.

2025 MRO & Tribunal
Sunday Herald Sun page 91 shows a photo of Darcy Moore shoulder charging Sam Darcy in what was referred as a āmarking contestā. Does anybody know if this has been under the spotlight? Nb. I havenāt seen the video. Ps. I think this is now No.4 of questionable incidents by Moore since KB.

POSTGAME: Rd 02 vs North Melbourne
If Goodwin is to be replaced, now is the time to do it. Not after the seasonās finished, not mid year, do it now. After just 2 games, this season is still salvageable. I just canāt see what Goodwin can do or say to turn things around after todayās horror show. A fresh voice/approach might just be the impetus the players need turn their form around. The alternative of keeping Goodwin in place and then things not improving on todays outcome would likely result in MFC finishing bottom 3 with a real chance for the wooden spoon. Trying to recover from that scenario next year (and beyond) would be near on impossible for a new coach and definitely impossible for Goodwin should he somehow remain coach next year.

Struth, where to begin? So according to you ābest forward in the last 50 yearsā equates to the forward that plays the most games? On that flawed rationale, how then can you say Fritsch is better than Lyon, Neitz, Green and Robertson, all of who played more games than Fritsch. Please clarify. PS. Jakovich 4.28 goals per game Fritsch 1.68 goals per game Jakovich not streets ahead, suburbs.

The Legacy Series | Episode 2 | Hassa Mann
Was at the match, for 57 years Iāve held the memory of Hassa kicking the winning goal by snapping over his shoulder from deep in the left hand forward pocket in heavy traffic. The video says otherwise. If only there was a replay of Queenās Birthday Round 9 1967 v South Melbourne, Hassa kicked 7 in a big win.

āWITHOUT WORRYING ABOUT THE FACTSā That being the case, surely it is unreasonable for you to criticise anybody on this site who makes an unsupported statement or even just for expressing their opinion.

Has the 2025 draw been announced? I must have missed it.

MFC 2024 BEST & FAIREST NIGHT
As an observer I think you will find he said a lot more than that amongst his numerous vitriolic posts.

Oliver Trade Rumours
This is the third post today by Jay Clark that has left me wondering, who does Jay Clark work for, Geelong FC or Clayton Oliverās management.
-
Oliver Trade Rumours
No, I totally agree. If we genuinely want him gone I think we should fight tooth and nail for the best deal until the last minute of trading. And pay zero of his salary. I also think we should be working overtime with every other club and not giving Geelong the time of day. If no suitable deal can be done, he stays. If he then plays at Casey for the whole year @ $1,000,000- + it would bring into focus player contracts and farce the really are.
-
Oliver Trade Rumours
My concern with this is, if he chooses not to get fit and firing, has more off field troubles and/or holds the club in contempt resulting in him making no effort ( even begin happy to front up weekly at Casey) would MFC still be required to PAY HIS FULL SALARY? If so, player contacts are clearly too heavily stacked in the players favour to the point of being farcical.

That might be the case but my referencing of Jay Clarkās post was to question how Oliver could out if we didnāt agree. If Geelong really want him they need to compensate us. Also, MFC should not be conned into paying a cent of his salary.

āCan Melbourne hold him to his contract if the price isnāt right?ā Bewildering. Surely heās our player until MFC say heās not or his contract is up. Or perhaps ājournalistā Jay Clark meant to ask āshouldā and not ācanā.

Oliver Trade Rumours
Too right, and why in that case should he receive all of his $1,000,000 + salary next year?
-
Oliver Trade Rumours
Many things would need to be considered and that would probably be one of the most important. Off the cuff I would say, the cap is not affected, monies saved go into the clubās coffers. Any variance to a players salary would be decided by an independent panel after the Club put its case.

I have absolutely NO idea how AFL player contracts work however if they are not very, very heavily based on PERFORMANCE, they should be. If any player underperforms because of questionable off field behaviour or bad attitude or a gripe against their club, why should they receive 100% of their pay?
