That’s OK if we are getting a good deal/ overs, if not, I think it should be taken into consideration.

Your Adelaide hypothetical :- getting picks 14 and 16. We wouldn’t be “getting them” if we said NO. GC, “who cares”. Why should we line the pockets of any competitor?

Who Will Be Our Next Coach?

The first and only timed I cried at the football. I was in my 30’s. Sitting in the car for an 1 hour waiting to exit the car park didn’t help much either.

		Training Ground?

So we’ve ‘jumped’ from the barriers at the 1800m and are now turning for home. At least we’re going the ‘Melbourne ‘ way and not the Sydney way. FWIW, worked many Saturdays ‘pencilling’ under that Stand.

Jake Melksham & Tom McDonald Sign On For 2026

I’d like to see Jake offered a coaching role (forwards) while he is still playing.

Christian Petracca and Clayton Oliver in 2026

If my memory serves me correctly, Jordie McKenzie and Simon Godfrey were “tackle monsters” and also “true heart and soulers” who played with similar endeavour and inspiration. They were also very poor kicks, similar to Jack Viney. In Todays Football being a great tackler alone is not enough, imo.

		2025 List and Contract Details

Agree DZ, I’m bullish on AWM and especially Culley. Haven’t seen much of Mentha as of yet but fingers crossed. Small nippy forward is a definite need. A very good start to the Off Season IMO.

		2025 MRO & Tribunal

I had fully intended to keep out of this but …, so against my better judgement I ask (1) Are players, supporters and wider society better off or worse off for the AFL taking their aggressive stance in their endeavour to change Societal attitudes? (2) Is it their place to do so? (3) If Rankine had used the P…… word instead of the F…… word would he have been treated more leniently?

		Farewell Judd McVee

Too right. The problem is it’s extremely difficult to blood young ruckman in the currently system without severely compromising Match day performance as well as overall list integrity. Obviously No one wants to sit an inexperienced player on the bench who will only give the preferred Ruckman a few minutes chop out each match. The alternative is to play two rucks but one needs to predominately be a Forward first ie. Gawn/Van Rooyen. No only is a good one very hard to find, this option doesn’t work long term ie. Van Rooyen will never be a No1 Ruck and meanwhile Gawn is being overtaxed. The fix is easy though (Imo) yet it will never happen. Bring in a dedicated/seperate interchange bench for Rucks ie . Gawn and Verrall, therefore Verrall gets match time (when match or scoreboard position allows) and if Gawn goes down we have a Ruckman ready to step in. Something akin to a Bull pen for Baseball pitchers.

There’s some shining light. Over the last 3 or 4 games it looks like Oliver has his appetite back. Something from the wreck, maybe.

		Simon Goodwin Sacked

No problems with celebrating but when should they be put away and focus be solely on the new season? Also, as you say, individuals come and go. With that in mind, does a premiership mean significantly more to a player because it has broken a 57 year drought? If it did it, wouldn’t it therefore suggest the players love playing for the jumper? It’s not the feeling I’ve had from this group since 2021.

		Simon Goodwin Sacked

It seems to me there are a small number on here that have more loyalty for Simon Goodwin than they have for the MFC. Maybe they have, or believe they have, a personal friendship with Simon = vested interest. To those people and all others who believe Goodwin should remain Coach till the end if 2026 I ask you this ; Should any Coach allow players to continue Premiership celebrations for 4 months after a Grand Final (a paid gig through country Vic till at least 24/1/2022) ? It not about them having a night out, it’s the fact they were still in Celebration mode. Hardly the right mindset going into a new season, especially that being a premiership defence.
