  1. My nerves are jangling. Come on girls. Big effort required.
  2. I don’t disagree with too much of what you’ve said There is a fear of tech amongst a certain section of senior citizens. I still see older people rummage around for loose change at the supermarket check-out desk. I've been cashless for a few years now. Queuing at the checkout with 2-3 items when they would be quicker to use the self service. So there is a element of human behaviour involved and a fear of the new and resistance to change. But we are lucky. We have been immersed in technology from a young age. For those whose jobs have not required it and are retired it’s a lot different. My mother in law is working class, drove taxi’s, waited tables and worked in retail. She has no grasp or aptitude for tech. She can use a mobile, send texts and the like but the ticketek process bested her. I also had to sort out her Kayo subscription. Where I disagree with you is that anyone can pick up these skills easily. The reality is that people’s skills can become obsolete at anytime and some do not have the capacity (or inclination I admit) for continued learning especially when they reach advanced years. This is just a fact of life. There are plenty who have fallen by the way side because the world went past them. I choose to acknowledge this rather than berate. As AW has pointed out the ticketek process is not simple and straight forward. It is certainly not [censored] proof.
  3. Our intensity and tackling pressure did for the Crows when we played them a few weeks ago. A repeat does is required today. We can’t let Adelaide off the chain at all. Really looking forward to the game. Win or lose these girls have been fantastic.
  4. Melks was poor last year. Pressure has never been his strong suit but the fact is he was sub par in all facets of his game. Initially i was dead against bringing him back in but i've re-considered. There is nothing like competition to adjust attitudes. He now knows that sub-par performances and he's out of the team. Maybe that will provide the spur for him to lift. If 2018 Melks re-appears we are a better team for it. Sparrow has been solid and dependable and it'll be tough on him if he's dropped but maybe it's time to give Melks a run to see if the penny has dropped. I gave Tmac no chance this year and he proved me wrong rounds 1 and 2. Maybe Melks will do the same.
  5. I have to agree with those who were disappointed with the skill levels. Goal-kicking, happy hand-balling and poor decision-making at times. The positive for me is that our skills don’t appear to be any worse than the other teams in this league The big difference is the level of heat and intensity. We haven’t had any real pressure applied to us yet. Can’t wait to see how we hold up against Richmond on anzac eve. It’ll be a huge test of our mettle.
  6. Plenty of heat in this one now. Port need to convert though.
  7. brilliant coast to coast goal from Richmond. They're looking ominous.

Even if we win the narrative will be we played Geelong at the right time, no Danger or Cameron, they are past it anyways, too slow etc.etc. And to be honest that suits me just fine. I don’t want any hype or tyre pumping. Keep the lid firmly secured please.
  9. Good for you that you can work it out so easily Praha. There are those of an older demographic less tech savvy who just can’t get the hang of it. My mother-in-law, God love her, couldn’t figure it out if her life depended on it. I’m sure our kids will have a chuckle at our expense when we reach a ripe old age but hopefully they will be a little more forgiving than your good self. Thank you AW. You’ve done a good service here.
  10. They're Australians. They are entitled to come home. I don't understand why the hotels selected to use for quarantine are in the middle of our largest cities. Go regional. We also have Christmas island which can do the job. And as for having a quarantine hotel at an international airport. the mind boggles.
  11. I thought it was a poor game last night and i'm definitely not on the Sydney bandwagon after that performance. Heeney a huge out. I rate him highly so not sorry he'll miss our game (hopefully he's back for the game after they play us). Hopefully Buddy needs to be managed and won't play us either. He man handled Francis a few times last night. He'll be a handful and a big threat. Stevie May will earn his pay packet that week for sure.
  12. As a supporter there is no better feeling that switching on the game and knowing your team will give their all. We can’t really ask for any more than that. The coaching team and senior players, Paxy, Daisy et al deserve an enormous amount of praise for creating this culture. It is a rare and wonderful thing. I’m a big fan of AFLW. No ego’s. Honest effort. No bad attitudes. And skills are improving every year. I’ve no problem paying the women more if it allows the comp to expand, extend the season and attracts more talent to the ranks. As for the game this weekend I reckon Adelaide will shade it but I know it won’t be for wont of effort if we lose.
  13. The standard of goal kicking is poor across the league no matter what the conditions. I saw a clip of Ross Lyon recently discussing this. Said the players need to take more responsibility for their technique. They need to practice more in their own time as there in not enough time during alotted training sessions to properly hone this skill. I’ve seen players out and about training at various spots around my locality over the years. Never once have they been practicing goal kicking. I’m no expert and will defer to more knowledgeable posters but I would have thought that there are fundamentals of technique that apply no matter what the circumstances which you adjust to account for whatever the conditions are on gameday.
  14. A lot of rubbish hand balling in this game
  15. First game i've seen sydney play this season. What was all the hype about?
  16. Didn’t realise Hibbo was a lock down defender. Jetta stays in. I also don’t recall Melks ever being much of a pressure player either. His strength has always been clean, penetrating delivery into our forward line which he didn’t do last year. Maybe the game has evolved and we can’t carry a player who doesn’t apply enough pressure anymore but I would have though his skillset is want is required to unpick a congested Geelong defence. My concern is his sharpness. If he’s off the pace he’s pretty much useless. I’ll leave it to the brains trust to make the call but it’s a toss of the coin between Melks and Sparrow for mine.
  17. The Bombers have won a game against the hapless saints and i'm already hearing about the great young talent they have. Hoping Sydney throttle them tonight.
  18. Most soccer leagues around the world permit as well as the EPL. Definitely all the European leagues In the UK - Rugby league, rugby union and County Cricket. It’s not done in the US other than in Ice Hockey. The IPL have recently introduced a loan system.
  19. Correct. UEFA prohibits them but most national associations permit e.g. EPL. So a parent club could face a player they have loaned to a European club in a UEFA competition but not in domestic competition. The AFL are free to set their own rules anyways
  20. A lot of posters are over thinking this? Parent club has a recall option and host club a return option. If at any point the loan is not working for either party for any reason the loan is terminated. In your example, if Jackson is injured we recall the Weid straight away. Loans happen all the time in other sports. Absolutely no reason why they can't work in AFL. As long as the arrangement is mutually beneficial to both parties.
  21. You'd have the option to recall the player. No team would be expected to strenghten a direct rival at their own expense.
  22. It'll be a term of the loan that the player won't play against their parent club. That's how it works in soccer. The loan player is too conflicted so their is a chance he won't play to potential although their was a famous case in the champions league about 20 years or so ago when Fernando Morientes was on loan to Monaco but ended up knocking his parent club, Real Madrid, out of the comp. Real were widely mocked for not inserting the clause. https://thesefootballtimes.co/2020/02/17/fernando-morientes-and-the-haunting-of-real-madrid/
  23. Great to hear BB is moving well. What of the Weid? Any sighting?
  24. We're missing the winning premierships bit (we live in hope), but yeah, things are running smoothly at the moment.
