WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - BEN BROWN
BDA replied to Dee tention's topic in Melbourne Demons
We're Melbourne. the oldest football club in the world. the foundation member. The club of the great Norm Smith. Of Barassi. No way in hell's fire are we going to Tassie or anywhere else for that matter. We just so happen to be financially secure at this moment in time as a result of the sale of the Leighoak club. We don't need AFL assistance. We're in a much better place financially and on-field compared to North. They'll in a world of pain. We badly need a home base though. -
i wouldn't be using the AA team as a basis for determining the best players. The best midfielders perhaps. May is one of the top 3 defenders. Gawn is no.2 ruck. Only dusty tops Trac. Oliver is an AA already (but and can improve with proper coaching). I'll even throw Langdon into the conversation as one of the best wingmen in the comp. I think he's underrated when you compare to someone like Brad Hill at the saints. We're got good youngsters coming through as well. I think we have a great foundation. Better coaching and a KPF and wingman added and we're in with a great shout of Top 4 next year.

We are a poorly performing outfit. Forward and midfield coaching is sub-par. Game day coaching and game plan not up to scratch. Players are not delivering in particular our much vaunted midfield unit. We are not getting the best from our midfielders. Pure and simple. Coaches and players are equally responsible imv. Clayton is hugely talented but he is not blameless. His body language has been poor at times, he’s over hand balled and his kicking has let him down. And yes, I think he has been selfish. I don’t for a second think he’ll go to Carlton this year but he might go next. He seems like the type of character who wants success and might leave if he feels it won’t happen at MFC. I have zero intel on this just my opinion. Plus we live in the age of free agency. Players will test the market. There is plenty for Clayton to work over the off season. With another solid pre-season and some proper coaching I think he can be a star of the comp. But he needs to knuckle down. The best way of course to scotch these types of rumours is to become successful. It’s about time this club got its act together, got some elite coaching talent into the club and finally deliver on promises. I’m sick to death of spending every off season listening to platitudes from the club about what they are going to do. I want to spend an off season praising them for what they did for a change. Over to you Pert.

39 in unders. The Corr pick looks the go. Failing that their future second. They’re losing players so can’t see them including in a deal. Plus we should be targeting proven players and none of Caldwell, O’Halloran fit the bill. They may become good players but I want a player for the here and now.

I think we’re a lot more attractive than Essendon in terms of potential to play finals. Issue will be coin and length of contract. With players leaving they’ll have more capacity to meet his demands and if they get desperate, which l think they will, they can offer him an extra year. Hopefully he makes his choice based on footy reasons. -
He’d be a good get but 3 years for a 32 year old is madness particularly one who relies on speed. 2 years max with perhaps a sweetner about a coaching position.

He couldn’t possibly be any worse than TMac. Swap him in and TMac out and we’re well ahead imv. -

I don’t get this argument about not playing 2 key forwards. We went alright in 2018 with Hoges and TMac playing in tandum. -

If that’s the case the club must be confident of moving TMac on. Any update there? -
How bad are the pies. 7 points to three quarter time is truly pathetic.
-
Watching the pies take a beating like this, in a final, is a beautiful thing to behold. But I wish it wasn’t Geelong doling it out. It means they’ll be fresh and confident against the Lions.
-
Pies horrible. Classic example of reversion to the mean.
-
I would seriously consider swallowing half his salary if it meant we could move him on. Essendon could take him. Hawthorn maybe. Might be worth trying to swap him for Polec.
-
Agree. Looks a natural and doesn't mind the dirty work either by the looks of it. Love the way she chased down and bowled that big ruck over.
-
Good hands as well. Looks a great prospect.
-
I really like the look of this player. Powerful, good kick and a bit leg speed. For pick 41 she looks great value.
-
She’s a big unit. Tap work and handballing look good so plenty to work with. But that kicking technique is atrocious. Some intensive coaching required there no doubt.
-
Fair points. I think the best way to deal with these incidents is in game if possible. Why can't an official in the stands review and hand out a sanction. Why not make Lynch sit on the pine for a spell, a quarter perhaps. That would penalise the player and his team during the game and advantage the team he has infringed against. It’s done in other sports so why not AFL?
-
Idiotic yes. Brutal. Spare me. I’m delighted someone is thinking of the kids. I’m no fan of Lynch but as I’ve said I don’t think he should be rubbed out. The norm, whether you agree or disagree, is that these incidents do not result in a suspension in a final. I happen to agree and so does the general AFL community. If attitudes shift and the commission decide it’s no longer acceptable to let these incidents go then so be it. Just be consistent and apply fairly to everyone but it will be a brave MRP panel that hands down that first suspension.
-
I didn’t say anything goes mate. Don’t misrepresent what I said. He didn’t take the guy’s head now did he? I don’t want to see players get rubbed out in a final for what Lynch did last night. As long as there’s consistency. And before you prattle on about Richmond getting preferential treatment I can’t recall any instance in the last 25 years where a so called smaller club has had a player rubbed out for something similar.
-
Its finals time. There’ll be no suspension nor should there be. Yes Lynch is petulant and stupid but there was no real force. If it was a dees player I doubt too many of us would be calling for a suspension. There’s no need for him to keep getting involved like this. I’m sure privately Hardwick won’t be happy with him at all. He’ll get his suspension in due course. Defenders will keep targeting him so it’s only a matter of time.
-
This notion that once TMac drops some weight everything will be hunky dory is wishful thinking imv. He has to tell himself something to give some hope and motivation over the off season. In 2018 he had Hoges beside him taking the best defender. He has limited forward craft. at best is a no.2 fwd. so is weid. They are not a good partnership. One of them needs to go and I’d much prefer it to be TMac. I’d also wonder what can of impact TMac has on the dressing room. He’s highly paid and not producing. I wouldn’t be happy as a teammate. I’m not questioning his character at all. He seems like a good egg and I feel for him as regards the injury but he needs to be traded by whichever means possible. Based on some of the decisions they are making recently, North might just be crazy enough to take him on.

This is a damp squib. Richmond haven’t had to get out of second gear. Looking forward to one of Geelong or Collingwood getting knocked out tomorrow.
