Big Cox looks switched on tonight.

Leppitsch would be a great get but I’m sure wouldn’t be cheap. Yze is highly rated and will have to be renumerated accordingly. Burgess would be on top dollar. Goodwin, Richo, Mahoney and the rest. Genuine question. How do we cut costs to fit under the cap and at the same time afford to pay all of the above?

You’re right. We are miles off. I’d also say Those teams are well drilled with everyone clear about their roles. We're not. Those teams bring consistent application and effort. We don’t. Those teams bring pressure. Real pressure. Sometimes we do. Those teams are well coached. We most certainly are not. Looks like we’ll shake up the coaching supporting cast as part of this FD review. It’ll make no difference. The fish rots from the head.

Massive score review there.

A dusty martin turnover! That never happens in finals time.

We're no where near this level.

He's painful to listen to.

I agree with this. The reality is COVID has severely hampered list management plans. The draft is a lottery, nothing happening in the state leagues and reduced caps and list sizes means we have to pretty much make do with what we’ve got. Sparrow is worth a contract but I’m not sold long term. Still has plenty to prove. Smith purely as depth is just about palatable. Petty showed plenty in the back end of 2019 but missing a full season injured is always a worry. Hopefully burgess can get him right. I think Jones is cooked playing wise but he may have some coaching ability. Stalwart of the club so worth a punt imv.

WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - BEN BROWN
BDA replied to Dee tention's topic in Melbourne Demons
There are plenty of so called experts who know jack s**t about the game despite presenting themselves as knowledgeable. I think there’s a description for it, Expert fallacy. Because someone is an “expert” their view or opinion is somehow more authoritative. Ex-players, commentators, journalists and coaches talk a fair amount of dribble. Clichés and banalities. Insulting our intelligence most of the time. Seriously, I don’t think I’ve heard Goodwin say one intelligent thing during his press conferences. Clarkson on the other hand.. There are plenty of posters on this site that know more about footy than the so called experts (there’s a fair bit of nonsense to wade through as well though) and whose opinion I respect far more. Please continue to post your considered and logical comments axis. -
McAvaney got on my nerves throughout. His hyperventilating when danger scored that goal nearly made me spew!

Geelong hanging around. they could snatch this game.

He had plenty of heart and gave his all but footy wise he was a liability. I’m delighted he’s doing well because he’s a very likeable character but moving on average players for a 2nd rounder is very good business imv. By and large we’ve been making good list management decisions. Trading Frost was not a mistake.

Maybe Clarkson has run out of ideas but Goodwin definitely has. In fact i'm not sure he's had any good ideas in 4 years. What we do know is with a quality list Clarkson can deliver. What I expect from Clarkson is man management to get the best out of the group of players we have. We don’t need a tactical genius just get the basics right, such as midfield and forward step-up. Cut out these lapses in concentration and application. I think Clarkson can do that, motivate and lead the players and bring some belief into the club as someone who has been there and done that. If he's available and excited by the prospect to coach our group then he should be number 1 on our list to replace Goodwin.

Jesse needs to get out of Perth. He made a mistake heading back there. It’s too much of a fishbowl. I suggest the club get onto his manager to discuss how to get him back to his rightful footy home, the MFC!

Crows Attempting to Poach Darren Burgess
BDA replied to YesitwasaWin4theAges's topic in Melbourne Demons
Burgess is top drawer. He’s worked for Liverpool and Arsenal and turned down offers from the US. We did very well to lure to the club but there’s no way we hold onto him for long. With soft cap constraints we can’t afford him and I wouldn’t be surprised if he takes up another overseas appointment. Hopefully we can keep him for another 12 months with a view to him setting up our long-term fitness program and mentoring his successor. I’d hate to lose him to another AFL team. -
WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - HARLEY BENNELL

Someone from the club, a friend, an ex-teammate, someone he trusts, needs to get to that hospital and try to talk some sense into him and figure out a way to get him back to his family. But if he has his mind set on a bender then I don’t know where this will finish up. -
West Coast have been at the top for a while. Their fondness for the good life doesn't appear to impact their onfield performance.

because they're drunk and high

WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - HARLEY BENNELL

I’m far from impressed with how this bloke has conducted himself. He’s shown his true colours imv. He’s fed us a bull crap story about why he left the hub. Hasn’t the decency to face the club to explain himself. We gave him an opportunity, got him fit and back on the paddock and all we have to show for it is a $50k fine (a support salary). I don’t know whether not being offered a contract led to this behaviour but its no excuse. Well done to the medical team. We have many inadequacies in the club but it looks like we’re elite in one area at least. -

If he slots the goals who cares about the run-up? -
A superb effort this year. He has shown a level of professionalism I did not think he possessed. We shouldn’t underestimate the effort and hard work required to get into the physical condition he achieved. He has improved every aspect of his game. We could not have asked for more in terms of professionalism, dedication and commitment. Christian has led by example this year. I hope the club match his level of ambition and make the changes needed this off-season to ensure the potential of our list is fully realised.

The footy Gods smiled on us when St Kilda picked McCartin rather than Petracca. Let’s not tempt fate.

Dimitar Berbatov. That’s exactly who I think of whenever someone is described as laconic. Somewhere along the line people have mistook laconic for laidback. Not sure when but its been going on for a while now and particularly by commentators in the EPL.
