Good post and agree there’s nothing linking to us taking Allen at 5/6. But if Langford and Smith are off the board and Draper is still there, if we rate Tauru and Allen as the next two best players it might make sense to grab Allen first if we think it’s the best strategy to land both. 5- Allen 6-Smiley/Draper 7- Smiley/Draper 8- Travagila 9- Tauru GWS did it last year to get two players they wanted later in the first round.
-
My take on it was we are not interest in Draper and would take Tauru before him. I assume we would take Smith if he was there and Langford was gone. I just assume Cal is off the belief that Carlton will take Smith.
-
Can’t say I followed him in his draft year but RMC seemed to think there was room for improvement in his kicking consistency and it was put down as an area he needed to improve on. Lindsay is probably rated as the best kick in this draft or at least top 5. He will also go much earlier than Houston and Gulden. He’s ball use an excellent.
-
I wonder how the club rates each player coming through each draft. Do we mark them out of a maximum score?! With a certain amount of points being available for different abilities and attributes. Say skill level, athletic ability, character and so on. I’m sure we must and we will never find out exactly but I’d love to know. Maybe a question for JT if he does the podcast again this year.
-
I expect he won’t get nearly as many right this year but I’d be pretty shocked if he gets any of the top 5 wrong. If we get Langford I’ll be stoked.
-
Going by their draft profiles neither Houstin or Gulden were thought to be great kicks at under age. Perhaps that’s why they went at 45&32 in their drafts. Lindsay's kicking is very good and will get better.

Norths list manager said they believe pick one is down to 2 at this stage. I assumed it Lalor and FOS he was talking about. At start of this thread I went for 5- Langford 9-Lindsay I’ll stick with those two and think we will match a bid late on for Andrew. I did notice Lindsay got a couple of mentions on gettable today. Cal said he’s one of a few in the mix at 9 and JT mentioned he had been very good at looking after Ricky Mentha down at Gippsland.
-
Saints list manager suggested they are happy enough with the young talks they have and mentioned they would go best available but would be pretty happy to get mids. If both Langford and Tauru are on the board at 5 and we pick Langford there’s a chance Tauru gets to 9.
-
They did an interview with Draper and he said he would be super excited to move interstate. I think he slides to Saints. Cal also said we won’t be doing any pick trades.
-
Cal has been keen to put it out there that he’s not as confident with his phantom this year. To be expected with how even it is I guess.
-
Jt just been on Gettable. Said we will go best available rather than pick for needs as we did last year. Having listened to Norths list manager as well I think Tauru will still be on the board at 5. If Langford is gone Tauru is our man I think.

On Gettable this morning
-
Cal did mention that both Richmond at 6 and Saints at 7 are a chance to pick him.
-
Gettable has just started. There may be a bit of a wait for Cals phantom.
-
I have seen it reported that Allan is very similar player to Ginbey at WC so they may not be keen to double up. Also Freo will want to hold onto future draft picks to have a crack at Chad Warner next year.
-
Id rather we take a mid at our second pick as well. But there’s definitely too much smoke around Armstrong now to deny that we have a strong interest in him. Im assuming if we pick him it would mean we see Turner and Petty as defenders ling term. If we pick him given the other options that would be available JT must think he will be a gun.

I’d prefer Langford but what would I know. Goody has always liked being a contested team first and although he has a slight frame Jagga does seem to win a lot of his own footy and is very efficient(maybe not super damaging) with it when he gets it.
-
This is a great draw. We can’t have any complaints. If we had played a more attractive brand of footy and had bigger crowds we may have got more prime time slots. Only one 5 day break against Richmond who also have a 5 day break is a big win. If we play well before the bye then we will probably get more prime time games. Does anybody know if there will be Thursday night games after the bye? We play GC after that. I’m hoping we don’t have a Thursday night game then as it will shorten our bye as we play on the Sunday before the bye.

I haven’t looked at FOS much the past while as I didn’t thing there was much chance he’d get to our pick. I did have a good look at him during the champs and wasn’t impressed. Feels like if we pick him it would be another one in the Trac and Clarry basket- hoping next years performances will be better than this years.
-
Bugger. I’m all in on Langford
-
Well we all saw that coming. One year off every 15 years or so seem fair.
-
It’s unlikely we trade I agree. We haven’t been linked to anybody further back in the draft. They may however jump in front of us if they trade for pick 8 which the Saints have put on the table. Hope not as Caruso is a very good operator and always seems to be targeting same players as us.
-
Cal’s latest form guide mentioned GWS are interested in Travagila. Very unlikely he gets to their pick so they would have to trade up if they want him.
-
I’d be keener for Trav or Allan. Not a knock on Reid but I would like someone that would compliment pick 5 a bit better. Apart from Tauru all our pick 5 prospects are likely to play forward of the ball. I’d like our pick 9 to be able to play defence. Interesting he didn’t rule out Labor being available at 5.
-
Bit of info in that for us. Unless we haven kept our cards very close to our chest the amount of players we are interested in at pick 9 is fairly small. Tauru, Travagila,Reid, Allen and Armstrong
