The 2025 AFL Draft Thread
Was into 29 last I heard.

Jason Taylor on AFL Gettable (18.11.2025)
Given the low price of picks 9&11 this year I wonder if Pickett gets past North and a few others if we put GCF1 and 37 up for grabs but want a 2026 2nd as part of the deal? Cal only has North and GWS linked to him and I think GWS will stick with Taylor even if Pickett is still there.

I wonder if we are interested in Sharp after all or if there is another player we rate in the top 8 live picks. JT clearly doesn’t see the need to play games with Essendon.

AFL Draft 2025: Phantom Drafts
Don’t mind that first trade- make our 37 bid come in one more and also means Giants aren’t picking player we want just before us.

Interesting that he had no hesitation is saying Kentfield is player on our list already that fans should keep an eye on this year. Had big wraps for him

AFL Draft 2025: Phantom Drafts
The 3 year contract length that applies to all first round picks since last year I think helps us here. Farrow looks like he could have an impact first season to which I think also helps. Hard for a young fella not to sign a contract extension that would at least double his salary.

AFL Draft 2025: Phantom Drafts
Going off Cals phantom we pick 38 will come into 33.

AFL Draft 2025: Picks 7 & 8
Wonder if Essendon meeting Pickett is to try and keep us honest. “If you trade out pick 8 so another club can grab Sharpe don’t expect to pick up Pickett with a later pick”.

AFL Draft 2025: Picks 7 & 8
Somebody supposedly IDk, had said that Richmond met with Cumming in Mildura over the weekend and told him he was one of 3 they are consisting for their 2 picks so the above may be true. Would be stoked if Taylor slipped to us.

AFL Draft 2025: Picks 7 & 8
Think this might be how it goes and it’s the worst possible outcome for us if Grlj and Sharpe slid to us and we have no interest in either. Essendon have positioned themselves well to have a good draft. I’m hoping either Taylor( very unlikely) or Farrow slide to us.

2025 AFL National Draft prospects: The next batch
Very limited highlights from him and I agree he wouldn’t be going in first round in last year’s draft. But we need a small forward and JT seems to be keener to get him in rather than Dovaston so he must rate him highly enough. Perhaps something has clicked for him mentally or he’s got into better physical shape and shown more potential than previously. We aren’t going to pick him because of his surname. Never mind use a first rounder on him because of it. His surname didn’t get him picked via draft or rookie in the previous two years so something has shifted.

Oskar Taylor
If we do trade into a third first rounder this draft I hope we consider this guy if Pickett is gone. I’m really surprised he touted to be picked higher. I think his highlights are better than most this year and seems built for modern game. He’s likened to Wilmot who JT wanted and would be perfect for us I think. Anybody with a better eye than me know what the knocks are on him? Edit- I think he will play to role Judd played this year only better.

Pickett didn’t make it into his top 40

AFL Draft 2025: Picks 7 & 8
There will def have to be a third club involved, if we slide back from 8 to 13 then we could include some of WC later picks as part of that deal( along with WC future 2nd) then add the to 37 and GC 1st. There’s probably a dozen different routes we could go to make it happen I’d say. Depends how bad we want it

AFL Draft 2025: Picks 7 & 8
Carlton may be willing to part with one or both of 9&11 depending on where the bid comes for Dean. Adelaide are reportedly interested in moving up from 16. Suns will be willing to part with 15&18 and any of their later picks as long as they get points for academy players. Lions also wanting to trade 17 for more points.

Cameron Nairn
Can run, can mark, can score, can kick. ✅✅✅✅ His highlights don’t look amazing but he certainly ticks a lot of boxes.

AFL Draft 2025: Picks 7 & 8
Think a couple of posters both on this site and big footy who seem to get a bit of info that the club was open to trading for a third first round pick. It’s been widely reported that we are interested in Pickett( he himself said he’s love to get to Melbourne). We need a small forward on our list with Kossie spend more time in the middle and Spargo gone. We have always been keen to buy now pay later and it doesn’t sound like King wants to play the long game with a rebuild. We could also get something back in next year’s draft as part of the deal. Some combination of sliding back from 8-13 with WC and trading for pick 11. It may not happen but I think there’s a strong chance.

AFL Draft 2025: Picks 7 & 8
Reading the tea leaves with the players we have been linked to and comments by the media and others plus what I think are our needs. I think by the end of the first draft night we will have picked up Farrow, Nairm AND Pickett. Will require us getting creative with pick 8,37 and/or GC first but we are the best at doing that. Demonland disclaimer- I know very little about this draft. The above comment is only my opinion.

2026 AFL National Draft prospects: The next batch
There’s a name I’ve heard very little about over the past few months. Wonder has he been injured or just a dip in form.

AFL Draft 2025: Picks 7 & 8
GWS linked with both Grlj and Pickett so there may be upside if Richmond pass on Grlj and we get another pick in the teens. Edit- add Nairm to the list of players GWS linked to. Caruso and Taylor always seem to like the same players.

Cameron Nairn
Not many but it probably all depends on what happens before us. Looks like Grlj might have things a bit. If Richmond take him then it means a player we are keen on drops. Also looks like bombers are going to take a defender- Taylor if Richmond take Grlj and Farrow if not. Which will leave us with a two of Sharp,Farrow or Cumming out of that top group and also Nairm, Pickett and Dovaston. I’m hoping we work a way to get 3 of those 6.

2025 AFL National Draft prospects: The next batch
Yeah I think in a perfect draft for us we come out with a defender, small forward and attacking mid.
-
Dyson Sharp
Would really improve our hand next year but I’d be hoping we would hold 37 in that deal. I think we want a third first round pick this year. Perhaps WC pick 13 and other picks. Ideally a trade would be done that includes the suns as a third club before their picks get traded or used up.
-
Dyson Sharp
I’m hoping he’s still in the board at our pick and we then get a decent offer to trade back and improve pick 37.
-
Lachy Dovaston
From Cals latest guide Where does he go? Melbourne has been linked to Dovaston but it looks a touch early. Carlton has also done its work but needs to decide on its plans with the two first-round picks before it is clear where Dovaston could land for it, while Adelaide and Fremantle are also possibilities deeper into the first round
