Does anyone remember the long kicking comps they used to have before grand finals? Pretty sure DB won it one year with a kick from the centre circle at the G. Longest kick I have ever seen, other than the one by Jeff Fehring. Wonder how DB would fare against another Melbourne great, Fred Fanning, who supposedly drop kicked the ball 105 metres during the 1939 grand final.

You're kidding right. The game has been played for nearly 2 centuries and there have been countless examples of "legit athletes" down through the years. A lot of footballers in the past could actually compete with the serious athletes of the day (e.g. Bluey Adams). But most of the players now wouldn't even get close to becoming an athletics champion.
