  1. Really? Name the "many ways" please. Mid 80s to mid 90s, the "product" had: Better and tougher players overall (e.g. Ablett, Carey, Williams, Dunstall, Lockett, Sumich, Modra, Harvey, Stynes, etc.) Less interchange thus more endurance Bigger crowds (per capita) Higher scores and more accurate kicking for goal Less compromised fixtures Better umpiring Less rules (and confusion) State of Origin footy If all of the above had the same exposure/money the current "product" enjoys, it would be far, far, "far superior"
  2. Hawthorn got no hope finishing above Freo now 🤬
  3. The sport of Australian football loses again to the All-For-Lawyers (AFL)
  4. https://www.afl.com.au/news/953711/-a-priority-for-us-dangerous-tackle-sanctions-in-the-right-spot- "I don't want to comment on that particular incident because it's in front of the appeals board," Dillon said. "But I think what constitutes a dangerous tackle is when arms are pinned or when there's excessive force. I'll just leave it at that." I don't want to comment but here's my opinion, says the lawyer 😂
  5. Naughty boy Clarry: https://7news.com.au/sport/afl/melbourne-demons-superstar-clayton-oliver-comes-clean-on-unwise-hospital-sneak-out-c-10990581
  6. And yet less than 800 people turned up to his public memorial service at the MCG almost 10 years ago. So sad for the best, most graceful and most loyal Demon ever
  7. 3 weeks. And as most of us know, the biggest thug of all Leigh Matthews got zero weeks for this:
  8. And remembered for being KO'ed on the wing at the G by another thug
  9. The VFL website as a whole is a joke. Within the site, you can't even navigate to the detailed ladder page (that has to be done via a search engine). Even funnier, if you search on google for the VFL fixture using your phone and then click through, you end up on the AFL fixture
  10. What about the findings against Russell Jackson, the ABC and Phil Egan? Or are they immune from publishing such one-sided defamatory material?
  11. No, it wasn't Gudnik or Gutnick. He was ousted as Club President in 2001 and up until then Olympic Park was in the hands of Athletics Victoria/Australia until Brumby, McGuire and Fildes did secret deals to obtain it for Collingwood in 2008. Ignoring his business failings, Gutnick deserves a life membership for helping Melbourne survive during the wretched merger period and pumping millions of dollars of his own money (or someone else's!) into the Club.
  12. It was actually Max King's fault. He clearly pushed Jack Buckley in the back who then fell forward into Owens, whose head was collected by Caminiti's knee. Would be good to see umpires starting to pay free kicks against star forwards and blatant cheats like King, Lynch, Hawkins, etc. but it will never happen
  13. Including that rat Powell who casually went over to pick up the ball, when Ballard was lying on the ground, to ensure that he got another kick for his stats and SuperCoach profile
  14. It died almost 20 years ago when the bump was outlawed
  15. And ironically the same guy that started this whole mess of high contact suspensions: https://www.theage.com.au/sport/afl/devolution-of-the-bump-20200717-p55cww.html
  16. At least we have been kicking goals:
  17. No such thing as "better" umpires. Even their most experienced (Rosebury, Stevic, Meredith, Chamberlain, Nicholls) made some awful calls on the weekend. Unfortunately the real problem is some of the rules are completely open to interpretation and discretion (e.g. mark and stand, protected area, holding/grappling a key forward, prior opportunity, etc.). And matters are made worse by having 4 different opinions on these rules now
  18. And don't forget first time to tribunal (e.g. Trengove, Nibbler, etc.). You need to be a marquee AFL identity and serial offender like Franklin, Tom Lynch, etc. to avoid suspension
  19. Ditterich. Twice import, once export
  20. Finally. It's incredibly annoying driving 1 hour to the game through traffic and then arriving at the car park only to find it full and then having to park 30 minutes away from the ground by foot
