  1. Never have and probably never will. What we have is now a rotated home game each June hol or now KB holiday. What we did have with "Eddies permission" about a dozen QB games from in the naughties to 2018 approx as our home game and money making opportunity and scheduled to help our bottom line. He recently asked the AFL to return to the status quo as he could see we were moving up the ladder in finance and performance and one day might represent a challenge to his Pies. Nevertheless we do owe him some gratitude for his generosity in this matter.
  2. No It won't. Port are a good side nothing more nothing less. They are under par due to injuries and three wins this year have been by 7 points or less vs Dons Saints and Swans. Meritorious no doubt as we couldn't best Scott's Mob In gather round. A rare as poor a performance as against Freo last year at the G. Comparing Port vs Pies is like playing cricket vs India and NewZesland at the moment no Matter where the game is played. Dont get me wrong Friday nights blockbuster is a great match up as I think that's about what we are suited in May. Hopefully in June after playing Port Dockers snd Blues on KB we will be cherry ripe for Pies.
  3. We were running out of gas each week in the last half so nothing different with that result. Difference this year is that our last quarters so far have been all winning ones in the whole 9 games. Looks like a keeper for This year outscoring in the last quarter! Should be plenty of good footy down to the wire hopefully.
  4. If much rather he stay down and crumb the ball. That's his role and clearly he is not good at marking spectacularly. He is really a great tease but it's too often for my liking. Otherwise I love Kossie for his amazing skills and pace.
  5. Sorry Werridee about the B. and any other words. You got me all fired up!!
  6. How can you possibly tell. You are having a "missing or if you are over 50 Werribee senior moment" Lets be honest the 2022 version of Salo beaten up, injured and tired of playing golf fit would nit replace xnunifbour fit defenders BUT LUCKILY I remember the 2021 version if that same player who was in the best 3 or 4 on the Granny. His first quarter on that day was just as good as the stars who shone through during that 7 goal 15 minute "best ever Demon footy " bang bang bang magical winning term. Would'nt it be lovely 2021 Salo any where in the 2023 team back with his magic. Not good enough! Let the famous remark of a certain Carlton Premiership winning President ring in your ear Werribee PIGS AR.E
  7. Perhaps BM but that isn't really the situation and it only needs the right decision for CS to occur. The CS is mainly fir the regard to the AFL rules and control of the game which is getting the picture of putting out bush fires and making up rules or interpretations on the run to try and appear caring on head and resultant concussion issues. What ever happened to their rule about no damage done no report!!! Oh it's now the "potential to cause damage" even when it didn't!!!! They also want to have the rule that a " reasonable player " should be able to predict danger and not contest!!! Its now almost a joke what goes in at the MRO Tribunal and Appeals Tribunal now. That's not common sense either I can certainly tell you.
  8. Sorry Dee but your assertion that Ballard should have approached his attempt at marking by turning etc. is as ludicrous as the AFL asserting that "a reasonable player" should have ...( we are talking about a free jumping and wheeling 20 yo in his sixth game ffs) who goes for the ball and nothing else. The ball in fact was a floating type of kick that ended up nearer the boundary than both players Ballard and Rooy originally realised ( another GC player No 4 was also close in the area but played an extra role only ) and that's why the contest untimately occurred. Also that footage the AFL just released (from behind the goals) in close up and real speed shows a distorted view of the incident. It looks as though Rooy just flew at Ballard and hit him squarely in the head. Now from the 3 million replays since Sat night IMO it is clear that Rooy's fist did just touch the ball and Ballard received a glancing incidental ( ie accidental) low impact but high speed touch from Rooy's left arm above the elbow. Free kick above the shoulder once he was taken off the ground. Move on and let the off field check in his health. Now we have 5 days later the revelation that Ballard us fighting fit and will be easily fit enough to fly 5 hours both ways and lead the GC defence against the hapless WC on Friday night (6 days only!!!). Contrast this with Junior Rioli getting downgraded to TWO matches by The Tribunal ( same as Rooy is facing with no resultant injury from a Football act) when concussion occurred and Ridley is missing at least ONE Match this week and Ballard is playing. Also as Gerard Whately said from Monday on that this is not a real strike in the end that caused any damage that was only apparent but not real in the end. The Appeal Tribunal are in the spotlight to clean up this AFL contrived mess and this time a NOT GUILTY verdict is reached for all the RIGHT reasons not the ridiculous call in the Cripps for Brownlow case which 17 Clubs and millions of fans regard as another AFL contrived result. Too bad the Blues couldn't even take advantage of it wasn't it? Our No 2 should be free to play this Saturday if common sense is king.
  9. Who else should you blame if it is not Goody and/or the Match Committee? Not Disco to blame completely but at times I don't think he looked as though he was completely up with our system which is sort of understandable also, I guess. Was at the game sitting up top about halfway up the stand on the outer side at the Nerang/Broadbeach Rd end( southern) end. and found it hard for some reason to pick up all our players especially in the opposite side of the ground which is IMO possibly due to so much orange in the background. I also have mixed feelings about our defence at the moment. It looks loose ( nowhere near a replica of 2021/22) and also uncertain (nervous almost) especially after the Rooy/ Ballard clash which took our main momentum away when we only had a 15 point buffer. All backs were a bunch of nervous nellies especially when Rivers panicked when he should have run the ball out and two/ three players fumbled previously and let the last two Suns goals in. Petty was sent back and it looked a lot safer. Can anyone explain why when we kick out or line up after a goal our defenders are 10/20m away from the their opponents and we still insist on kick outs to go Long all the time and not use the first kick to our advantage? However I still hold hope that Petty can get his CHF role positively with match and training but he was too slow with the ball after marking, maybe because there seems to be very little leading these days. Time for a change of Forward Coach perhaps after all this time. IMO if Harry stays forward maybe Tmac is better placed as a third defender to handle all the bigger third tall forwards ie Casboult, etc. Disco was a bit undersized but fought hard. Also when watching the replay I found that Disco did a lot more than I realised and Riv played a terrific game and possibly saved us. Maysie is for some reason ( every one says he is injured but don't say where) is not in his usual best touch but only 2 charity goals to King says he played his part even without his trademark marking and run we all love. We are still a sort of "work in progress"certainly up forward more a who are the deck chairs than where they are placed. Two pluses are that we are second on the ladder and have a high percentage at this stage. Eerily sounds like last year a bit but the experimentation for nearer perfection is alive and well and we are playing positively, have a really fit list and our last quarters ( even last Sat) have been a revelation compared to 2022. Let the team tweaking for positions and placement continue but like 2021 I hope that our best may not be revealed until the latter home and away rounds and we all know the fantastic result that year.
  10. Don't agree that we were lucky to win. GC played their heart out and yes deserved votes as those players did their absolute best in their career I would say of some of their Coaches votes recipients. However save for the first point GC NEVER lead for the rest of the game, save at least it was level at 3/4 time. But in the last quarter the Dees turned up the heat with 2.6 to 2.1 when they rose a level and their defence ( a five minute period excepted) looked with the on ballers and showed their 2021 style. Three shots for points from a unusually nervous looking Bailey Fritsch sort of helped GC stay in it when in general play Melbourne was on top. The Ballard/van Rooyen clash stopped the Demons momentum and upon resumption the Suns regained some dare and team work. Ultimately it came down to MacPherson who had an opportunity to draw the game with 40 secs to go. Alas it never was going for goal and a famous win to the Dees ensued. I have heard an opinion that this was the Suns greatest ever game but surely their previous 2014 triumph over the Pies led by Gary Ablett (whose shoulder was injured during the game) that led to unfulfilled hopes of making the Finals. Melbourne was inwardly chuffed by this hard fought win Defence coach Troy Chaplin quick to say in interview that "Rivers desperation in defence was inspiring" plus "we are bloody proud of this group, and "3 wins in 12 days was tremendous" Both teams can take huge credit for a super competitive contest and look to gain more successes up to the bye to further enhance their prospects in 2023. Great that Dees I estimate had at least a good half of the crowd in another part of the country so Sam McClure can sleep soundly this week.
  11. But the Boundary umpire was there and either wasn't asked or just mooched off about 60 metres away from the goal not taking any part. That is ridiculous when that happens snd shows how flippant the umpires get. Should be asked if there and not permitted to just disappear.
  12. Phew as I said agree to disagree ManDee.
  13. No Lewis is too good. May will be needed Petty also possibly.
  14. I don't agree with what your suggestion overall. It's just a cop out and relieves the responsibility of a decision when it gets too difficult! If it's touched it's a goal that's going to be controversial it is open for debate about 20%. Also is the compulsory check to be maintained? That's the base of the new system really. Far to much open to debate and decisions removed to just move game on as extra time on for delay used as an excuse. Also who is deciding in your "system" Goal snd field or boundary when necessary or just Goal. Far too much left for chance of about 70% correct decisions without technology. Happy now I have virtually exposed your suggestion as majorly a cop out and nonsensical response to the current reliable technology.
  15. Agree T. RDB not a dirty player but a tough and fearless player and leader. And Neville Crows was over stated also. Couldn't trust Dean as he could not lie straight in bed!!! BTW RDB Robbie and ( Clarry in 4/5 years) are our best modern ie 1960 players ever. Gawny and Trac might just join them also beote they retire.
  16. Well that's your opinion there is a need as all you want is going back to the flawed previous system. Technology gets about 85% right and is applicable about 95%. Umpires call is not frequent so let's go with the modern system. Human error is too great and that's why should be maintained and if it can be improved at a reasonable cost then lets do it. Have to agree to disagree and I like the modern method ( and I am in my 70's)
  17. Agree some of the umps are using the review and they should be able to see if it's correct or not. They are not earning their money properly. Send these users up country for a long drive and little reward and they will reform their ways or as a last resort possibly be struck off the list if incompetent.
  18. You don't understand why and when there is a need for the reviews. That's why the DRS is available to sort out the hard decisions and ensure accuracy. If you want umpires call then you will be whinging the first time it costs us a goal.
  19. NO Short memories. Don't you want to learn from last year? Agree Judd and Bowser both played their part and gave us drive and good disposal. Not sure who was on Rosas though So was Rivers ( except from his last five minute brain fade) and Hibbo.last rounds.
  20. Another "super positive" spin on one of the AFL feel good decisions this century OD. Lets be fair dinkum they haven't announced this for fun and if they can keep GC and GWS going with unlimited cash and varying results Tassie with its AFL culture will be a breeze. And the cherry on the top of the cake is the roof to keep the cold winds out off from the Derwent. I would willingly take a $100 bet with you on this OD but 4/5 years is a long time to wait for us oldies to collect!!!
  21. Doesn't effect the Swans who have a rather envious culture this century. Don't seem to lose their young colts at sll much. Even hold onto older ones for 11years!!
  22. That could change very quickly with Brad and Robbo over 4 years and it's their sons making the decision after all anyway.
  23. 2 Premierships in 65 years ( 30 plus years in the tougher AFL ) and 13 at ViC Park in the VFL would not suggest the advantage you assert David. And their Runners Up record of about twice the flags also might lull them into a false sense of luxury or the fact that they have a habit of being SECOND BEST and perform above their ability.
  24. He and Clarkson have very similar attitudes and I get the feeling that Hardwick will hang on like grim death until prodded out by the Club. Tigers are due for a reset and although they probably won't go as low as Eagles they should be very wary of how quickly things catch up once the core and heart for the contest and run in your game ( which is very inconsistent to be frank) occurs each week. There is no doubt injuries ( as with Eagles) have played their part but there is nothing like the smell of an off colour half baked former champ trying to relive their glory days. 1965 ( late) and 1966 for us were very tough years and little did we know how much tougher and longer this would continue. Tigers have a history of putting bad years consecutively ( like us) so with Peggy gone and Gale due for another bigger executive job there is a feeling that Damien might be right to look for another Club to practice his bravado. A 3/4 year rebuild is also not a pretty sight for a former champ, or the viewers and press alike.
  25. Of course he should not be an auto inclusion straight back when fit if we have learnt anything from last year. So far we have been very conscious of these lessons. I'd say two games at Casey is just right and form permitting he is a natural to return to AFL half back just before the bye. To contemplate if he doesn't return to our best 23 after the bye would only mean we are not managing our troops or that we have won all our games by a large amount and are on top of the ladder.
