From what I saw, Jones had 3 inspirational possessions just when we needed them the most- and if he could do that in every game, we'd all be happy. However it seemed to me that all the rest of his possessions were typical of his last few games - either directed to the opposition, or really of no advantage to our team. If he had other good efforts, then I missed them, and I'm sure i'll be corrected on here if that be the case. His disposal is poor, and whether its because he is under more pressure because he is slowing down, I don't know, but too often his good efforts in winning a ball are wasted. The clock is ticking unfortunately.

Wanted to go out and have a few celebration drinks on the back of a good win. Then I remembered it’s a school night. Bloody Thursday night football!

Jones to back pocket

Turns out the reports were wrong. Wasn’t 17 tackles it was 17 handballs. Not sure anyone has been promoted based on 17 handballs. But agree with your comments.

The last time a player at Casey had 17 tackles he was selected in the AFL side the next week. AVB

I have a feeling that the lack of disposal skills, by foot, of our midfield, and their lack of their two way running / defensive pressure, is a major cause of our problems all over the field. Why would one of our forwards even bother to create a lead when the likes of Jones, Brayshaw, Harmes, Viney, ANB, and to a lessor extent Oliver kick into the 50? They couldn't hit a target if they tried, and they continually bomb it in long to a pack. Then after they kick into the 50, they do not defend. As sure as [censored], the bombed kick is killed by the defense, and sling-shot out of the back line to the opposition midfielders standing by themselves.; and into the opposition forward line at break neck speed that no defender has a chance of defending. I think this is why we leak goals like a sieve. What is seen as our major strength - our mid-field - is actually a major weakness for our game plan.. They are great at getting the ball into our 50 - hence the extraordinary inside 50's we do have - but they waste it most of the time. Unless Salem, Lewis, Weiderman or Melksham had the ball in hand, I wouldn't bother to lead either. (its no wonder Hogan had the [censored]). Until our midfield can improve their kicking and defensive skills, we will continue to disappoint.

Apologies RIP if you took offence. Last night i read through umpteen pages of game day and post match comments of understandably disappointed posters - it was not a good performance. The posters I were most disappointed in were the ones that said they would tear up their memberships, or never support the team or be seen on DL again. Your initial post was the first i had read this morning of a similar nature - so i posted a smart [censored] comment. I'm lucky RIP in that I was able to be at the ground to see the MFC win the 64 premiership - not many on here have had that experience and, after showing so much promise last year, can readily understand the disappointment in our team so far this year. I've had 54 years of disappointment since then - and I'm on record as saying that I thought we would win the premiership this year - so stand in the queue when it comes to wanting success again. The one thing I have never done is give up on our team, so I'm disappointed in those that have.

I think Keilty is good but he is not good enough to play two positions at once, and i’d Rather go in with 22 men than 21. i think you left out Lockhart

Sounds delightful BBO but i'm having my own pre-game experience far away, sitting on my balcony with a cheese and salami platter and some appropriate liquid refreshments, listening to a live concert a couple of hundred meters away, featuring some oldies but goodies, including John Farnham, Darrel Braithwaite, Jon Stevens, Dragon and Thirsty Merc. And a lovely sunny day here.

Your opinion is interesting but certainly counter to my thoughts. I believe that if we had our time over again, we would certainly not hesitate to purchase Lewis - just like Brisbane would not hesitate to purchase Hodge and WC would not hesitate to purchase Mitchell again. Their on field experience and leadership has been and is priceless for inexperienced teams trying to mold a group of young players. Stating that the likes of Lewis "actually stifle the growth of others that should be leaders now" is a statement that baffles me. What potential leaders at our club has he stifled? What potential leaders "have sat back and let him lead? I would suggest that until May can become the general down back, Lewis is essential to our backline. I cannot imagine our backline, with the likes of Omac and Frost running around, being able to function cohesively without that leadership. Yes he had a shocker in the PF, but so did 21 other players, so he was not alone. Our two actual leaders also had shockers that day., so I don't get the relevance of your argument. As for making the team slower, pace alone does not make a team quick. Its running to create space, and having the ball delivered to that space quickly that is the key. A kicked ball always travels faster than a man can run - even someone like Hunt. Lewis makes space and delivers the ball exceptionally well. Surely this is something we want. He rarely kicks to a pack - as a large number of our team seem to do. As for the Lever trade, if he can get fit, I think he will prove to be an exceptional buy. I trust the leadership we have under Goody, and the purchase decisions they have made - I guess time will tell.

I don't remember what year or years it was but Jack was played down back with us with some success - particularly the first couple of games he played there. I don't believe Roos or Goodwin have anything to answer for with regards Jack.
-
After all the preceding comments, surely we have to be asking ourselves 2 key questions: 1. Is Goodwin the right guy? 2. WTF did we sack Jack Watts? Seriously though, it’s loses like yesterday’s that has prevented our membership numbers from growing substantially. 70K is a pipe dream until this type of perfomance is eliminated. You have to trust in something before you want to belong to it.

What will be a Pass for Us this Season?

I think we should be aiming for at least one better than last year - ie win a prelim final. Why should a pass mark be any less than this? -

“Not enough people have said this. It needs more.” Well at least from people with the qualications to say so. -
And this makes you happy now?

Seriously?

My best wishes to Jesse for a speedy recovery. At Melbourne he was the one player that inspired our recovery from a dismal side and the one player who first gave us supporters hope that we were on the right path to becoming a AFL force again. And now, although at another club, I couldn’t be happier than to see him become the true champion that we all aspire him to be.

Possibly the best view in the house condolences to the family. He was grand old Dee.
