Considering how little AFL games they get each year, the crowd is tiny. Last year’s one in Casey was packed. I thought North had a considerable following in Tassie. Maybe I might have to reconsider my support for a Tasmanian AFL team.

I doubt he’d touch her if the ages were reversed. Oh well, if he’d kept it in his pants he’d have stayed. Only himself to blame.

Say what you like about Waverley. Us people from the SE surburbs will defend it to the day we die. It was fantastic having such a large stadium so convienient to us. Dad used to take us a lot because it was within driving distagpce where we lived. It was a great place to watch the game and we loved going on the grounds afterwards for a kick to kick. I still think it was the best ground ever in the AFL after the MCG. I was so sad when they got rid of Waverley. It was such a great stadium and held so many memories. If the AFL had kept it, they could have threatened to move games there when the MCG cancelled AFL games for soccer. No use threatening to put them in Docklands, as it has a far lower compacity. I noticed two main opponents of it were Eddie Maguire and John Elliot. Collingbog and Carlscum men. I think they were a little worried as St Kilda and Hawthorn we’re starting to build on their membership base, particularly with new arrivals, SE suburbs being one of the fastest growing populations in Melbourne. Having said that, I don’t think it’s really suitable for a training base as Hawthorn are so well entrenched there.

Ok I promised I’d share my 2000 grand final experience: For the day I was scheduled to work. I had to beg to change my shift to night. I was told if if I didn’t come in, I would be let go. The week before, all my friends decided to go away and watch it in the country at a friends house. Because of my shift, I couldn’t go and had to stay at home. So, I had to watch it all on my own. I decided to make the best of it. I got ALL my demon merchandise from all the years and decorated the room with it (ie, Demon Ted, demon scarfs, demon flag, demon mknrybox, etc). I even slept in my old demon pyjamas, the night before. So, bought myself snacks and soft drink and got u early to have the full experience. I still had a hope that we could win, although deep down, I probably knew it wasn’t going to happen. Watching the first quarter, we were ahead a few times, but the way we were kicking. Too many contested marks while Essendon was kicking to unmarked men. I remember the commentator saying that Neal Daniher shouldn’t be too unhappy with that was we were only a few goals down. I knew that unless we changed our game drastically, we were in for a loss. At half time, I didn’t really understand how down we were until the commentator said that it would be unlikely for us to come back from this. Then I had to watch the rest of the match. I sat through it through the bitter end, even watching Sheedy’s pathetic suck-up speech at the end. It really hurt because I know it would have meant so much more to us then it ever would have to Bomber fans. I mean they last won one in 1993, a 7 year wait? Boo hoo. Then I switched off and had to get ready for work. So, I went to work miserable and hardly said a word to anyone. It’s not that I expected us to win, but I thought we could have done a lot better than that. Especially after we’d almost beaten them in the year. I was fortunate not to have to deal with customers that night. I got home after midnight. I got changed and got out my old “Grand finals of the 1960’s” video. I watched the footage from 1960 and 1964. Then I thought to myself ‘this is still the closest thing we have to a premiership video.’ I sadly went to bed and I don’t think I could talk about it for a very long time afterwards. I’m glad I got to experience a grand final as an adult. But I just wish the commentators hadn’t been so “Melbourne don’t have a hope”. I didn’t really notice any of the sympathies in the media for the underdogs like there was in 2016 and 2017. I just hope that next time we wualify, at least they believe they had a hope as I did.

Why would it need female and male lockers? The teams play at separate times. Whats wrong with building a gym at Casey fields (Casey arace gym is sh.t) and just staying at once place. Seems frustrating as Casey and AAMI Park are so far away from each other.

I noticed someone someone put the halftime show on YouTube. I haven’t seen it since 1996 when I watched the old “The one day 1988 gf” video. It brings back memories. My cousin Roxanne was one of the girls out there, although I can’t see her in the vid. I thought some people might want to see it again. It was one of the few highlights of an otherwise forgettable day. 1988 Grand Final  half time entertainment

Ok, I didn’t want to admit this, but as a bet against losing to the Saints a few years ago, I had to walk into the men’s toilets. Was promptly told to “f... off”, which was fair enough. Apologised and got out immediantly. Dont think of me as a pervert. It was only for a bet and I was pretty drunk. Would NEVER do it again. If anyone was there, I’m SO sorry.

That fine and it’s your opinion. Personally I’d rather more enthusiasm. Especially after the past few ones were so inspiring to me. Lol if the scarf means so little to you, I suggest the 25% discount ?

Yeah but why even bother. Especially after I had to contact them to renew. Signed up for annual plan and it only went through once in 2017. Waited and waited last year, nothing, had to call and renew over the phone.

Yes but it’s disapointing after the encouraging letters we got in previous years. 2016 was from Paul Roos. Just a lazy effort. Like they have no faith in themselves already. Don’t put the 2018 membership on my car. Can’t bear the thought of losing it to rain and sun, put in a scrapbook instead.

Shag means root, I assume. Lol probably not really on my mind at that age. I was more excited about going to see world expo at that time. Dad set up the tv in his garage. Bought lollies and soft drinks and we all sat around. Had trouble hearing when the rain started, but it didn’t last long. Hard to keep interest in half time. We switched to the Olympics each quarter break. Think I even went outside to jump on the trampoline at half time ads, but saw the impressive halftime show (the highlight of the day for me). Dad made us watch it to the end. Soon after it was over, he switched the tv off. He reminded us that making a grand final is no mean feat and we should be glad we got to see ourselves in one. Pretty miserable day. I ending up sleeping at a friends house. I start to appreciate what he said to me that day. In 2000, I appreciated it a lot more as an adult. While I’m still disapointed I haven’t seen a premiership, I’m glad to see us at least get there on the big day twice. I’ll share my 2000 gf memories some other day. To make it up to us, he took us to the 1989 preseason grand final. Fantastic night.

Anyone a bit disapointed with the membership package? The letter is just like “hey thanks for joining and supporting our team. If you need further help, please call this number.” Talk about lack of enthusiasm. I could have typed that myself. It took 3 weeks to send this?

At lot of things can be taken from the 1988 grand final, that a lot of people forget... That newscaster flipping the coin saying who would win and it was Melbourne; Noel Watson’s rendition of ‘Waltzing Matldah’; for the first few minutes, it was actually exciting; the big brawl; we actually did lead for one point briefly in the first quarter; that Hawthorn player breaking his wrist; the torrid rain; after the second quarter, we got the first goal and it seemed like it was back within reach; the halftime bicentennial celebration entertainment were phenomenal; the third quarter was by far our best, only losing by 7 points; the coaching staff, climbing out of the window before the game ended; we were shocking with kicking 6.26. Who knows, if they had been goals, it could have supurred us into a winning attitude; Robbie Flowers face, when he had to present the Hawks winning medals; yet he did it with dignity and grace. I’m sad in our history of Melbourne fc dvd, after 1987, they cut immediantly to the 1988 grand final. The journey there was phenomenal. Beating Collingwood in a final. The one against a west Coast. The preliminary final was one of the best days ever. Sadly 1988 seems to get lost when compared to 1987. They do all the build us and grand final preparations on the DVD for our gf against Essendon in 2000. It’s not like we did a hell of a lot better in that gf.

Gosh that ground was horrible. The toilets were disgusting. I always wanted to go home and dive into a tub of disinfectant. They were such sore losers there. No one had the right to barrack for any team except theirs. So glad they lost the last game there. I remember the media and To y Shaw making a big deal about it. Suffer Collingbog.

My brothers have done similar things to that. I threatened never to go with them again if they started another fight. Thankfully they thought of me and matured. Now I love going with them. I dunno if this is crazy, but I have saved ever football record from every games I’ve been to since 1994. I keep them in a box in my spare room. Also, copies from the now defunct “Football” and “Demon” magazines.

A few years back, I was so excited to meet Robert Flower because I hadn’t before. There were a few guys crowding around him and I was the only female. I patiently waited my turn. When it was my turn, it was time for him to leave. I was upset, but then he suddenly just turned to me and said, “hello.” On impulse, I kissed him on the cheek. He left and that was the last time I ever saw him.
