  1. It was financial reasons too. Also it was easier to get to games. thought I was “ignored”
  2. Love him, but can’t we have the 1989 logo on retro as well?
  3. Dad, is that you posting under another name?? ?
  4. Not being a mother, my nieces and nephews are the closest I’ll get. I’ve helped my brothers steer them towards Demons. I take them to games when they can’t. I buy them Demons merch. I reiterate what our father told us. Our mother seems to have got one niece stuck on Tigers. This will not do. She wants her tigers but never takes her to games. We’ll see how she goes when she’s the only one who goes to games where her team doesn’t play. The last thing tigers needs are more fans. Like my brothers said to their kids: “support Demons or find somewhere else to live.”
  5. Gosh the attitude of fairwater and success chasers disgusts me. “Make the finals, then I’ll renew”. Glad most people aren’t like that. It’s not only about winning all the time. Sometimes you just have to go on a cold muddy day, against a top team, knowing full well you’re going to lose. Why? To support your team. Not just support them if they’re successful. If that’s the case, you may as well jump ship and find a team that’s likely to win the premiership if that’s all that football means to you. I was there in the 80’s. I know pain.
  6. Forgot to add my favourite Demon moment. 1998 Qualifying final against Adelaide. Me, Dad and my brothers went. After 1996 (not knowing if we’d still exist) and the heartbreak of 1997’s wooden spoon, I started wondering if we’d ever see finals in my lifetime. Even though everyone was saying we had no hope at beating them, we all went not caring what the odds were, just grateful to see them play in a final. What a day! We absolutely killed them! Such a great game. And we were all, there together to share it. Still the best game I’ve ver been to. I’m really hoping that if we can make it, we can all go together again.
  7. I mean clash jerseys is a basketball/soccer thing. Everyone was fine for over 100 years, why are they having so much problems now?
  8. Lol I hate soccer. So, although I liked it at the time, I agree it had to go. Even if the soccer club did approve it. I still don’t think our “retro” gear should be restricted to 1988 though.
  9. Of course. I do care what we wear. I hate the white top too. I can see how those who are apathetic about what we wear as long as we win probably wouldn’t care if we had a hawk on it, if you know what I mean ?
  10. That’s definently a rip-off. Ugh, why would we want to rip off a soccer logo. Yuck
  11. Understand. No offence, but I am assuming you are older than me? I’m an 80’s girl so I was too young to remember the change happening. So, growing up it didn’t bother me. I had the wollen jumper they sell now (over $200!? Get serious) except it had no demon logo and was royal blue. Still take my royal blue VFL scarf to all home games. So it doesn’t bother me, but I can see why others don’t like it. Don’t get me wrong, I’d never want to go back to it, navy all the way. My point is if we were forced to wear a clash jumper (heaven forbid) in the grand final, at least it would be a jumper that was once official, not like the travesty’s of St Kilda’s And Richmond’s.
  12. It said who knows how many games he’ll play. What else could he mean?
  13. Cassie here. Lifelong Demon supporter. Inherited it from Dad who was a fan in the 1950’s. Yup he got the premierships and I got the crumbs. Don’t worry, my older and younger brother are stuck too. Not one of those defeatist supporters and refuses to let the self-deprecative humour dominate. We must not let ourselves accept ridicule and do it ourselves. Never accept merging or relocation. There is more about following a football team than just premierships. Also, I don’t believe in this so called “Norm Smith curse.” Never heard anything about it until some idiot on Wikipedia put it on there as a poor excuse for poor performances and the public just accepted it as fact. Try to go to games when I can. Have Foxtel purely so I don’t miss a game. Recently became a member again in 2016 because I can see that our team is really trying now. Been aware of this site for a while, but had to post to share my opinions on things. I hope to do a lot more of this in the future. Look forward to meeting all of you. Any demon supporter is a friend of mine!
  14. As long as were both in agreement that the logo doesn’t resemble that soccer logo. I liked it but if it IS coped from some soccer club, I’d rather not have it. I’d like to keep soccer as far away from football as possible. I’d just like to see the 1989-1994 Logo make an appearance on some retro gear. I’m not suggesting we go back to it. I mean the black and white got 1977-1988, bald demon got (two incarnations but the same thing) 1995-2007. Poor 1989 logo got a mere 6 years. What was so bad with the 2008 logo that it got the boot so quick? If the soccer rumour is true, we know why it got booted. And that brings us to our current logo.
  15. I’m AGREEING with you Mr Malaise
  16. That doesn’t make any sense. There’s no court in the world that would rule in favour of Barcelona if they tried to take us to court over it. It’s merely a shield and that’s the only resemblance to is it was that it’s a shield and our pre-1995 ones were shields
  17. I love the fact our clash one is only our old retro 80’s one. Being an 80’s gal, I grew up with it, so it’s not too hard to watch them in this. Frankly, I’m syrprised the AFL let us get away with it. They never seem happy unless it looks completely different from their normal one (of course Collingbog are extempt to this rule). Of course it’s navy blue all the way for me, but if we had to wear it for the grand final, I wouldn’t be too fussed. I just hope they agree to keep it like this and never change, here’s hoping.
  18. No, that can’t be right. I mean our logos were in a sheid. Again, I hate soccer, so I can’t say. I just heard that’s why
  19. Wasn’t it gotten rid of because it resembled some soccer logo (not being a soccer fan, I don’t know). I’m really interested who else would love to see the 1989-1994 logo appear on retro gear. I’m not suggesting that it’s better than any other. I think it’s FANTASTIC they’ve bought the black and white demon for nostalgia purposes. I do think though, since they’re doing that, why not some other old logos? I do think bald demon and the one from 2008 are a bit too recent to be concidered retro. I like the 2008 but to me it brings up memories of wooden spoons, not that it seems the logos fault by any means.
  20. But he used it in reference to how many games he would play. He never missed a game for being a drama queen
  21. Sorry to disagree, but that was the worst we ever had. Bald, unshaven, emotionless Demon. We had that one FAR too long, it was beginning to be like Collingbog never changing their boring logo. My brothers both disagree, but I never liked that one. I liked the “cheeky” Demon pictured below, even if it was never part of our emblem. My nephew has it on his jumper.
  22. My younger brother had this as a mobile in his room
  23. Is entry free entry? My niece has dancing, so I might take her after
  24. I like how they’ve resuscitated the black and white Demon from the 80’s on retro gear as I grew up with it. I would like to also see the Demon logo from 1989-1994 on some retro stuff they release this year. That was a superb logo and I don’t think we gave it enough chance. My brother had a flag of it and it was amazing flying it at games. I was never a fan of the ‘clean shaven’ demon logo from 1996-2007 and frankly I think we held on to it too long. The next was was ok, but not given a chance and soon discarded. What does everyone else think?
  25. Yes of course that’s how he sold it to us. He would do anything to sell it. Even as young as I was there, I thought we gave too much too Hawthorn. The logo, letting it cover most of our jumper. Seriously, you can’t believe everything he says in “Urge to merge”. I know there are two sides of the story, but after reading it, you’d think he was a flawless saint and Gutnik was the devil incarnate. Again, you want a takeover, this is a takeover, we were clearly merging. Hawthorn actually got a pretty good deal:
