Forecast for Fri 25th Sept. Max 15 degrees, Rain 3 to 15 mm. High (70%) chance of showers. Lucky the Grand Final Parade won’t be held on that date. Or is it luck? I’ve been led to believe it’s another example of the AFL’s brilliant long term strategic thinking. Very early this year they sensed that the Grand Final Parade was highly likely to get rained upon. So they organised a feast, to be held in an otherwise obscure town in China, featuring a main course of braised bat on a bed of bat****, well knowing the outcome. There are certain things they didn’t anticipate, like the devastating financial losses they would subsequently incur etc etc, but at least their Parade ain’t bein’ rained on. How might we know all this is true? I’ll see if I can verify with Gary Ablett snr.

As per Wiki - Jacques Lisfranc de St. Martin was a pioneering French surgeon and gynecologist. He pioneered a number of operations including removal of the rectum..... Somehow I feel this might be a procedure intricately linked with the fate of many Melbourne supporters, possibly as early as tomorrrow. The only solution, a new one must be torn. Enter Razor Ray Chamberlain.

From SEN article, ‘North Melbourne and West Coast have opened talks about relocating their Round 18 game from Queensland to Perth. It's a move that is sure to anger other finals-bound clubs.’ Obviously promises to be a bigger percentage booster for WC than they’d otherwise expect, and a bigger percentage loser for North. (Even though it’s not a true home game that North will be selling.) So if North’s percentage takes a bigger hit, it will possibly compromise how clubs finish at the bottom of the ladder. If North happen to gain another win by round 18, compared to Sydney and Hawthorn, then draft picks 2-4 will be decided by percentage. If only selling ‘home’ games to an interstate club was an option for MFC in their tanking years. Doesn’t seem to worry Garry Lyon. “There’s no fairness in what’s going on at the moment. I don’t mind it.” So, we should just accept this competition is entitled to further disregard the pretence of integrity? Who’d have thought.

Agree, and furthermore, Richmond’s tall forward was Jack Riewoldt, a better all-round footballer than Tom Mac, and in much better form back then than the form TMac is currently in. Also, Riewoldt was supplemented by some strong-bodied medium sized forwards, such as Caddy and Townsend, unlike Fritsch, who gets pushed out of the contest too easily and isn’t suited to being a key target. Then of course the Richmond small forwards were all highly skilled, apart from Castagna, with a midfield that hit targets. Viney and Oliver are clearly liabilities by foot. They need to be removed from the midfield for now. If they can’t improve their kicking, trade them. Oliver 8th worst kick in comp!! Who are the 7 worst? Must all be diabolical. Presumably defenders, but could include either Viney or Ed Langdon. Where does Nick R get such stats from? TMac/Brown to full forward. Weed to CHF. Salem to midfield. Simon Goodwin to Siberia.

JKH been good in close, played well so far apart from that one bad turn over. If you want to write him off for a mistake like that send most of this team on their way as well.

I've recently rediscovered Stone’s Green Ginger. Does a fine job at clearing the throat etc. In my hitching days got picked up in remote western Victoria and had to clear a space for my feet amongst the SGG empties carpeting the floor. Fortunately it turned out the driver had become immune to the 13.9%.

Hear hear. It will be known as the era of The Saltimate.

Such a person exists? I barrack for MFC and BHA, so …. the existence of such a complete and utter loser is entirely possible. The universe is a wondrous place.

Even the concrete has a hard time surviving up there. Concrete cancer. Corruption rules. Could future sea level rise be the ultimate cleanser and also force the AFL’s hand? Hopefully we don’t have to wait that long.

Reminds me of the 2007 Grand Final party I went to. Nearly everyone had lost interest after half time and retired to the rear deck. Sometime in the last quarter they were surprised when one of the few still watching the TV let out a massive joyous holler. I was celebrating. Port had just acquired the biggest losing grand final margin of all time. ’88 could sink a little further into the depths of history.

I hate to think where.

Agree with you about the Bombers, but the Pies are right up there in the good lovin' the umps dish out. Not many teams go to Perth and end up plus 3 for frees. Both Ess and Coll are very much part of the AFL's agenda.

When is the acid going to be put on Melbourne’s woeful season
napster replied to fired up's topic in Melbourne Demons
At a bar the other night and they played Tom Petty’s Freefallin’, Very apt for the year we’ve had. Maybe could play that song as Melbourne run onto the ground. Was a good club, back in the heyday Loved winning, and the cups with it too Then Barassi, took off to the Bluebags A curse set in, and then we were screwed And it’s a long day, sittin at the footy There’s a freeway, runnin’ through the backs And I’m a sad boy, for ever believin’ Those bad boys, keep breakin’ our hearts And we’re free, free fallin’ Yeah we’re free, free fallin’ -
Casey Demons v Northern Blues - Round 14
napster replied to KC from Casey's topic in Melbourne Demons
Only watched the second half, thanks to Dee Zephyr’s son, but Spargo was really poor. Hard to believe he’s regressed so far from the positive signs of last year. At best it’s second year blues but it seems to be worse than that. If we still had a Development League, that’s where he’d be heading. It looks like he’ll get another year to prove himself regardless of his form this year. I thought the standard contract for a new draftee was 2 years, but according to Footywire he’s not out of contract until 2020. Was his contract extended by a year? Is it another case of premature extension? -
Yet another blunder from the selection committee, it’s just about a weekly event. How does JKH not get a gig after his game last weekend? Did anyone outside of the selection committee see a particular reason amongst his 23 disposals and three goals that would be the justification for denying him promotion? Whatever that reason is, it seems the Casey coach didn’t pick up on it. “Kennedy Harris was just so clean in difficult conditions… so clean with the ball, and his finishing was outstanding.” Yeah no, can’t have someone like that in the seniors. Jeez, he might show some of them up.

A number of consolations for the Pie supporters, not that I should trying to comfort them, but… 1) Round 16 2017, Richmond totally embarrassed by the Saints, kicked up the backside all the way to a flag. 2) Despite losing nearly every other stat against the Roos last night, they win the free kick count 27 to 11! The umps have made it clear how much they love Collingwood this year, and no matter what happens, the Pies can always count on them. The umps took the Bulldogs to a flag in 2016, they’ll do the same for the Pies this year. (And if it wasn’t for that disgraceful display by the BHF and his mates in the Thursday night game, GWS would now be second, Collingwood third).

Casey Demons v Box Hill Hawks - Round 13
napster replied to KC from Casey's topic in Melbourne Demons
I think JKH is a much better option than Hannan, ANB, Garlett and Spargo. Those players get numerous chances to play rubbish games for consecutive weeks before the penny finally drops with our selectors and they drop them. JKH can have a run of games where he contributes and then has one game where he’s quiet, next week he’s dropped. He’s got good evasive skills in close, good speed, finds space, and generally has good disposal. Given a fair go to build his confidence, I think he’d add an important element to what we miss so badly, providing outside options and speed, whilst at the same time able to do well on the inside. Being able to handle wet conditions is a good indicator as well. If the club let him go I think he’ll establish himself somewhere else. -
The BHF was in full flight

Box Hill Hawks v Casey Demons - VFL Round 1
napster replied to KC from Casey's topic in Melbourne Demons
Agree with most of dazzledavey36 player summary. I think Jordon showed a bit. Didn’t do a lot but what he did was good, good kick, some important touches and a really gutsy going back with the flight into oncoming traffic. Petty had a horror second quarter. Started when his team mate tried to kick it clear and the ball slammed into his face for that clanger-falcon turnover goal. I know he had very little time to react but there didn’t seem to be any reflex reaction or awareness of the situation. Then I suspect the impact might have concussed or disoriented him to some degree, because it went rapidly downhill from there. A smothered kick in the goal square which almost led to another goal. Then badly misjudged flight of the ball in the air to give opponent an easy mark. A couple of mis-kicks. And he looked slow. If not a mild concussion, I just hope it was ‘one of those days’, given the positive reports on his previous performances. Hore only brought on in second quarter so maybe could be playing Thursday but I hope not, loose too many times, fumbles, too many long bombs to no one. As an indication of how much we have deteriorated, Mitch White looked like he should be comfortably back on our list. Whilst watching it occurred that the Box Hill coach would be a good addition to the MFC coaching staff, because he obviously knows and implements Clarko’s style. Looked it up - Chris Newman - VFL premiership in 2018 and formerly served as an assistant coach at Hawthorn. He has a classic pedigree for a successful coach - the medium sized defender who made the most of his talents. -
Hard to believe that just two weeks ago I woke with some hope in my heart. Although I did have some trepidation. That pre-season talk of how finishing fourth wouldn’t be good enough this year was rather unsettling, whiffs of the classic MFC trait of getting ahead of themselves. Maybe what they were meaning to say was that finishing fourth wasn’t good enough this year when it comes to the end of season draft, bottom four would far better. If that was what they meant, so far every post has been a ‘winner’.

Salem - lone class act Weeds - not a ruckman Spargo- not forward target Viney - why selected? Preuss - why not selected? ANB - blew up early Hibberd- shanky left foot Hore - better second half Frost - frequent cognitive dysfunction Petracca -slow muscle man. Jones - retirement looming MFC - recruit outside run

Match Preview and Team Selection - Round 22
napster replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
Spargo, with his weak kicking very lucky to stay in. 10 disposals at 60% efficiency, so 6 effective disposals. JKH 14 disposals at 100% efficiency so 14 effective disposals, a big difference. He did some good things, can provide a good link, and was a long way from our worst (see ANB and or Garlett). I think he’s mostly done his bit since he came back in. He seems to be the selector’s whipping boy, given little leeway compared to others like Hannan and Garlett who until recently had to play a whole string of poor games before they got the chop. For a change, Garlett’s game v Sydney was so bad that in itself it brought about his omission. Of JKH and Spargo, Spargo should have been given a rest, but I’d prefer either of them to Hannan. I think Hannan’s busy running style creates an impression that he’s fast, but then see the foot race with Lynden Dunne on Queen’s Birthday. Regarding tackling pressure, the last game the three of them played together was v the Dogs, Spargo 7 tackles, JKH 8, Hannan zero.
