  1. Ecstatic, but it was such an extraordinary turn-around, I think I was too much in a state of shock and/or disbelief to cry, even though I always thought I would when I previously dreamed of this day. For me the emotion hit when I saw things like Kozzie trying to put his medal on Neville Jetta but Nev didn’t let him, ‘it’s yours’ he seemed to say. That Nev and Nathan Jones had got to that point in their careers where they missed out on playing. When Majak Daw was hugged in the rooms and the thought of all he’s been through. The thought of Michael Hibberd’s brother, the memory of Troy Broadbridge. Thankyou so much to all of the players, past and present, and staff who have made this possible.
  2. I know at least five. A true daughter of the West, brought up in Sunshine, and her father an electrician. A teacher. A psychiatrist. A barrister. They are all good people, but in some cases I wonder if there’s an element of virtue signalling. At least you know that they’re not one of those tossers who support a traditionally strong team because they want to be a ‘winner’.
  3. Imagine if they played a team similar to the one we last played, such as this team of one-hit wonders. They’ve had their day in the sun, but they get smashed in the long run. B: Tal Bachman. The Cardigans. Pauline Pantsdown. HB: Hoobastank. Bruce Channel. Blind Melon. C: Kisschasy. Haddaway. The Surfaris. HF: Pseudo Echo. Bow Wow Wow. Faster Pussycat. F: House of Pain. Chumbawamba. Skee-Lo. R: The Buggles. Duck Sauce. Spose. IC: Truth Hurts. Ratcat. Daniel Powter. Question Mark and the Mysterians. Medi Sub: Rusted Root. Emergencies : The Virus. Sporty Thievz. Deadstar. Brainstrust: Fiction Factory.
  4. To start the day - Ministry, Jesus Built My Hotrod. I’m hoping - Sticky Fingers, Land of Pleasure.
  5. Gang of Youths Magnolia. (Yeah, I'm drunk but I'm ready to kick some f**cat [censored]). Also, their latest release includes a cover of the Elbow song ‘asleep in the back’, so I’ve been listening to Elbow- how did it take so long for me to find them? Build a rocket boys. The National - Vanderlyle Crybaby Geeks, just because it’s been my obsession recently. Not really relevant to our current situation, hopefully a lot of those lines remain so after Friday night.
  6. It's been a long time since I rock-and-rolled It's been a long time since I did the Stroll Umps, let me get it back, let me get it back, let me get it back mm-baby, where I come from It's been a long time, been a long time Been a long lonely, lonely, lonely, Flag and Covid time
  7. Speaking of Led Zeppelin, it takes me to "Rock And Roll”. It certainly has been a long time.
  8. The holding the ball free against Brisbane right before 3QT was a Stevic decision, it was a really poor one. I think he's over-rated, helped by the non-stop promotion he gets from the commentators. Actually thought Ump 22 had a pretty good game overall. As to the freekick differential ladder, of the remaining 4 teams, we are the only team in negative territory. Prepare to be shafted.
  9. You're asking a lot from the propaganda machine
  10. Ump No 1 was relentless in awarding frees to Geelong. God help us if he plays for them again next week
  11. He's 19 years old, 20 in September, but Melbourne apparently don't think he should decide where he lives? Is this just a beat-up?
  12. According to the Fox article ‘..coach Simon Goodwin, who’s contracted until the end of 20222…’ And I thought Pert overdid it with the current extension. Is there any chance of a flag sometime in that next 18,201 years? Or that Goody might finally develop a plan B along the way?
  13. A good deal for MFC. I expected a current/future fourth rounder. The Bummers traded a future fourth-round pick for ‘two metre Peter’. I can’t see how Hannan is worth more than Wright.
  14. The 2020 draft is supposedly significantly compromised by father son and academy picks etc, as we heard from Josh M when he traded away our 2020 first round pick plus 2019 picks 26 and 50 for North’s 2019 first rounder. Back then he downplayed the value of the 2020 draft pick. We’ve done this trade to move up 10 places this year, but will very likely drop back more than 10 places next year. Just say the teams happen to finish in the same positions in 2021 as they did this year, 4th and 9th, we drop back 23 picks in 2021 - ie swapping pick 46 for pick 69. We’d have to finish 8 places higher than the Lions in 2021 in order to drop back by just the 10 pick positions we’ve improved by this year. If the 2021 draft is less compromised than this one then we’d still be behind. And if we do worse in 2021 and Lions do better than 4th, a very big pick loss looms. I don’t understand the value of this trade, unless it does have something to do with what North are asking for re Ben Brown.
  15. Yesterday, the last 3 teams left in the comp were all members of the cat family. Essendon, currently undergoing a crisis of culture, have decided to return to their true culture plus embrace that winning feline feeling, as the Essendon Cheetahs. Make Great Drugs Again.
  16. Geelong will definitely go in as the undercats.
  17. Yes, so although the lack of crowd influence might explain the WC losing some of their natural free kick advantage this year, we see the Pies still doing very well. Despite the decreased threat (at least on match day) of being bitten by an angry rabid Pie fan (albeit a largely toothless bite), higher influences on the umpires such as referred to by Clintosaurus continue to play a dominant role. As for North doing so well despite being such a rubbish team, maybe the pattern of the jumper sets off an automatic reflex in the umpire’s, and they pay the free kick, before realising that the blue isn’t black.
  18. We won the free kick count versus Cokers in the first round, a freak of nature. I doubt our luck would have held if we had made it to the finals. As this table shows, there’s no team more likely to enjoy the umpire’s good favours than their pet Pies, so in this regard there should be at least a level playing field for their final.
  19. Walters a huge out, but hopefully the forecast dry conditions suit the Freo marking talls, come on Hoges. As for Dogs tall forwards, Josh Bruce is very hit or miss, which can put too much pressure on Naughton. The Bulldogs midfield is their strength, but Freo’s is running pretty hot lately and can match them. As we are painfully aware, Freo has had recent success on this ground. I’m a bit surprised by Freo odds, 3.25, I’d have thought 2.4 or even less. But then, I’m not a professional. My natural pessimism over-rides all of the above arguments, Dogs to win.
  20. Forecast for Fri 25th Sept. Max 15 degrees, Rain 3 to 15 mm. High (70%) chance of showers. Lucky the Grand Final Parade won’t be held on that date. Or is it luck? I’ve been led to believe it’s another example of the AFL’s brilliant long term strategic thinking. Very early this year they sensed that the Grand Final Parade was highly likely to get rained upon. So they organised a feast, to be held in an otherwise obscure town in China, featuring a main course of braised bat on a bed of bat****, well knowing the outcome. There are certain things they didn’t anticipate, like the devastating financial losses they would subsequently incur etc etc, but at least their Parade ain’t bein’ rained on. How might we know all this is true? I’ll see if I can verify with Gary Ablett snr.
  21. As per Wiki - Jacques Lisfranc de St. Martin was a pioneering French surgeon and gynecologist. He pioneered a number of operations including removal of the rectum..... Somehow I feel this might be a procedure intricately linked with the fate of many Melbourne supporters, possibly as early as tomorrrow. The only solution, a new one must be torn. Enter Razor Ray Chamberlain.
  22. From SEN article, ‘North Melbourne and West Coast have opened talks about relocating their Round 18 game from Queensland to Perth. It's a move that is sure to anger other finals-bound clubs.’ Obviously promises to be a bigger percentage booster for WC than they’d otherwise expect, and a bigger percentage loser for North. (Even though it’s not a true home game that North will be selling.) So if North’s percentage takes a bigger hit, it will possibly compromise how clubs finish at the bottom of the ladder. If North happen to gain another win by round 18, compared to Sydney and Hawthorn, then draft picks 2-4 will be decided by percentage. If only selling ‘home’ games to an interstate club was an option for MFC in their tanking years. Doesn’t seem to worry Garry Lyon. “There’s no fairness in what’s going on at the moment. I don’t mind it.” So, we should just accept this competition is entitled to further disregard the pretence of integrity? Who’d have thought.
