  1. Weid has to impact when he gets it, because he doesn’t get it often!
  2. I really enjoy your analysis and you have really added to the terrific podcast! Hoping you are spot on tonight, slightly concerned about Langdon missing and still waiting on either Weideman tonight or BBrown to click in the forward half, as neither have made our forward half better with their presence! As always go Dees, am hoping they start same as last week against Dogs, happy to take any winning margin!!
  3. Max gets zero protection from the umpires, and gets targeted every week by opposition. His impact is huge, covers a lot of ground, he is just super Max!!
  4. Good call, would like to see Lockhart get a run, and love Rivers acceleration, it would be great going into forward half.
  5. Agree that Tigers pressure brought Dogs demise! Harmes on Macrae Hibberd on Bont Spargo or ANB on Daniels Hoping Salem is fit
  6. Oliver is awesome - there weren’t any Demonlanders last year willing to trade him re Blues. AWESOME!
  7. I can’t resist, I know we’d like two Tracs, but I think TMac is ok at FF! Be happily surprised if Viney gets up but think Fritsch survives! Agree with rest of your sentiments with one exception Benny FF for Weid!! TMac CHF!
  8. We had forward success with: TMac & Jackson - Tall Spargo & Pickett / ANB Small Fritsch & Melksham - Medium marking You add either of Brown or Weid in and Melksham must go out, as if he stays, we become too big & slow, you lose too much tackling and speed pressure! Against the Dogs I’d bring in Brown and drop Weid & Melksham! Dees will have a significant height advantage in forward line. I’d also be tagging Daniel with Spargo or ANB!
  9. Lever penalised for deliberate, as Crow player shepherded ball out, free and goal. Spargo done for accidentally toe poking ball out in our forward line! Crow player smashes handball out of bounds, throw in! Zero consistency is what supporters hate! Anyway interstate home teams and Geelong where the fans are 95% plus for the home team get a 3-5 goal benefit from the umpires at home, and particularly in last quarters! We wuz robbed! The fact we were very average, is beside the point!
  10. Drop the umpire for six weeks - might help him make the call next time!!
  11. Get out of the blocks fast and cruising to a ten goal victory would be a great way to spend Saturday afternoon! Perfect prep for Dogs!! Spread the goals around, but Weid with 3-4 would be great, final request, kick more goals than points, 18-12 sounds good!
  12. When we played Tigers how dirty they are stood out, Nankervis & Lynch the standouts. Watch what happened to Max every time he took a mark in front of Nsnkervis, got smashed into the ground every time, not one 50. Plus all the other hits in head from Lynch/Riewoldt was why he was so slow against North, he took a battering against Richmond! Until one player takes AFL to court and their lawyer shows all the cheap shots to the head, dropping knees into players back etc. and it costs the AFL $$$$$$$ they won’t clean it up!
  13. Excellent post, nailed it in one!??
  14. The three that bug me are: - throwing the ball (Dogs get away with murder, won a flag doing it!) - dropping the ball in a tackle (Swans last week) - holding the man (rarely paid) Demon special: - how many times does Max get hit in the back of the head, blocked, belted into and rarely gets a free!
  15. Keeping with winning team and minimal changes is a good way to go. If any players have more than a niggle, like Jackson give them a rest. Hence to state the obvious change this week: Out: Jackson In: Weideman Also not knowing exactly what coaches are asking each player to do, it can be difficult to know if they have played well or not! After watching the game on the TV last week, Brayshaw seemed to struggle, multiple out on the full kicks, but did he perform his role satisfactorily? Up to the coach! Similarly Fritsch seemed to have a poor game, but those half forward and pocket roles, it’s hard to play consistently well, week in week out.
  16. I heard Mark Williams on radio a couple of years back re depth, saying one soldier in one soldier out is BS, e.g. Dusty by 24th player on Tiger list. If you lose Gawn, Petracca, May, Kossie, etc. they are very hard to replace, but at least we have reasonable depth across the field, and can protect structure: Key backs: Tomlinson out Petty pretty good replacement, if we lose another maybe Daw can come in Backs: Lockhart or Jetta Middle: covered above, but if we lose another you roll Brayshaw in the middle and perhaps Baker/Chandler/Sparrow on the wing! Key Forwards: Weideman Small Forwards: Chandler and Bedford Ruck: Daw At least we have reasonable depth and I’ve probably missed a few options.
  17. In 2018 Max to Viney or Max to Brayshaw were the breakaway tap outs from the middle that stuck in my mind! He doesn’t seem to put it into Trac and Oliver chest that much! I would like to see Max have two hit outs a quarter where he just smashes it 20-30 metres forward when we’re having a bad centre clearance patch, at least get some territory forward, and put Kossie in the middle a little more often when we’re struggling, just his speed and elusiveness would be good to throw into the mix!
  18. In 2018 Max to Viney or Max to Brayshaw were the breakaway tap outs from the middle that stuck in my mind! He doesn’t seem to put it into Trac and Oliver chest that much! 19. Big difference between dominating against a weak North VFL team and playing the Swans tonight. Harmes has finished top 5 in our B&F, proven he can do it at the level, play him in the right position and he will find form. Sparrow looks promising, but needs to earn it - ANB dominated at VFL a number of seasons back, and has taken quite a while to become a solid player. Petty like for like - tick! Melksham highly skilled, uses ball exceptionally well into forward 50, three tackles last week is probably all FD are looking for from him. He is frustrating at times, but his good is quality!
  20. As much as I dislike Pies, Treloar missed almost halF season, Philipps hardly played, Stephenson had a poor year! playing wise they will be ok, culture wise who knows the impact
  21. Cats got Brown for free, but when Demons were going to get him, I wasn’t overly enthusiastic! Would have much preferred Philips or Polec, both significantly younger and not on the slide! My only disappointment with draft is would have really liked Philips. BBrown for pick 30ish vs Cameron 3 firsts is a huge get for Demons. I think BB will be worth 10-15% on our percentage that translates to 3 more wins. I also think Weideman will be a better CHF than FF so am really looking forward to seeing our forward line fire in 2020! If one of Pickett, Spargo, Bedford, ANB, Melksham really lift in 2021 and Fritsch kicks straighter we will have a great forward line! BB - FF Picket FP Fritsch HF Weid CHF Spargo & Viney FP Melksham & Petracca HF Hunt either FP or HF Jackson a bonus We have a heap of talent, Ollie could do a little in forward line, TMac, plus more as backups! Trac, Oliver, Brayshaw 23-24 a year older Backline solid, Aside from a Lockhart make someone else a lockdown small. only spot I feel we are soft is wing, Baker? I look at 2021 & 2022 optimistically, we have huge upside! Go Dees!
  22. Give it an A. So great work. Brown will be a terrific addition, compared to what Geelong paid for Cameron, almost makes it deal of the trade! Had we have picked up one of Philips or Higgins would have gone to A+.
  23. Del Santo also said breaking out of centre, Brown was a great presence and you couldn’t help be drawn to kicking towards him, gave Brown significant praise! Craig Jennings the strategist another to really rate Brown and how much time Melbourne spent on trying to stop him. Brown is a huge get for the Demons, getting him for a draft pick or picks in 2nd round is a big win!
  24. One year at $500-$550k supposedly what he is on at Pies, then three years at around $350k-375k. $500-550k less 25-30% For salary cap drop! He would do a great job on other wing To Langdon, running up and down the “G”!
  25. If the cap is dropping 25% roughly $3M, and only dropping 4+-1 players, least paid players, it must be tough balancing books at most clubs, and those who back loaded deals, expecting cap to rise are doubly screwed (Magpies)! This has likely had an impact on what clubs can do, with exception of a few, who perhaps had front loaded a couple of players. Brown is a big win for the Demons, would really like to see one more player to come in to cover small forward or back, or a wingman! Then your only looking at a few players to step up, of which small forwards we have a few options, wing not so much, small back not so much. Maybe we can fill a hole in the draft, or rookie draft(unlikely)! Disappointed we couldn’t get Higgins, but getting rid of TMac salary or most of it, probably key to bringing in a Philip’s, Polec or Higgins type. Then again supposedly had money for Isaac Smith, I Wasn’t mad on Him As at 32 don’t need much to go wrong, to drop off perch, Jetta and N Jones examples for Demons! Hoping we can pick up one more player before This draft stage ends! ?
