  1. I went over for the 1994 match. Fortunately the Eagle supporters were OK then and didn't give us stick.
  2. Us of course but not really into footy.
  3. Not sure I can compare the team of the 50/60's to current as the game is so different. One thing from memory (as the game then was more one on one) but the Dee's stifled the opposition much like today We had good small men in Adams and Ridley and a tall forward line in Johnson, Marquis and later Lord. Of course there was Barassi - just being Barassi, Dixon was great on the wing and repelled many a ball. Bernie Massey was quite a favourite of mine, tough as nails as with Beckwith. In clearing the backline he seemed to always pick out the same people in the crowd to aim the ball at. No penalty in those days. The Melbourne crowd, quite large then as winning does that to a club, I believe were never really smug but always expected to win. The same sort of reaction then as to now with opposition supporters. How can we beat Melbourne ( especially Collingwood fans back then). As a young lad heading to Richmond station I had to cope with abuse and words I had never really heard before after the Woods beat us in 1958 GF having sat in the rain getting drenched. 59,60 & 64 made up for that. Some of the girls sitting with me back then would be upset if I didn't mention Roet, Townsend, Emselle and Hassa Mann. A lot of us from back then still catch up in the members.
  4. Been going since 1955 so have been very fortunate to see some brilliant times BUT have stuck fat since then and it's like a second lease of life. I shall enjoy every day our club dishes this type of football out to us. With astute draft selections of new players long may this continue.
  5. Be interesting to see the uptake of Melbourne supporters living in Perth from last year. Depending on the admittance fee I would not put it past the Freo supporters go along with their Dee's scarf's just to rub it into the "Chardy/Franchise" supporters. Maybe mid 30's crowd.
  6. Had to go down to the peninsular today and actually listened to SEN. In summing up callers, there are only two teams that will beat Melbourne for the grand final and that are the "brown paper baggers" and the "ferals from Punt Road". They are both convinced that we are rubbish and last year was a fluke. Just laughed hard for a couple of K's.
  7. All seems to have stopped when "the chemist" stopped coaching there and plied his trade at the Bummers.
  8. Can someone please shed some light for me please. Fox and media in general stating that West Coast unable to field a full team due to Covid even as yesterday but I read that currently only a couple fall into that category and the rest are injuries. There is even talk of giving them a priority selection. Good God. All teams go thru injuries but their problems seem to stem inhouse with a lot of their players looking very unfit and susceptible to injuries. Nic Nat springs to mind. My mind keeps drifting towards a system of TANKING by them. How do others see this?
  9. Went to Hamden in 1974 for Rangers v Celtic. Although I love the colours (green & white) but resinated with the R's. There were eight of us from various parts from around the world. (Rangers won) and the crowd was amazing. You could not move as we were shoulder to shoulder and one of our party complained of a "warm leg" from behind. Forget getting out for a toilet break. Great time though. Still love watching matches on Youtube. Atmosphere is brilliant.
  10. I'm the Blue side of town. Well done though.
  11. AFL accreditation would be revoked - IMMEDIATELY to said commentators.
  12. Your pretty close there as Cardwell, just south of Cairns, I believe is the wettest place in Aus.
  13. Not likely to read Ray Shaw's life Rob. What I do have to read is Chadwick - a man of many parts. Saving it for my hospital trip soon.
  14. I must be bored as I have just finished reading the Tigers on BigFooty Forum. Over 15 pages with just under half blaming the umpires for their loss along with hanging out half their players to dry as just not good enough for AFL. A lot believe it's an AFL directive to pay frees against their team but also blame the Dee's for staging to gain frees. Hate to see what they say/said after playing Footscray. There was one clown (Goshka) who posted the following:- "They are ordinary. This is our worst side since 2016 and with competent umpiring we would've pushed them. Every other club should hang their heads in shame letting this Melbourne team be the best side in the comp. Half of their 22 are absolute spuds. They're carried by 3 very good players." On a couple of his posts he keeps referring to their 3 flags to our 1. Haha. Most agreed that it was a difficult game to watch and that Melbourne are street's ahead of them and very glad we didn't have our kicking boots on.
  15. How many 50's paid against you????
  16. Accreditation cancelled real quick.
  17. The AFL & Chan 7 would not allow it going by Footscray's game. All those stops for throws. Will never happen.
  18. It all depends on your name/team wether you get away with it.
  19. I have been advocating that boundary umpires be able to signal for frees as they see what we see from the stands, where teams like Footscray, throw the ball (not seen by umpire in central/bad position) which upsets the livin bjesus in me. Also may help stop "ducking the head" as well. One can only hope.
  20. I can see an AFL directive to not replay contentious decisions on the big screen moving forward. Be just like the AFL to protect their own. Supporters own the game and really the AFL need to be reminded of that. I may get howled down but some of the current batch of umpires DO favour certain teams/players to the detriment of the others (Hawkins, Selwood and Dangerfield spring to mind) and players do react to bad decisions as well as crowds. To fix the "dessent" player reactions I believe is in the hands of the AFL and umpire dept not so much as the players. Again bad decisions cause most of the problems. You see some tackled players spin around 360+ and umpire calls play on then others tackled immediately on getting the ball and being pinged HTB straight away. Set the bar one way AFL then adjudicate. That would be a good start.
  21. And what are the young cheer squad kids doing in a pub??????? Caught you out Rob. Haha
  22. We will never know what the AFL will do/say to Nathan Williamson (umpire #22) but that has to be one of the worse decisions this year - maybe in quite a while. He appeared to be side on so really should have had a very clear view. He, paying the free, undoes a lot of good work by other umpires and in the current light of "umpire respect" makes it very hard for both players and supporters when rubbish decisions like that are dished up. Note that decisions like that ALWAYS seem to favour one or two teams. Dogs and cats spring to mind. The AFL must come down heavy on Hawkins to stamp this out of our game.
  23. Bloody Hawkins. Frost hardly brushed him on the side (not the back) and Hawkins dived as if falling off a cruise ship. Not only got a free but a fifty. Just plain stupid umpire decision. This is a joke AFL.
  24. Too bloody old Rob but the love of the Dee's is so strong.
