  1. From an eye witness (me, on the Punt Rd hill side of the ground almost directly opposite the play) RDB did not touch him. RDB was tackled with the ball from front on, tried to punch it away, could not because Dean had his hands on the ball as well and Dean threw his head back to stage for a free kick. It was all a phony report. Hurts till this day. RDB was tough, fearless and unrelenting but he was a pure, clean scrupulously fair footballer. A belated pardon would not go astray.
  2. Why can't we do both? Whilst it seems to me that we get our hands on the ball first at centre square stoppages, we don't seem to be able to convert possession into forward thrusts. Why not? Solve this r4iddle and we enhance our chances greatly.
  3. How about a hit out to the oppo's advantage? They have learned how to shark Maxie's hit outs better than us. A better definition would be a hit out that, even if not to a team mate, does not allow the oppos to have an opportunity for a clear disposal.
  4. As has been noted before, Maxie's main problem is his run up to kick. If he runs straight, he kicks to the left. He should be reminded that he must run at an angle to the goals to allow for his left hook. Not too much to give the umpire cause to call play on, but just enough. His ball drop is not ideal but it does not seem to adversely affect the direction of his kicks. Practice will make perfect.
  5. The dees kicked 8 goals to one. And only 4 poi8nts between the teams on pressure?? What gives or are the pressure stats problematical?
  6. After maxie's goal (should be credited to JvR for blocking the replay) I noticed again how nibbler was the one giving instructions to the other forwards. This time to maxie who listened and seemed to follow. I noticed it first in the GF where he was the one to call the forwards in for a chat after goals. Is he a coach in waiting and is he following goody's instructions?
  7. JvR has a mean streak. Watch how he disposes of toiges no 15 after his last mark. One handed toss and then gets on with the job.
  8. Reminds me of previous left foot opportunistic swooper like half forwards like our Tunbridge in the 50s and 60s and our former coach swooper Northey. Knows how to find space, where the goals are and doesn't waste his chances. Go Kade.
  9. Goody admitted that the side was not settled and he is still looking for the best lineup. That we are third and have the third best percentage after playing against some of last year's finalists is hopefully a good sign. That we beat the struggling weagles by only 62 points is a worry - it should have been 102 at least. Given the swannies capitulation against the catties our 50 points victory pales more than a bit. And 19 points against the broken toiges is also nothing special. OTOH so long as we remain close to the top, we still have another 16 games to perfect the team and build to another GF opportunity.
  10. Didn't Kane Cornes quit footy to become a fireman? With his provocative style, he has certainly learned how to start them.
  11. It was reported that Clarry had 20 possessions in the last quarter last week. If true, then perhaps he needs more recovery time than the others.
  12. Well organised opportunity for 10year + members to watch training and meet the players. Lots of kids as well. Light training mostly for show followed by easy access for members to approach players. Lots of photos and autographs. I imagine the same applies to all teams but we found the players to be approachable, cooperative (for photos and auotographs)and pleasant to meet and speak to. A great promotion for the club.
  13. For those who subscribe to Foxtel it is possible to stream on demand all AFL games. No longer need to record to watch replays, just stream. What a beauty!
  14. To be fair, Scully and Trengove were, at that time, universally considered to be first and second choices. As for Gysberts and Tapscott, and in many respects for Scully and Trengove, could it be that the player management and development at the time was inept? We have improved. Phew.
  15. Neither have I.
  16. Too hard to pick just 22 and I go back to the 50s. The only absolute locks are Barassi, Flower, Schwarz, Neitz, Lyon, Brett Lovett and Hardeman. Any combination of 22 would not be the best without these seven. B. Beckwith/Crompton/A Johnson; Tas Johnson/Smith/May; Bob Miller/Wight/Hughes HB. B Lovett; Neitz; Hardeman C. Flower; Wells/Wilson/Oliver; Dixon/Alves/ Langdon HF. Lyon; Schwarz; H Mann/Yze/Davey F. Ger Healy/Farmer/Robertson; Jacovich/Jurrah/Bennett; Stynes/Baker/O'Dwyer R. Gawn/White; Barassi; Petracca/Woewodin/ Mix them up any way and you get a great team. But except for the incomparable and untouchable seven, I am not game to make the final choice. There may be others but 65 years of memories is too much for me to sort through.
  17. Is the result different in 4K? When we win it doesn't matter what the quality is. When we lose I just don't watch.
  18. Thanks but I also use Foxtel for other viewing such as news, other sports, streaming movies and tv shows and some classic car shows. Too hard to give up so I will just add 30 minutes from now on but with he weagles replay it would have needed 60 minutes.
  19. Kayo costs more money - if not for ad free footy and cricket, Foxtel would not be worth it.
  20. Set my IQ4 to record the replay of yesterday's match. Listed as starting at 2.55 am. Sat down this morning to watch (and enjoy) but no, the replay ran out midway through third quarter. What is going on? It seems that Foxtel cannot control their times and allow the post match shows to go way past their alloted times so that by the time they get to our replay start time, they are still showing garbage. So I look for another replay to record - guess what, there is no other time this week only multiple minis and replays of Mike Sheahan and silly footy panel shows. What a disgusting service by Foxtel. I know I should add 30 minutes minimum to recording replays but why should I waste my memory just because they can't manage their shows. Is there any other source to record the full replay?
  21. Most of the original clubs were founded in the late 19th century (either VFL or VFA) when mobility was limited and footy grounds were in the heart of each suburb/team and within walking distance. St Kilda - Junction Oval; South Melbourne - Lakeside Oval; Fitzroy - Brunswick St; Essendon - Windy Hill; Footscray - Geelong Rd; Richmond - Punt Rd; Coll - Victoria Park; Hawthorn - Glenferrie; North Melbourne - Arden St; Carlton - Princess Park.; Geelong - Kardinia Park. Melbourne were the only exception to the suburban link presumably due to the influence of the MCC. In time, the geographic connections were stretched and broken as the population expanded and moved further out. So in time the direct connection between supporters and suburbs became less important.
  22. After the GF 2021 there was a recording of Goody' comments on the boundary to players interchanging during the period when doggies were on top. He didn't sound worried. Simple, repetitive (highly paraphrased) "stick to the plan". No panic, sudden changes just maintain the plan. And he was rewarded.
  23. Great win but some observations; 1. We cannot take a mark in a pack around the ground. For all his good work at ground level, Grundy can't compete in the air and we were beaten badly. Not everyone can be a Maxie but we must find an answer or better teams will make us pay. 2. Swanees played pretty footy - deft handpasses, short kicks to free players, lots of possessions but poor finishing. Better teams at this style will cause problems for us. 3. Have we ever seen better disciplined and effective pure wingmen as Hunter and Langdon. Both set up goals for Chandler with smart running and even smarter passes. 4. Rivers played like a tall interceptor and was a great support for Lever and May. 5. Bowey and McVee are as smooth as silk and, if not for the midfield that we already have, would be prime candidates for the positions. 6. Petracca, Viney, Brayshaw, Sparrow, Jordon, Nibbles all played great but Oliver, as usual, was in a league of his own. What a joy to watch.
  24. At some stages of the match, our two key forwards were Van Rooyen, playing his first game, and Petty, playing his first game in attack. We got away with it because everyone else stepped up and the swanees were pretty poor in the last quarter. Might not be so lucky again.
  25. Let's wish him well but leave him alone in his own time and space to develop.
