  1. Yes! Defenders are so underrated. We have enough scoring power. What we lack is a good defender to stop guys like Jack Riewoldt, Tom Hawkins, Joe Daniher, etc. outmarking and kicking a bag against us everytime.
  2. With so many of our stars missing games, who do you think will win our best and fairest this year?
  3. Probably what other teams have done in the past to rotate captaincy.
  4. Damn, some of you guys here make great points. The stupid recruiters failed miserably. Why didn't they recruit someone adequate to fill in for Gawn when he went down? We needed a hard nut to fill in and captain when Jonesy when down too? Oh wait, we have Viney. He went down too. Damn, the recruiters should have gotten two ready captains to just step in for them too. Where's our backup forward duo to replace Hogan and Watts?? Pathetic that nobody could step in. What about for Garlett? Tyson. Serious problems with the recruiters.
  5. Let's just move on from this non issue. We always get shafted by the umpires / officials on and off the field. MRP/ Tribunal results not going our way, etc. I am indifferent to Oliver's fall but if the shoe is on the other foot, we'll be hoping our player got off for such little contact. In the end, we had the last laugh with the victory. This was with another discrepancy in the free kick count.
  6. Umpire decisions are frustrating but if we're good enough, we should win regardless how bad it is. We seem to have really big deficiencies down back! Big forwards keeping tearing us apart every game whether it's both Riewoldts, hawkins, daniher (if he could kick straight), and now Roughead. I can see even a Travis Cloke, way past his prime, outmarking and kicking a bag against us. How come our backs keep giving away easy frees but Hogan will struggle to get one. Not an expert but maybe we should learn from other teams on how they defend cause we simply can't do it!
  7. We all love the club but I guess some of us get rather sick of disappointment after disappointment. We're the team that manages to lose to the wooden spoon team year after year? We're the team that keeps losing to the cats, saints, roos, etc etc or any team at etihad (1 win out of 50 doesnt mean anything) We're the team that loses to the blues last year when our season is on the line and carlton haven't won a game in 2 months. Met up with my swans mate earlier this year and reminded me how we lost to the swans in 1993 when they were on a 26 game losing streak and couldn't win another single game that year. We've got to be the most frustrating team to follow? Why oh why? On the bright side, there's always next week.
  8. This thread makes my blood boil. Are some of you guys serious? 15 games for us, 9 games for the cats. Anyone who signs him would be lucky to get 2 games from him! Besides that, who wants a guy who has a record of destroying relationships with other people in the club. Close this thread!
  9. Wasnt this deal suppose to be done first day of trade period. Continues to be the most difficult club to deal with.
  10. What's the name of the kids footy quiz show he used to host? Used to love watching that every weekend growing up. Maybe he should go back to that. Go Dees!
  11. I feel jealous too that our side doesn't play with so much heart and soul like the doggies. Brings back memories of all those hundred point thrashings when obviously a lot of our players don't care. This year has shown that we do have the talent but still lack that mental toughness time and time again.
  12. I've mentioned it in my previous post. I have only one logical conclusion why he hasn't signed. It's not cause his father is sick or he is home sick. The real reason is we are not offering enough for him. Scully left because of money. Frawley left because of money. Of course, if the money is similar from other clubs, then other factors come into it. If he wants to go home, he would have requested to be traded immediately. He hasn't asked for this. We need to up our offer and he needs to come down. If he wants over a million a year for the next 10 years, I fear he won't be playing for the Melbourne football club in 2018. If he does leave and cites homesickness as the reason, I don't buy it. It's all about the money.
  13. The more I think about the situation, the more I believe it's a financial reason for the delay in signing the contract. Family matter is definitely clouding the situation but at the end of the day, it's all about the money. Show me the money. If the club lays on the table 10 million over 5 years, do you think he's going to say... nah, let me think about it next year. We are probably offering him around 3m for 4 years. Maybe less? Do you guys really think he is worth over 1m? The best paid player at our club?
  14. Nat Fyfe in demons colours sounds nice. I'm optimistic that Weideman will get stronger next year and Watts will kick even a bigger bag of goals. As much as I love Hogan, it's not going to be the end of the world to lose him.
  15. A football club has to be one of the more flexible working environment to be around though. If he were to extend his contract, but the very next day has to spend time with family, I am sure the footy club will offer him long term compassionate leave. No difference with a player battling mental illness or cancer. He knows the direction of our football club. He knows the personnel behind the scenes that will deliver success. Any excuse to delay contract talks is really nothing but an excuse. What is the real reason? Maybe in fact we are not offering him enough?
  16. Can we offer all the single ladies here or men if he prefers for his selection. Our own special Bachelor show.
  17. I know there are guys that are hopeful he will extend his contract with us. I am going to admit that I'm one that believes he is gone. There might be a 10% chance he will change his mind but if I am a betting man, my money is on him going home. More money to go home and be with family? You are a better man than me if you can resist that. The question is now, how are we going to deal with all the speculation for another year. He is probably going to come out and say contract will put on hold until end of next season again. Can we supporters take this? It's just pure torture for us.
  18. Question. If nothing eventuates during this trade period and by the end of next year, Hogan does not re-sign and has requested to go home. What if Freo have nothing to trade with us - No decent picks or quality players. Can they get Hogan for nothing?
  19. They are not a Scully or Hogan who already has a million dollar offer on the table from a rival club. Good to have some cool heads around the place who are still hopeful the bloke will sign even if it's some time in the new year. But the rest of us panicking souls believe he won't recommit to us. How many times do we need to be burnt to learn?
  20. Can't the melbourne footy club do this? Can we trade Jesse to the highest bidder against his wishes? It's probably going to make other players hate our club though if we did!
  21. This sucks. How come there's always so much speculation with Melbourne players from Scully, Frawley and now Hogan. Many other clubs don't cop this stuff year after year like us. We keep losing our star players. Waiting for the day when a big name nominates us.
  22. Sad that we may have to trade our superstar but seems to be the fact of modern football. Anyone know how well Adelaide did for losing Dangerfield last year? I am guessing they would have been better if they traded with us or another team the year before?
  23. Hey guys, what do think about moving Lynden Dunn back to the forward line. With depth in our back stocks now, Dunn as a third tall might be better than say Dawes?
  24. Might have landed us Hogan, but the same year we wasted another high pick in Jimmy Toumpas, gave away another first round pick for Dawes, and brought in the experienced David Rodan. Didn't old Todd have to come out and warn the club not to overlook his son too? True though, we stuffed up big time with recruiting and developing our players. Teams like Hawthorn and Geelong don't seem to have many high draft picks. We, on the other hand, seem to waste one high draft pick after another.
  25. Can't blame them. For years, they've been taught to lose games. Wait, we're suppose to win now? What's that about?
