This needs to be cleared up, because I am under the impression veterans don't give you an extra spot on the list. I thought the point of veterans was that their salary didn't come under the salary cap. And according to the AFL website, Robertson was a veteran this year, meaning he was 'outside the list'. So whatever being a veteran actually means, it doesn't change anything, because Bruce takes Robbo's spot as a veteran. We are currently able to use 1, 2, 11, 18 and one of 34 or PSD1. Edit: OK, with some research, I can finalise this once and for all. A club is allowed 38 players on its senior list, plus up to 6 veterans and up to 6 rookies. There are 5 gaps in that list, thus confirming that we need to delist another player if we want to use both pick 34 and PSD1.

In Caro's article in today's Age, she says that this year's fixture is a reward from the AFL for straightening up our off-field affairs. Apparently Jimmy really wanted to have a youth themed match in 2009, but we weren't allowed it (or much else that we wanted) because of how bad a state we were in. You're being too harsh. You can't be a list clogger if you're not on the list. Rookies are designed not to be the foundation of a club, not even to be good players. They're there to give fringe or project players a chance to crack into AFL football. Zomer didn't make it, like most rookies. The decision to delist him is correct. But we don't need to insult him.

It's not a Friday night game. They haven't decided when Round 22 games are going to be played. Since us and North are unlikely to be playing finals, it'll most likely be a Sunday match. And 14 MCG matches = 14 MCG matches.

Does anyone have a link to a copy of the draw that has home/away in it? The AFL's website has the full Melbourne fixture, but it doesn't say whose home match each is. Edit: Also just noticed that we have 3 twilight matches, but none of them look like being our home game.

Financially this is good. West Coast at home could be a problem, but Adelaide and Sydney have bigger drawing capabilities than Port and Fremantle. Club says 15 MCG games, I only count 14. Etihad only twice is good too. Just the one Friday Night is a bit of a bummer, but at least it's vs the Dogs, who should be top 4.

I think the AFL could reasonably expect the following teams to play more entertaining football than us: St Kilda Geelong Western Bulldogs Hawthorn Collingwood Adelaide Brisbane Essendon Carlton Of the rest, I wouldn't rule us out of being more entertaining than North, Richmond, Fremantle, Port Adelaide, West Coast and Sydney. That puts us around about 10th in the order of 'excitement'. So even if the sees us in that light, we're a fair way down the pecking order.

Yes, but it's down to the AFL's opinion of each club. All 16 clubs would tell the AFL that they're going to play fast, exciting, high-scoring football. Hopefully the AFL has some sense and realises that it's our time to move up the ladder. But I doubt it.

Ridiculous comment. Ponting's hands were tied. Hilfenhaus is terrible at ODIs. Simply terrible. Why he got a game in front of Bollinger will remain unknown I guess. Shocking call from the selectors. Hilfenhaus has never shown anything at ODI level. So outside of Hilfenhaus we had Siddle, who did OK, Johnson, who always leaks runs, and was probably injured, and Watson, who is also pathetic. Without Brett Lee and Nathan Bracken our bowling line-up has taken a massive hit. Both games we've seen it. Don't know what the states are of our injured players, but we need Lee and Hopes back as soon as possible. Marsh opens in place of the injured Paine, the new wicketkeeper (Hartley?) will probably bat at 7. Bollinger in for Hilfenhaus. Lee in for Johnson if fit. Hopes in for Marsh. Open with Hopes or Hussey if need be.

Well explained Nasher. If it was up to me I'd delist Bartram in a heart beat. So many more positives associated with Cheney and McNamara. Bartram has had his turn, and hasn't shown enough for mine. What's sad is, if we do want to use 34, one of those 3 may be forced off the list whilst we keep Newton, Bell, Dunn and PJ. I go on about that, but it does really annoy me.

That's not what I meant. I meant that there isn't going to be a high-quality, top-30 possibility, who isn't available in the ND, but is in the PSD. Jurrah was touted as being a possible top-30 selection last year, but obviously wasn't in the ND. That kind of scenario isn't going to happen again. If we get a good young player in the PSD, it will be because the other clubs all passed on him. Just like our chances of getting a good player at pick 34 or 50.
