Well, there you go. I would say that Warnock's better suited to the gorillas, and Frawley to the quicker CHFs. BBP, you need to watch the game before you comment on it. As has been pointed out, Frawley was moved off both Fevola and Riewoldt when they kicked their goals. Tanking or resting or rotation or flexibility, whatever it was, when Frawley was on both of them he looked comfortable and competent.

Warnock, Frawley, Garland, Rivers fit in for me. Warnock and Frawley for FB and CHB. Rivers and Garland can push up the ground more, or take smaller forwards. McDonald will play midfield. Bruce too. Grimes could play defence, but if we bring Strauss in then Grimes could well go into the midfield. Not sure about where Grimes is best suited though. Bennell and Strauss the two most likely from the others to play defence. Bell no chance. Cheney probably squeezed out of the team. McNamara has the potential to take a spot in the defence, possibly Rivers', but at the moment he isn't ready.

Rogers, Hodge, McDonald all made centuries vs South Australia. Victoria is such a strong team. It'd be nice to see one of them get back into the Test side.

It's been tried before. He simply doesn't have the ability to play key position roles. He's gone forward before; his kicking for goal is no good. He might have the body, but as rpfc said, he doesn't use it. Like many, I'd rather Green.

I've heard very little about Carlisle, but it seems as though he'd be good for pick 18.

Oops, sorry, that's a typo. Was meant to write 2 veterans. But 1858 cleared that up.

Lee is out of the India ODI series: http://www.cricinfo.com/indvaus2009/conten...ory/432176.html This scheduling is beyond a joke now. Why we have to play 7 ODIs now is beyond me. I think the Champions League wasn't originally meant to be directly before this series, but still, right before a home summer, having been away since basically late February, it's nonsense.

This needs to be cleared up, because I am under the impression veterans don't give you an extra spot on the list. I thought the point of veterans was that their salary didn't come under the salary cap. And according to the AFL website, Robertson was a veteran this year, meaning he was 'outside the list'. So whatever being a veteran actually means, it doesn't change anything, because Bruce takes Robbo's spot as a veteran. We are currently able to use 1, 2, 11, 18 and one of 34 or PSD1. Edit: OK, with some research, I can finalise this once and for all. A club is allowed 38 players on its senior list, plus up to 6 veterans and up to 6 rookies. At http://www.afl.com.au/news/newsarticle/tab...55/default.aspx our list goes until 40, which is due to us having 2 veterans. There are 5 gaps in that list, thus confirming that we need to delist another player if we want to use both pick 34 and PSD1.

Good article. Totally correct. IIRC, we went to the Shrine on either ANZAC day or Remembrace day recently. I remember seeing photos of the team all there. Also, don't mean to be rude or disrespectful but it's spelt Kokoda.

In Caro's article in today's Age, she says that this year's fixture is a reward from the AFL for straightening up our off-field affairs. Apparently Jimmy really wanted to have a youth themed match in 2009, but we weren't allowed it (or much else that we wanted) because of how bad a state we were in. Now, we've fixed things up, we have a much brighter future, and the AFL has decided to be nice to us and give us a lot of what we weren't given in 2009. http://www.theage.com.au/news/caroline-wil...6835153129.html

You're being too harsh. You can't be a list clogger if you're not on the list. Rookies are designed not to be the foundation of a club, not even to be good players. They're there to give fringe or project players a chance to crack into AFL football. Zomer didn't make it, like most rookies. The decision to delist him is correct. But we don't need to insult him.

According to http://www.afl.com.au/portals/0/afl_docs/f...re_document.pdf Round 1 vs Hawthorn was requested by both clubs to promote a 'youth' theme. Also, looking forward to Round 11, when we get to play Carlton, and hence Brock McLean.

Cameron Schwab's take: "Having 14 games at the MCG and a mix of Saturday and Sunday games, plus a Friday night game, a game in Darwin and the Queen's Birthday are rounds ... I think it's a really positive result for us. "The one thing about the Sunday games is that at least you can get a bit of a rhythm happening in your season - I know they're not everyone's preference - but it's actually harder when you play Saturday, Sunday, Saturday and Sunday again. "That's because of the six and eight-day breaks and those sorts of things. When you put breaks between our games, we get 14 out of the 22 at the 'G and the big run early gives us an opportunity of building momentum into our season. "The AFL was very responsive when we sat down and spoke to them and we got a good hearing."
-
It's not a Friday night game. They haven't decided when Round 22 games are going to be played. Since us and North are unlikely to be playing finals, it'll most likely be a Sunday match. And 14 MCG matches = 14 MCG matches.

You're right. More bulls^^t from the HUN: "The draw will reward the elite teams with plenty of free-to-air games, but Melbourne has successfully lobbied for fewer Demons games on Foxtel. the Demons had just 10 games on Seven or Ten." source http://www.heraldsun.com.au/sport/afl/mond...x-1225792251723 We went backwards, not forward, FFS.

Dees may take Bradshaw in the pre-season draft
titan_uranus replied to Bring-Back-Powell's topic in Melbourne Demons
This is nothing but HUN rubbish. Bradshaw wants to play for Sydney. Not for Melbourne. Melbourne wants youth. Not a 30 year old (hence we delist Robertson). We will not be taking Bradshaw. End of story. -
9 free to air according to http://www.heraldsun.com.au/sport/afl/melb...f-1225792711268 (not including Round 22). Edit: None of our interstate games are on free to air. Of the 9, they're all MCG matches except 2
-
Does anyone have a link to a copy of the draw that has home/away in it? The AFL's website has the full Melbourne fixture, but it doesn't say whose home match each is. Edit: Also just noticed that we have 3 twilight matches, but none of them look like being our home game.
-
Financially this is good. West Coast at home could be a problem, but Adelaide and Sydney have bigger drawing capabilities than Port and Fremantle. Club says 15 MCG games, I only count 14. Etihad only twice is good too. Just the one Friday Night is a bit of a bummer, but at least it's vs the Dogs, who should be top 4.
-
A definite no because of his body. But he's not that good a player anyway. Prefer to stick with our defenders.
-
I think the AFL could reasonably expect the following teams to play more entertaining football than us: St Kilda Geelong Western Bulldogs Hawthorn Collingwood Adelaide Brisbane Essendon Carlton Of the rest, I wouldn't rule us out of being more entertaining than North, Richmond, Fremantle, Port Adelaide, West Coast and Sydney. That puts us around about 10th in the order of 'excitement'. So even if the sees us in that light, we're a fair way down the pecking order.
-
Yes, but it's down to the AFL's opinion of each club. All 16 clubs would tell the AFL that they're going to play fast, exciting, high-scoring football. Hopefully the AFL has some sense and realises that it's our time to move up the ladder. But I doubt it.

Manou has been called up to replace Paine: http://www.cricinfo.com/indvaus2009/conten...ory/431967.html The article says that Marsh is likely to open with Watson. I guess that means Manou will bat at 7 or thereabouts.
-
Ridiculous comment. Ponting's hands were tied. Hilfenhaus is terrible at ODIs. Simply terrible. Why he got a game in front of Bollinger will remain unknown I guess. Shocking call from the selectors. Hilfenhaus has never shown anything at ODI level. So outside of Hilfenhaus we had Siddle, who did OK, Johnson, who always leaks runs, and was probably injured, and Watson, who is also pathetic. Without Brett Lee and Nathan Bracken our bowling line-up has taken a massive hit. Both games we've seen it. Don't know what the states are of our injured players, but we need Lee and Hopes back as soon as possible. Marsh opens in place of the injured Paine, the new wicketkeeper (Hartley?) will probably bat at 7. Bollinger in for Hilfenhaus. Lee in for Johnson if fit. Hopes in for Marsh. Open with Hopes or Hussey if need be.

The latter I believe is correct. Both Scully and Trengove are playing their first game. Thus both 'possess' it. Thus there needs to be a possessive apostrophe after both. Where is Barry Dawson when you need him?
