POLL: Watts v Naitanui ... Did we get it right or wrong?
titan_uranus replied to Range Rover's topic in Melbourne Demons
I never said it wasn't 'well worth the ask'. I said you're a f**king idiot for allowing people to give multiple answers to a question to which they, by definition, can only have one answer. In other words, I am able to say I think we got it right and that we got it wrong with one vote. You're now a double idiot for both doing this in the first place and then not understanding what I was talking about. -
I think there's a problem with people whose initials are RR. Their posts seem to be total crap.

Well done on missing the point. When a landowner chooses to build a new house, and he tears down the old one and has a pile of rubble, would you walk up and say 'you may be trying to build a new house, but you had a house before, and now you have a pile of rubble, how bad is that!'? No. You would recognise that the old house was OK but ultimately a new house was required, and to get from the old one to the new one you have to engage in renovations which create a mess.

I usually don't see the point in criticising umpires, but I'm going to make an exception to my rule: Yesterday's umpiring was the worst I have ever seen. This is not hyperbole. I sat there yesterday, with the game clearly decided, trying to make sense of it. Umpire Leppard is a complete hack. Those two free kicks he paid against Spencer in the ruck were totally shocking decisions and no AFL umpire should have seen any free kick there. He also paid the holding the ball decision on the Members' Wing against Douglas, which was a complete disgrace. He may have (though I'm not sure) paid the holding the ball against Jones, when he accidentally took possession due to another player fumbling, was, quite literally, immediately tackled, and had no chance to dispose of it. He also failed to award a 50 metre penalty when someone (was it Howe? Tapscott? I can't remember) in the first quarter had an Adelaide player run into him as he ran back from his mark. Don't even start me on the deliberate out of bounds decision either.

A monkey could also understand that this is a question to which people can only have one answer, yet you have allowed them to choose multiple answers. You are a complete fail. -
Who We Picked/Missed ... A Tale of Recruiting Woe
titan_uranus replied to Range Rover's topic in Melbourne Demons
I hereby declare Range Rover the most useless poster on this board. I cannot think of a single other poster whose posts are consistently total wastes of space. -
Thankyou for the sanity. Great and accurate post. Brilliant. Sums up WYL in every thread ever created, ever. 1) No you won't. 2) Who has suggested he's not slow? No one. Well done, champ. 3) No one's deluding themselves. There is a suggestion he has an injury. Either he does or he doesn't. If he doesn't, then that's a disappointment, for the simple fact that he could be better than he actually is. Does that mean he is a failure? No. Does that mean other players who have had better years are going to be better than him? No. Does that mean he is doomed to fail from here on out? No.

He's our captain. You don't think he just wants to push on and lead the side during our slump? As opposed to sitting on the sidelines and watching?
-
Fair, there is something wrong, obviously, but, and this is maybe out of hope more than anything, I think it's an injury/OP. If it's not, and he really is 100% fit, then he has a lot of work to do to either lose the weight that is slowing him down, or fix his running style, or do whatever it takes to improve speed. If he can't do that, then he needs to lift his workrate to make up for the slowness.
-
Old man he may be, but he's still speedy. Brent Harvey's the same. I would be disappointed if he is 100% fit, as his performances don't speak of a player who is 100% fit. But as I said, we have far bigger issues to worry about. Trengove has shown he has the ability to be a decent footballer at AFL level. That puts him above more than half our list, who are yet to reach this threshold requirement.

Wrong on most counts. Correct. Dean Bailey is the number 1 reason in a long list of reasons why we're pathetic. And it's the dominant one.

James Frawley ... What's happened?

LOL. Love it. Point is, Frawley is playing FB in the worst team possible to be a FB in, given the ball comes into the defensive 50 with complete and utter ease. -
Give the players with question marks a run
titan_uranus replied to rolly's topic in Melbourne Demons
Strauss was awful today. His injuries may give him a sympathy contract, but he's done nothing in his career to deserve it. He's slow, he's soft, he doesn't chase, doesn't position well, and doesn't attack particularly better than anyone else. I honestly can't work out what value he has and what he might add to our side. Words need not be said about Spencer's game today. Everyone knows how I feel about Dunn. I thought his finger-pointing was better today. Still useless when we don't have the ball. Wouldn't know a zone if it hit him in the face. Sellar was good. MacDonald was average. Tapscott is a keeper, he adds value. Bail played much, much better today. If Dunn deserves a new contract, Bail clearly does. -
Don't you dare defend Spencer today. That was as putrid a display of 'ruckwork' I have ever seen. If there was ever a situation of the statistics lying, this is it. Spencer was uncompetitive in the ruck contests, was pushed and shoved out of the way at marking contests, dropped marks, continually handballed to players under pressure because he didn't want to kick, and just generally was lifeless. If there's anything he should be able to do now, though, after all these years, it's ruck, and that was the single-most galling part of him today. I have no idea how he got 21 hitouts but none of them would have been to any sort of advantage.

At the game today, what stood out as much as anything else was the size difference of Melbourne players to Adelaide's. They are grown men, with big, mature bodies. And they don't have a list of players who are either big, but slow, or fast, but soft. Dangerfield is bigger than any Melbourne midfielder and is just as fast. This reinforces for me even more the idea that our development of our players is the primary and dominants reason for our crappiness. We aren't able to build these kids into men. Our players are just boys in comparison. Jack Grimes looked tiny compared to Adelaide's players, and he's been in the AFL system just as long as Dangerfield has.

D!ck. The lure of GWS I understand. Even the decision. But to lie to the club like he did, then cowardly not face up to the club when revealing it, is so incredibly low. I have no respect for him any more. I've been rather pleased to note he's been rubbish this year. For all I care, he can stay that way.

James Frawley ... What's happened?
titan_uranus replied to dazzledavey36's topic in Melbourne Demons
First of all, Walker is a star. Second, their mids had no pressure on them when delivering inside 50. He was bad, sure, but there's more to it than simply him falling from his lofty standards. It's not all doom and gloom with Chip. We have much bigger problems. -
Demonland Player of the Year - Round 22
titan_uranus replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
6 - Sellar 5 - Sylvia 4 - Howe 3 - Blease 2 - Jones 1 - McDonald What game were you watching?! Spencer was possibly the worst on the ground! He was totally uncompetitive in the ruck and a hack around the ground. Sam Jacobs pulverised him all day. I'm being mean here, but that's the worst decision to award votes I've ever seen on this website. -
Surely has OP. If not, then that's a worry. But let's just say he has, and focus on the real problems.
-
We were rubbish, and they did to us what they should have. Too many list-cloggers getting games and doing nothing with them. Too many big Adelaide bodies shoving around pathetically weak Melbourne ones. Sellar, Blease, Howe, Jones, Sylvia were good. No one else. Edit: Jake Spencer was insipid.
-
If we were a Brisbane or a Richmond, this would definitely be a danger game for Adelaide. Alas, we are not. I just hope we manage some competitiveness.
-
Collingwood and Carlton may both lose in one night, ruining one's chance of finals and denting the other's chance of top 4. This could be the greatest night ever. Now that I've said this, they'll both probably pull wins out of their asses. Although Carlton may have screwed themselves anyway. Without the percentage boost we thought they'd get, they mightn't be able to get past Fremantle, unless Fremantle themselves get belted by North tomorrow.
-
Phew. Thanks. Having not seen the game, I was hoping that was the case. We do not need Bate adding his name to the list of has-beens declaring they are prime for a new contract by playing one/two handy games at the end of a contract which has been full of nothing but disappointment and mediocrity.
-
Oh God no...first Dunn, now Bate. Without even pointing out that this is one single VFL game, his form this year does not warrant a new contract, and the prospects of him improving if we do give him one are slim, given he's gone nowhere in the last 5 years.

Unless you're the Seattle Seahawks in 2010... Also, don't 12 teams make the NFL playoffs?
