POSTGAME: GRAND FINAL vs Western Bulldogs
titan_uranus replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
Nah let's go for 2021 pages. -
Agree. I can't stand it when players "move up" in the numbers as if moving from 42 to 27 is some sort of promotion. I'm firmly of the view that you show up to the club, you're given a number, and that's your number. Make it yours. Our first draft pick can be given number 2, with no fuss, and we move on.

Packers, Patriots, Titans

Tim Lamb was interviewed earlier today on AFL Trade Exchange, as part of AFL Trade Radio. Worth a listen, IMO. Touches on Jackson, Oliver, Petracca, Dunstan and our general strategy and list build.

POSTGAME: GRAND FINAL vs Western Bulldogs

Surely drew some confidence from the 44 point comeback in that game when we were 19 down in the third quarter of the GF. That and the Brisbane Round 12 game were huge for us, I think. -
True. I think it's been reported he's got another one year deal though? Don't the rules require every club to take at least three picks in the draft?

Well to be fair, if the allegation of nastiness comes from us singing that song, that didn't happen until after the GF. It was petty, us singing that song, but if the Dogs don't like it they should refrain from getting on the [censored] and chanting songs after they win games that aren't Grand Finals. -
Welcome to Demonland: Luke Dunstan
titan_uranus replied to Whispering_Jack's topic in Melbourne Demons
Apples and oranges here, @Kent, to be fair. Dunstan was playing first-string midfield minutes in his games at St Kilda this year. None of Harmes, Jones or vandenBerg were. I think that will explain why his disposal and clearance numbers are well in front of the other three. -
I think with today's signings, Declase and Hore are the only players left without a contract for 2022.
-
You'd imagine we're only going to keep one of Chandler and Bedford. What interests me is that Chandler was repeatedly an emergency this year but Bedford wasn't. You'd think that means we rate Chandler higher than Bedford?

Welcome to Demonland: Luke Dunstan

The rationale suggested by some journos was that he's concerned that at sides where's he's a theoretical Round 1 best 22, he'll be at risk of being pushed out in favour of kids if the losses mount. If you accept that as being true, he's made a decision to put himself into the queue with us in the hope of forcing his way into a premiership contender. -
Welcome to Demonland: Luke Dunstan

I don't personally rate Dunstan that highly, but I understand the thought process here, and I won't be shocked at all if the club's read on him is better than mine. -
On goals per game: Fritsch 2.46, Brown 1.92, Pickett 1.60, McDonald 1.43.

What to do on the weekend after the grand final?
titan_uranus replied to Whispering_Jack's topic in Melbourne Demons
Me too, my first watch of the replay was with the SEN commentary. And agree, Healy was the overwhelming negative. Just adds nothing at all, says some really stupid stuff, out of touch with the modern game. He's the weak link on On The Couch, too. -
He wasn't chasing free kicks at all in the GF though. At least one of the chopping free kicks was soft, but the only time Brown appeared to look for a free was when he was slung by Williams having dispossessed the ball, which every player does.

I suspect there will be a floating fixture again but they'll lock in the first 4-6 rounds before the season starts. We should get a number of good quality games in that first 4-6 weeks. Round 1 hopefully will be a home game at the G vs a big club: Hawthorn, Essendon or Geelong might be good. But clubs will want home games against us, and if we have another good year we should expect a healthy allocation of prime time slots.

Can anyone give any indication on sizing for the t-shirts bought via the MFC store? There's no size guide on our website as far as I can see. Do they fit big/small?

POSTGAME: GRAND FINAL vs Western Bulldogs

Goodwin acknowledged this on On The Couch last night. Conceded that moving him to the wing/half-back was a mistake of his. Said it in a bit of jest, but I'm sure he agrees it was a failure of an idea when we did it. -
I always thought Lockhart was going to make it. Rivers, Hunt and Bowey have all ended up being superior small defenders though. Always loved vandenBerg's spirit, but as a club we have developed to a point where players need more than vandenBerg's aggression to get a gig in the 22.

A sad day. Nev was one of the greats. Gave his all, always. How often did he find himself one-on-one with someone 15cm+ taller than him? Could easily have been AA playing a role that is difficult to master. Brought true leadership to the club, too. Go well, Nev.

Goodwin on On The Couch tonight said there is a Wednesday deadline. I suspect something to do with announcing delistings prior to the FA/trade period so that players know where they stand? Edit: or maybe the deadline was that the players get their CBA-mandated annual leave starting from Wednesday so we had to run exit interviews today and tomorrow, or something like that.

Yes this irrationally excites me too. I never thought I'd see a Melbourne jumper with the gold reigning premiers logo, but next year its ours!

POSTGAME: GRAND FINAL vs Western Bulldogs
titan_uranus replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
On The Couch tonight looked at the Dogs' set up in those critical centre bounces. How utterly ironic, poetic even, that we won a Grand Final by getting on top through our opponent succumbing to the "bees to the honeypot" problem.
