  1. Someone said earlier that Lockhart was the carry over. Admittedly, I didn't watch the above clip, but was he in there?
  2. Somebody we shouldn't be worried about.
  3. Does anyone care what Caro has to say these days? She's been irrelevant for years.
  4. I'm stoked Lewis is back. Same for Jetta. Bags of experience, footy nous, courage, skill... you name it, these guys can both bring it to the table. Lewis isn't winning any 100 metre sprints for the rest of his career, but his footy brain more than makes up for it. And we've seen both ANB and Oscar dropped over the past fortnight. Maybe Goodwin is finally running out of patience with these guys as well? I think it's a good sign, though. As fans we have seen it, and it's nice to know that the coaches see it as well.
  5. Doesn't get the juices flowing for me. Strikes me as a bloke with a little more pace than our current midfield but slightly worse skills. I'm not sure it is what we need.
  6. That's pretty much it. It was very much a tongue in cheek suggestion from me. I was trying to highlight the point that a few people just want someone with pace in the side, or to recruit someone with pace, without actually looking fully at what they bring to the side. A few rounds ago there were suggestions we should bring Baker in, purely because he is quick. We need much, much more than just pace.
  7. I'm backing us in for a win. But then I say that every week. We will win.
  8. I think he means someone who can direct the players, yell instructions etc. Like the runner used to do before the new rules.
  9. True, and I said as much earlier in the thread. His opening gambit isn't what he is expecting, just a starting point in negotiations. I'm only coming from the other side and how the club might view his worth. When we signed other players, did we have a contract in mind, or do we have money ready to go to cover all options? I agree that the club rates Weideman, but I also believe that the club has been really good in not 'giving in' to big demands, and it has allowed us to sign players to good contracts that gives us flexibility. What happens if Weideman and his manager dig his heels in? What happens if another club comes calling with a good offer? That's alot of 'what ifs', but he is a young key forward who has shown plenty of potential, if not a whole lot of consistency. I think it means this contract situation might take a while to play out.
  10. Depends on what we want to pay him. I'd also wager that we are sniffing around other free agents and need to ensure that we have the right amount of money there to get them to the club.
  11. The only problem I see there is if Weideman believes he is worth more than what we believe he is worth to keep him, and thus he doesn't remain at the MFC. I believe he is far more likely to stay than leave, but you really never know.
  12. You can't blame his management for the opening gambit. Starting high will help them potentially get the deal they really want. I doubt they really want 650k, but starting there means they have more room to negotiate. On the flip side, we know he isn't worth that, and I highly doubt we will be paying him that sort of money. In fact, if they were to stick firm on it, I think you'll find Sam will be playing elsewhere next season. What it adds up to is that the contract may not happen until towards the end of the season. Sam will have time to, hopefully, show some further improvement and consistency in his game, and we can come to a fair agreement for all involved.
  13. You've said this, or something similar, three times in this thread. We get it. You want Spargo out for Garlett.
  14. The cap was our matchwinner. Slotted two crucial, momentum shifting goals in the second and then had the calmness to kick the sealer in the last. Full votes from me.
  15. If we need foot speed, maybe we can coax Sam Blease out of retirement?
  16. He was recruited as spelling practice for the players. I believe the closest some have come is 'Kolojashknee'.
  17. Did it take you four days to come up with that? I quoted you ages ago and you ignored it why go back to it now?
  18. Over his career, both with us and the Blues, he has played St. Kilda 15 times and kicked 23.12. Edit - he has kicked 8 goals in 6 games against the Saints for us. Not terrific numbers.
  19. I don't think I've ever had to call the club, other than to sign up my daughters when they were born. Never had an issue. That's not to say others don't, but I don't think we should be painting the 'club communication' as all doom and gloom.
  20. There are some questions you would think you wouldn't have to ask on Demonland. The above is one of them, Nash. Very strange suggestion to rest the captains.
  21. I agree we need both Lewis and Garlett in, but Spargo and Stretch play different roles within the side, and therefore it makes sense to drop Spargo instead of Stretch.
  22. I reckon @titan_uranus summed it up well - while they're not a good football side, their strengths are what we struggle to contain at times, and thus it will make it a tough game for us. We can beat them if we bring the type of footy we played in the second half of last week, or in the two finals against Geelong and Hawthorn last year, for example.
  23. We will win more than our fair share of clearances, so I think we go a long way to winning this game of footy by ensuring we don't let the Saints get some easy ball when it hits the deck - the last thing we need is the Saints hitting a few quick handballs and then streaming through the guts with it. Membrey and Bruce are the queens of hanging out the back in space for some easy goals, and they'll look like millionaires if we let them do it.
  24. As long as history doesn't repeat as to the result and how we played in this game last year, then he is welcome to get another game!
  25. I'd be dropping Spargo before Stretch. Plus Spargo plays forward while Stretch spent most of his time on a wing. Garlett won't play on a wing.
