Which is a shame, really. Did he peak a little too soon, and the pressure and expectation were too much for him last season? I still see plenty of potential in him, and hopefully a full pre-season both on the track and in the weights room have him primed to become the player we know he has the potential to be.
-
I've got him on block as well. No doubt he was yapping about how fit everyone was and yada yada yada. I think this year is proof enough that we were anything but fit.
-
Is it just me, or does anyone else get slightly excited when they see a thread like this rise from the dead after not having a post for a few days? I'm always anticipating some news on the subject, but it rarely is.
-
I think he's Olisik's younger brother.
-
Yeah, because Port have been sensational since he arrived. I shouldn't be responding, should I?

How did you come to this conclusion? Our movements in FA so far suggest we have money to spend. And no, holding off on some contracts as we work through things is absolute common sense. Every club does it.
-
You say this now, then he squibs a contest or doesn't do enough for a few games and you're whacking the club for bringing him back. Regular as clockwork.
-
I also love watching the other videos of this that have different commentary over the top. Even though he's not with the club anymore, watching this still puts a massive smile on my face.
-
I might be wrong, but I doubt it. He had a bit of a shocker this season so those offers might have dried up a little.

The difference between Frost and Weid are the interest levels of other clubs. I'd imagine that the Weid wouldn't have had a huge amount of interest, while Frosty has had a terrific season and at 26 is in his prime years. I am hopeful that the club stick to their guns as well, as I don't believe Frosty is someone who would be in our best 22 if everyone is fit.
-
Frosty confirmed this morning that we are yet to give him a contract offer, while Hawthorn and one other club have approached his management about his availability. A few quotes here: Hawthorn has contacted Sam Frost's management to ask about its chances of landing the uncontracted Demons defender. Frost confirmed the approach today and said there was a clear expression of interest from at least one other club. He said he is still waiting on a contract offer from Melbourne after playing every game this season. "There is one other club that definitely have (called) and I'm sure there's others that have inquired," he said on SEN this morning. "Based on my age (26) and the year I've had, I imagine there would have been a few phone calls but I don't know how serious a lot of those phone calls are or aren't so I'll just leave that to Anthony (McConville, manager)." Frost said he would catch up with McConville "in the next couple of days" to discuss his options as they wait for a new contract from Melbourne. "There's no deadline or anything like that, so I'm not sure, to be honest (when a Demons offer will come) but obviously time's getting thin so the sooner the better, I suppose. "The longer it goes on waiting on Melbourne is probably the difficult part of it. You never know how these things are going to unfold. "I try and steer clear of a lot of it but as far as I'm told through my management they're having good conversations with Melbourne. That's where I'd like to be."

Did something akin to the Batphone go off in your house when this thread was started?

I appreciate the sentiment Ron but we need to look forward, not back.

Hindsight is a wonderful thing, though. He was fresh off playing his best footy for the club and looked fit. At the time I think we were all happy to offer him that deal and keep him on board. He looked to be over the injury and had a terrific finals series. Of course it's easy to look at the deal in a less than favourable light after he missed all of this season, but the fact he is still just 27 and is seemingly headed in the right direction is a good sign for all involved. And what if it happens all over again? He may well retire like Tim Smith has just done, and therefore we move on from that contract. I'm going to back him in to be in our side come Round 1 next year.
-
Me either. We can't overlook the fact that he's had a horror run for 3 years now. However, if he gets himself fit, and yes it's a big if, then he would slot superbly back on to a flank for us in 2020. We just need to keep our fingers crossed that it happens, but I don't think many here will be surprised if he doesn't.
-
Those highlights from the Elimination Final go along way to show how much we missed him this season. Played a key role in both finals wins and in the month leading up as well. Can't wait to see him fit and back out there. He'll be like a new recruit in 2020.

Not only that, but he was very highly rated as a junior, with some scouts believing he wouldn't be out of place as the first pick in the draft. It's not as if we picked him from obscurity, or he was projected to go in the second round. Melbourne fans love the self flagellation of looking at who we could have selected in drafts. It's pointless.

And you run the risk of chasing him and then having him re-sign with GWS. I know some might say that he is worth the risk, but then we've missed out on others who could potentially help to improve our side. If we asked the question and he legit seemed keen, then I'd be happy to go all in for him. But it's never as easy as that. -
My thought was that, as soon as I saw he was delisted, there would be a thread about him on Demonland. No from me.

Like Corio and the Bollards down at the beach?
-
Maybe, but with Danger, Selwood and Hawkins all getting into their twilight years, I'm hoping they fall off a cliff very soon.
-
The bloke had some serious personal issues (I won't put them in here as it might not be appropriate) and he needed to get out of the state. We were no chance of landing him when he decided that he needed a fresh start.
-
Good. That's another one the Cats have missed out on.

Bernie Vince was a sensational pick up for the club. Jeff Garlett was also a ripping get for the club, considering we gave up practically nothing to get him and he had a few 40 goal seasons for us. We gave up a second round pick to get Frost, a third rounder and a fourth rounder, so I'd like to think we won that trade, while letting Dunn go was the right move. He couldn't, and some speculate wouldn't, play in the role we wanted him to down back. The fringe players failing means nothing - he went for some depth in the hope one or two might work out. They didn't. The Ben Kennedy deal was disappointing, true, but you can't get everything right. I'm 50/50 on the Kelly trade - of course I'd rather have him, but Roos had a decision to make at the time. We needed as many players who were ready to go on our list in 2014, and moving back a few places in the draft while also adding Tyson made sense at the time. I can understand why we did it. Again, I'd rather Kelly, but there were legitimate reasons behind the trade. -

But what we've done since 1964 is? You're a funny man, WYL.
