WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - DANIEL CROSS
Wiseblood replied to MadAsHell's topic in Melbourne Demons
Thanks for the summary mate, much appreciated. Sounds like he would be a terrific fit for the club, both on the field and off it with the youngsters and what he is interested in doing once his career is finished. Just need to get it over the line and beat out the others for his services. -
When Morton was playing U/18s he was considered an elite runner by everyone's standards. I still remember some recruiters believing he was well and truly good enough to be the first pick in the draft. He finished up not being up to Hawthorn/Freo/Geelong etc standards due to his commitment and our poor development of him, but he was ALWAYS an elite runner.
-
Martin has re-signed with the Tigers. All over Twitter.
-
The Aish debate will be a non issue in a few weeks as I don't think we'll have pick 2 come draft time. And for the record while I understand the worries re: Aish and his size, but the kid will be a seriously good player and I'd be stoked if we had him on our list.
-
The idea of pick 2 for Shaw and pick 10 was more of an after thought in the article really. The main part was that GWS want Shaw and have someone like Taylor Adams to get it done. Pies would win big time out of that trade and later picks in the draft might be involved but GWS seem keen to add some experience to their list and someone like Shaw fits the bill.
-
In your quickness to have a crack at me you failed to realise that I was not having a go at Rodan and his recruitment at all.
-
Not surprised by the offer as Roos loves Shaw and we have next to no run coming off half back. Culture stuff aside he would be fantastic for us but I wouldn't have thought he would be that interested in playing for the MFC.
-
1 retired due to injury, 1 delisted. But don't let the truth get in the way and all that...
-
I'm actually surprised we haven't heard more from the likes of St. Kilda, Dogs, Carlton etc at least sounding out GWS for that first pick. They could offer their own first rounder plus something good in return for getting it so they can draft Boyd, something those 3 clubs need going forward. That's not to say they haven't done so but Boys would be an excellent fit for a number of clubs and GWS isn't really one of them.
-
Heard quite a few times that the Selwood rumours are not true at all and that he is in line to become the next captain of the Eagles. Don't see this one happening.
-
I think there might be a few people pulling your leg there...
-
No doubt about it. GWS aren't going to give it away for just something decent. If they want to trade that first pick, particularly if they land Franklin and already have Cameron and Patton, then they'll want something sensational in return. Freo would want to try and trade anything but Fyfe though I would have though.
-
Hogan is one tick from the Neeld era, and there aren't many of those.
-
Morabito is a fantastic player but it would be a huge risk putting any sort of pressure or hopes on him with his injury history. I hope the kid makes it but he will need a lot of luck from here. The Fyfe rumour is far fetched, BUT, yesterday showed that Freo are still a key forward short of a premiership. Pavlich is almost done and, outside of Mayne who had a shocker yesterday, they don't have much else. They have made plays for Clark, Riewoldt, Franklin etc and missed out on all of them, so GWS dangling Tom Boyd in front of them isn't outside the realms of possibility. They won't trade Fyfe though.
-
So the club sends the recruiters out there and the FD just has to take who they select with no discussion at all? Ridiculous.
-
it isn't all down to the recruiters though - in the end they don't determine the style of football being played by the club. If they want to go with the running types then that's what they look closely for. To simply blame them for others being overlooked is short sighted at best.

2014 MFC Recruiting Guesses not facts
Wiseblood replied to Whispering_Jack's topic in Melbourne Demons
Oh, I've done my research. I apologise if I'm not as excited about this kid as you seem to be. Viv Michie has played 1 - ONE - senior game of AFL football in three years. He has spent most of this time injured with stress fractures in his right foot. Yes, he played some good footy in the WAFL again before, you guess it, he got injured again. He can find the footy and has good skills but his defensive running still needs some work. I didn't see all of his games this year, only saw a few, but he isn't someone we should be chasing. An injury prone midfielder/forward is something we can do without. And Josh Kennedy didn't win a Brownlow. All Australian and a premiership player, but no brownlow. Michie and Kennedy are two totally different players, so the comparison is a little off. -
You're just making stuff up now. A second rounder and Spencer is what we're offering? GWS would just laugh at that. We will need to do far, far more than that to get close, not to mention convincing Adams to play for us.

That's not lost on me. If the Lions trade Rockliff then they have officially gone right off the deep end.
-
As someone mentioned above he is contracted until the end of 2014.
-
Exactly. I long for the days when I was 18 and can get genuinely excited about a rumour like that, but I just can't do it anymore, ha ha! Rockliff won't be going anywhere.
-
Not knocking your source or rumour but I still can't believe that one. Some would argue Rockliff is their best player and the Lions won't just let him go, even if he has "agreed to terms" with our club. Don't see it happening.
-
I agree with this. Fitzy showed a bit in the second half of the season but to me this has only helped to increase his trade value. More strings to Howe's bow as well and I would like to see how he goes for at least a season under Roos.

Collingwood and Richmond are more 'important' than us at the minute, therefore they get there air time. Doesn't mean we aren't chasing him though. I have no doubt we are in for him, but it might take a bit of luck to land him over the other clubs.

Has he been right on anything before? Anyone can throw any sort of info out there at this time of year as long as it sounds even 5% credible.
