So, where to from here with pick 2?
Wiseblood replied to Whispering_Jack's topic in Melbourne Demons
Why are so many obsessed with getting Jones outside of the fact he is Nathan's brother? I'd rather a Dunstan if he was around at our pick. -
2014 MFC Recruiting Guesses not facts
Wiseblood replied to Whispering_Jack's topic in Melbourne Demons
Plenty of players have a good year in the WAFL, SANFL etc. Doesn't mean he is worth putting on our list. Decent speed and reasonable disposal doesn't fill me with confidence that he will add something to our list. -
He's nowhere near our grasp, and he hasn't been at any stage IMO.
-
The club is just saying we're interested. How interested we really are is anybodies guess. Technically, we could use a classy runner off half back and that's what Shaw is, even if he can be a [censored] at the best of times. Pies would be looking for plenty of compensation though, and I don't want the club to overpay for him as I don't think he is worth more than a mid to late first rounder.

My guess is that this board becomes obsessed with getting Viv Michie, and nobody has any idea why. -
Did Adem Yze do the same thing when Carlton threw heaps of cash at him?

Tambling has talent? Where? I've never seen it, and neither has anybody else.

Could be anything under Roos. I see what you're saying but I'd rather offload a Tapscott or Strauss (who have less currency, I'm aware of that) than let go of Howe now.
-
And also shows how respected, and powerful, Roos is as a coach in the AFL. What Colless did smacks of someone who is [censored] themselves at the prospect of people wanting to leave to play under, or coach with, Paul Roos, and he was desperate to paint him in a bad light. Only made Colless look silly to be honest.

Fair enough - to be honest I'm merely going by much of what you have written above. Seen some clips, read plenty of stuff but nothing more than that. The only assumption I can make is that many believe Kelly will be purely an outside mid, while Aish has the ability to win his own footy as well as being an outside running type as well, something that stands out to me a little more. I just hope that whoever we choose is the right player for our club going forward. -

No, he used the 'out of contract' loophole. -
It's the same everywhere though. If you read opposition forums they do the same - flipping average players off for second rounders or landing a big fish without having to give up a great deal. Part of the reason why people get so upset when a trade goes through and it's not what they wanted, so it looks like a bad deal. Happens every year, as regular as clockwork.

Interested to hear your reasoning for this, as to me Kelly is the sort of player we don't need. Not saying you're wrong by any stretch, just curious. -
$400K IS a lot, but we will need to offer more to beat other clubs to someone like Adams. Even though Roos is on board we still aren't a hugely attractive place to be... yet. I'd rather try and work something out with GWS with Pick #2 to get him, although if they play hard ball then I'd be happy to get him in the PSD.

Josh Mahoney named new football operations boss
Wiseblood replied to Wiseblood's topic in Melbourne Demons
I'd say that would have played a small part. Mahoney would be on considerably less coin than Walsh would be, and if he can do a great job, then the decision is a no brainer. -

It's about time we had some of that luck though.... But to be fair to Mahoney he can't say much else in that situation. Clearly he is doing a terrific job behind the scenes and PJ is impressed with it. Can't argue with that logic really. -
As per the Herald Sun: http://www.heraldsun.com.au/sport/afl/josh-mahoney-is-melbournes-nw-football-operations-boss/story-fni5f91a-1226726391782 Going by the quotes from Jackson a lot changed with the Roos appointment, and Mahoney has done an outstanding job in the role leading up to this point. He will also report to Jackson directly. Backing this appointment as I trust PJ 100%.

Very true, and if Buddy does decide to leave they will have the coin to throw at him, and you would think he would rather play for a premiership contender at his age than GWS. -

Unless GWS convince Mumford to come across, which is a decent chance of happening. GWS would probably be the only club who would take even a quick glance at Jamar, but if they get Mummy then he stays with us. -

Wiseblood replied to Whispering_Jack's topic in Melbourne Demons
If we keep pick 2 I'd like us to look at taking someone like Matt Crouch. The top mids predicted to go early like Aish, Kelly, Billings etc are all the outside type of players and I think we could use an inside player who can rack up the disposals, clearances and tackles than a player on the outside. From what I've seen and read Aish and Kelly, for example, will end up as wingman type players and I think right now we could use more of the inside type, although some may argue that we could find that type in the second round. Rory Sloane is no chance IMO, and Adams seems more keen on a move to a Carlton or Richmond at the minute. Doesn't mean we will miss out as we do have the second pick to play with but we will need to do some serious talking to get some of these guys across. -
Well put, although the logic and sensibility may be lost on C&B.
-
So only finishing inside the top 10 of a BnF once means you will instantly be a rubbish coach? Sound reasoning that.
-
There are plenty of positives - it's just that too many on here want every coach we hire to be some huge name, as if that makes them the perfect candidate. Roos has obviously spoken numerous times with Miller and liked what he saw - it's not as if he just threw a dart out of the window and the first person he hit was hired.
-
Disappointing to see the sniping going on to be honest. Not every person we hire is going to be an automatic home run and I think we can trust Roos to make these decisions. He does have runs on the board. Plus he is only on board as a development coach. He isn't the senior assistant, or even a back, middle or forward line coach. Clearly Miller has some coaching qualities that Roos and the FD can see and have given him an opportunity. It's great to have him back at the club and I hope he is very successful in the role.
