Love everything about this decision. It's the right length in the contract and we've backed a good clubman who could still become a player in our best 22. Terrific stuff from the club.

MATCH PREVIEW AND TEAM SELECTION - Round 9
Wiseblood replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
I hear that Gorgoroth (super band by the way) has completely missed the point. I hate to defend the two of them but clearly them not getting the ball last week didn't hurt as much, and there is so much more to the modern game than getting your hands on the ball. They are only there temporarily anyway, and once guys like Kent and JKH are fit they will play that role better than those two can on a consistent basis. But they did the role Roos gave them last week and, for that reason, they play again this week. -
MATCH PREVIEW AND TEAM SELECTION - Round 9

Good point Scoop. One knock on both Riley and Newton is that they don't have the capacity to really run out a game. Bail and M. Jones are fitter and and have that sort of run and carry that will benefit the side in Alice Springs. That's not a knock necessarily in either Riley or Newton but I get the feeling Roos has selected them for a very specific role. They aren't best 22 players and, I dare say, if Kent and JKH were both fit they would be playing in their roles, but if they are doing the job Roos asks of them then they play while the spots are up for grabs. -
MATCH PREVIEW AND TEAM SELECTION - Round 9

I agree, but they played their role last week as the defensive forward and keep their spots. Those two won't last much longer. Happy with the changes as well, Jetta and Viney instantly make us a better side. Quietly confident about this one as we generally play Port well. -
Totally agree. If it doesn't work out then it's not going to hurt too much, and if it does then we look like champions. Win/win.

If we can get him for the right price and he will be the best available then we go for it. I don't want to do what the Pies have done and pass on guys like James Stewart and Jake Kelly to only see them blossom elsewhere. If he has the potential to be a player and he is there for the right price then I would hope we would jump all over it.

Haven't attacked anyone dc. It's just the way this forum goes. A player who is nominally canned by most plays a good game means he gets a complimentary thread. Watts plays a bad game then he gets his own thread. We get rolled by the Hawks one week and people want Roos sacked, we win the next week and we're praising Jason Taylor and Roos is the messiah again. I know we've been starved of success but there is no need to begin new threads based on one good game. Stick it in the discussion thread. Yes, I'm being pedantic, but we are either too carried away or too critical. Not enough posters actually stick in the middle these days.
-
I have no idea what you mean by that.

While I'm happy for Fitzy to have played a good game, and I'm one of those who has not been a fan in the past, this is the quintessential Demonland thread. A player plays ONE good game and we need a thread showering him with praise as if he's the second coming of Gary Hardeman. Let's wait and see him do it on a consistent basis before we all walk around with erections for the day.
-
Are you another who just looks at stats? Roos stated what should be the obvious in his presser - that he was very happy with him, and that his defensive efforts and spoils were important for the team on the day. Stats only tell a small portion of the story.
-
I said it earlier in the year but he may not see out the year, much like Malcom Blight at the Saints. Different circumstances but, at the minute, the switch from McKenna to Eade has been disastrous. I'll admit that injuries haven't helped but they have played pretty poor football regardless.
-
Just further proof that to many on here over react on an all too regular basis. That goes for both ways as well. Roos has us on the right path, regardless of the bumps along the way.
-
I don't care how well some of them played this weekend - if fit and ready Viney and Jetta are automatic selections. M. Jones, Bail and Riley may have played their roles well, but they aren't the future. We are a better side with those two boys and, unfortunately, someone has to make way. It happens all the time with the better sides and it has to happen here. I'd give Tyson another week and I find it hard to see where Dawes fits into the side. Should be another interesting selection week.

C'mon jnr, not only is this petty but the DE doesn't tell close to the full story. Bail and Jones had very little of the ball and therefore were always going to have a decent DE. Grimes is fair enough but the other two shouldn't be there. If you wanted to make an argument for them then you should have gone with the fact that both kept Murphy and Johannisen very quiet for most of the game. They did great defensive jobs on them, even if they got very little of the pill themselves.
-
Deserves another year on the list for sure if he continues playing this way. IF he decides to hang them up at the end of the year I hope we can keep him at the club in some capacity. He is a terrific role model for the younger fellas and would be a positive influence going forward as part of the coaching staff.

Brayshaw was looking fatigued all night? After pushing on and running the game out with 11 touches in the last quarter I'm making the assumption your idea of fatigue is different to mine.

It's funny you mention that - apparently outside of 1 game we have only played sides within the Top 8. In that context we haven't done too badly to start the season, and we now have a real chance to get some good wins on the board as the year progresses.
-
We do have the fresh legs of Riley up our sleeve and you know he'll go hard for the final 30 minutes. We just need to kick a few goals and not go into our shells and we can win it. Going to be a horrible 30 minutes to sit through though...

Signed! Christian Petracca extends contract until end of 2018.

I would simply to see him try and type his stuff out with only one arm. -
The game passed Lethal by a decade ago. The stuff his churns out has little relevance these days.
-
I'd be bloody pumped if he kept it up in the second half as well. Last thing I want to see is for him to taper off and have a quiet second half.
-
It's Viney.
-
No worries, and yes, when you put it in the context of the one at the top it is a little interesting.
-
He wasn't pictured because he wasn't drafted in the Bailey era. Neeld drafted him.

Hold on Song, haven't you been reading this forum for the last week? Roos should be sacked, our list is beyond horrible and no-one gives a stuff about the jumper! Get with the program pal!
