Saturday Talking Point: The NAB Challenge
Wiseblood replied to Whispering_Jack's topic in Melbourne Demons
Have you got a personal problem with WJ, mate? Seems you follow him around in every thread and analyse every one of his posts. Just an observation. -
Rubbish. I wish him all the best at his new club, just like Fitzpatrick at Hawthorn. I called his game as I saw it, and I'm glad you've changed your tune as well - he was ok, at best.
-
True, although his ability to have little actual impact on the game also typified his time at MFC as well. If I was a Port fan I'd be slightly disappointed that he couldn't have more of an impact in a weakened team. Well outside their best 25 at the moment.
-
I watched the game. He had little impact. I'm not knocking the bloke personally, but he had little influence on the game. I wish him well at Port, but he was far from good today.
-
Grimes. I know they speak of this 'positional change' but it wouldn't surprise me in the slightest to see him line up across half back to begin the season.
-
Hardly. He's been ok, but 13 touches for the entire game is hardly setting the world alight. Will struggle to be best 22.
-
You won't agree, and you'll ask me to elaborate, but Grimes will get a game ahead of Stretch for the time being. Wagner has yet to be promoted either and, while I understand why people are taken with him, he won't get a game either until he plays some very good football in the NAB Cup (providing we give him a game).

Saturday talking point: Intraclub and the State of the List
Wiseblood replied to Whispering_Jack's topic in Melbourne Demons
I hate this argument. I understand the last decade has been tough, but the old 'I've seen it all before' argument doesn't wash with me. If you take 5 minutes to compare the club to now you'll see there is a huge difference... but some, I guess, are too far gone to realise that. -
Saturday talking point: Intraclub and the State of the List

For the first time in, well, probably ever... I agree with you! -
Yep, that too. I guess the point I'm trying to make is that comparing Ablett leaving for GC was over vastly different circumstances than others, and is not a good comparison to be using for someone like Viney (who, for that matter, is going nowhere).

Intraclub Practice Match - Friday 19th February, 2016
Wiseblood replied to Whispering_Jack's topic in Melbourne Demons
Calm your farm Redleg. He hasn't made it... yet. -
No doubt money was a big factor in his move. Nobody would deny that. But the circumstances of his move were much different. Ablett had already won a flag and a Brownlow at Geelong. He had already established himself as the best player in the competition. Then GC came calling. He felt that he had achieved plenty for Geelong and the opportunity to be the face of a brand new franchise, by being it's first captain, and make a truckload of cash was too good to turn down. Money was a large part of the move, but not all of it, and his desire to move on from Geelong was very different as well. For Viney, a lifelong Demon supporter, to move on now is 'ridiculous' to me and many other posters. He bleeds for the jumper and wants to bring sustained success to the club he loves. He won't go anywhere.
-
Not only that, he moved up north to be the face of a brand new football club. His circumstances are vastly different. It's all moot though. Viney won't be going anywhere.
-
Agreed. He's a Demon, through and through.

Intraclub Practice Match - Friday 19th February, 2016
Wiseblood replied to Whispering_Jack's topic in Melbourne Demons
Great reports guys. Good to hear there was nothing out of the ordinary and that many of the players played well... for an intra club, anyway. If Gawn were to go down, and touch all the wood on the planet that he doesn't, I'd be interested to see if we went with Frost as the number 1 ruck. He might lack some height but he is strong enough, quick enough and mobile enough to play the role just as well as a Jake Spencer would. Pedersen could pinch hit a bit as well, or even Dawes. We have options, although I can understand why people believe they don't look that flash. Great to see a few of the second year players kicking on a bit as well, such as Brayshaw and VDB. Looking forward to seeing who we take in the squad to PA in a weeks time. -

Looking forward to hearing about any surprises in terms of positions and that the players get in there and have a crack. Thanks in advance to all those who are able to go and provide some reports on the intra club. -

15 likes hey jnr? Wow, you're moving up in the world of football forums. No doubt you went back to that post, smiled and showed your mum. She would be proud of how well you are posting. An extra dessert for you tomorrow. I'll post what I please by the way. If you don't like that, well, take your own advice. -

You don't honestly believe that, do you? I agree with you far more often than I don't dazzle, but this is going a little far. There is a reason the bloke has barely played for 2 years. He just isn't up to it, let alone a 'pretty handy player'. I was probably a little harsh earlier, although it frustrates me to see people go over the top with their belief of what our players are capable of because they do well at training, but he is not a good AFL player. Certainly not the worst, as we've had plenty over the journey who should never have gotten a game (Isaac Weetra comes to mind), but to suggest he is a pretty handy player is incorrect. -

If Matt Jones and Dean Terlich are even close to our best 22 then we've gone backwards. I don't give a toss what they do at training, they've already proven they aren't capable AFL players in any way, shape or form. It's great they are training the house down, under no pressure, which they've done for years. I'm glad they are having a dip, but if they are anywhere near our side this year (unless we have no choice due to injuries) then every single supporter should be worried. Very worried. -

You had one last year and Matt Jones was a 'lock'. Not surprised that you're not giving one now. Not exactly your strong suit. I like the acquisition of Bugg and think he'll play a role in our side, but, I do agree that his decision making has been questionable at times. I've seen him do some terrific things for GWS and then make an error that you just shake your head at. Hopefully Roos, Goodwin etc. can help to eradicate that from his game as I still believe he will be a positive addition to the side this year. -
DC Cometti to stand his Mic down, end of season.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe Dennis is a Melbourne supporter. -
Before that body slam he fought 3 of them off as well. Then pretty boy Hird comes over looking to get involved and gets duly smashed by the Ox. Love it!
-
If you don't believe he is up to it then that's fine. The discussion around Dawes and his place in the team has been done many, many times. Some like him and believe that, when fit, he is best 22. Others don't. There is nothing wrong with that. But there is no need to pot the bloke and call him a waste of space. It's not necessary.
-
You can see what's going through their minds... "Damn, they're going to kick our arse this year...."
