    Company line? Please. An opinion is not hiding behind a thing - Garland deserves to be part of the LG, a point I've gone over numerous times, and the club feels the same way. I can't make that any clearer for you.

    Fat chance of that happening Stuie. We could have a win where Grimes dominates and he'll still find fault with something like the colour of his football boots or how he was too intense in the huddle at quarter time.

    You're fantastic at posting quantity over quality BA. Garland's in the LG. The players and coaching staff hold him in high regard, as do most supporters as well. You can post paragraph after paragraph about, but it doesn't make a lick of difference. Here's to another good year for Col.

    Who knows about Grimes. All I know is that he was co-captain, then in the LG, then not over the course of 3 seasons. Rather than strip him and move him out of the LG, Roos and co. have treated that transition with respect. Nothing wrong with that. He is getting a game because he plays his role. If everyone's job is to influence the game then he clearly does it, as he consistently is able to beat his opposition man. I would think there are only a few times a year when he has multiple goals kicked on him. But we're going over old ground. He is in the LG and I'll take the clubs perspective of him over yours every day of the week.

    Of course I'll back the coaches in. It's not a safe stance, it's the truth. They are paid to do it and I have no idea what goes on behind the scenes or what the instructions are on match day. If you can pull up the stats on Garland getting beaten by a small forward then go for it. I think it's rare that I walk away from a game feeling like he was beaten defensively. He might make the odd mistake or miss a target but then I can forgive him for that. Garland's job isn't to influence the result of a game - it's to shut down his man. He does that regularly with minimal fuss or fanfare. It's clearly what the players and coaches respect about him, as do I. As I mentioned above as well Grimes has been slowly shifted out of the leadership group after being captain. He has gone from co-captain, to leadership group and then to just being part of the team. They've treated that transition with respect.

    Which is something Garland is in the eyes on the coaches and the players if they have selected him in the LG - he is obviously terrific off the field and plays his role as asked on the field as well. Yes, he makes the odd error, but clearly he is doing plenty right in the eyes of the coaches. I trust my own eyes, and I think you need to trust yours - the Garland detractors on here have blinded you to what he brings to our side. And Garland is not a 'substandard' player and I think it's pretty low of you to suggest as such. Poor form Curry.

    Well the 2 injured is a problem - if they can't get on the park then they can't be the leaders the club wants them to be. Grimes was captain when Roos arrived and they have slowly pushed him down the pecking order and treating him with respect. Kicking him out of the captaincy and out of the LG would have been a huge mistake so they've done the right thing. And while Cross has been terrific for us it was time for him to go. He is still being a leader as a fitness coach with the players. That leaves Dunn. Hopefully the LG now stays the same as we have a settled and talented group of players. I'm sure one or two will drop off here and there but I can see guys like Jones, Viney and McDonald being there long term.

    One retired, 2 have spent the off season injured, one was there before they came and Dunn is the other. Mostly out of their control, but nice try.

    If he was such a liability in the eyes of the coaches and the players then he wouldn't be selected. I'll trust Roos, Goodwin, Macca and the players on this one. Good to see him straight back in the LG.

    10 years ago that was our idea of a formidable midfield. How times, and our expectations, have changed. Also - take note of the person at training who labelled Juice Newton as the next Neitz. At least our ability to go right over the top hasn't changed in a decade. And yes, I'm bored and went back a few years. Sue me!

    The "sodd off then" part of the thread title is unnecessary. At no point in the article did Watts say he wanted to leave and, in fact, spoke very strongly about staying. The article title might have been misleading but BA gives the impression that Watts wants out, which is totally untrue.

    It's interesting that the AFL site went with that headline, as the HUN, which loves to go over the top, went with the fact that Watts wants to remain a Demon for life as the headline. Different strokes for different folks, I guess.

    Nothing in it. Mentions he will look at all options but is pretty clear about his intent and desire to remain with the club. Good on him too. Tom McDonald should take some notes about that kind of loyalty when in a contract year. Get behind the club son, you won't regret it!

    I still remember an article from the Sun that had him riding a bike and talking about the 'miracle' recovery from the knee injury. It was ridiculous to come back so soon but 20 years ago they didn't seem to know much better. It always takes one mistake to change the landscape, and with knee injuries it was what happened with Schwarz that did it.

    This is all you need to know mate. He was my favourite player before the Wiz took that mantle. The bloke was almost unstoppable in 1994 and, while I might be biased, he could have been on par with Carey if his knees held up. Unbelievable agility, great pair of hands, high footy IQ and a great kick for goal. The bloke had it all. Edit - Watch his goal from around the 4:35 mark. It's vintage Ox.

    We can only hope mate! I reckon Petracca might have to wait another week but Trengove might be a real possibility of getting a half of football in.

    The games they played last season shows they were regular players for the Dogs side in 2015. I'm not digging myself out of a hole, the point Ralphy made is pretty much spot on. 11 players were regulars last season, which is clearly what he was getting at. It might not be the dozen he said but you can't get much closer than that. You, in all your smug and arrogant glory, disregarded it before thinking a little more deeply about it. The point is that there were still regular senior players out there on the weekend. Of course it wasn't their best side, but the players were there. End of story.

    Let's have a look at some games played Tom Boyd - 14 Lin Jong - 13 Jack Redpath - 12 Caleb Daniel - 10 Bailey Dale - 10 Joel Hamling - 11 Will Minson - 10 Jordan Roughead - 16 Mitch Honeychurch - 11 Fletcher Roberts - 12 Lukas Webb - 10 Tom Campbell - 6 Nathan Hrovat - 7 I've named 13 there, with the bottom 2 who could probably not be regarded as regular starters. So 11 guys played at least double digit games, which means they got a regular gig last year I would have thought. Back in your hole now, son.

    If you want to argue semantics then go right ahead. But there is a list of blokes who played their fair share of senior footy last year.

    Lin Jong Mitch Honeychurch Tom Liberatore (prior to the knee injury) Jordan Roughead Caleb Daniel Tom Campbell Jack Redpath Will Minson Joel Hamling Fletcher Roberts Tom Boyd (not really counting him though, but he did play senior footy) That's 11 players who played at least a few games of senior footy last year. May not be a dozen but it's pretty close. Edit - You can add Nathan Hrovat to that list as well.

    He does look good, but the NAB Cup press conferences haven't exactly put him under the pump with 'hard' questions. Winning games means he has had things pretty easy, so I think we need to assess him once he coaches a loss or two. Having said that he has done a terrific job so far.
