If he is not the answer, nor the future, then he isn't worth recruiting. He won't do any better than Dawes or Pedo, he'll probably just do much of the same job really.

This is the key point that some seem to be glossing over as well. If they are happy to see T Mac go, who is the direct replacement? Not Frost or O Mac. Neither have shown they are capable. If it doesn't end up being Hurley, can we entice, as you mentioned, a Sam Day down to play for us? If not then there doesn't seem to be a great deal of quality on offer. Clubs tend to hang on to KP players as much as they can. It will be interesting to see what unfolds over the next month or two in regards to his contract.

Nice, condescending finish from you there BA. Well done. Outside of his 6 goals, what has Majak done to show that he is ready to consistently be a forward/ruckman in an AFL side? The Norf supporters I know constantly knock him and say how his tank is horrible and he never gets to enough contests. He goes missing in games and doesn't have too much impact. If he was THAT good then he would have pushed someone out of their side by now, but they brought in Waite and Ben Brown went straight past him in the pecking order. Not worth it IMO. Not enough quality for us going forward.

It's the same love people have for him as a forward - he is quick, tall, athletic and a good size. He has shown that, at the moment, he doesn't have the greatest footy brain and he is only an average kick and mark of the footy. I'd love him to develop into a good key back, and I think he has the potential to do it, but he is in the same boat as OMac to me.

Why is everyone going overboard about Frost playing in the backline? He hasn't played there at all for us, so why do so many believe he will suddenly be the answer? He's proven nothing, and potentially relying on that is a very dangerous game to play.

The potential to lose McDonald is not a good thing. Any supporter who tries to say it is, or that we can cover him easily, are kidding themselves. However, if he wants to hold us over a barrel then I applaud the club for standing firm. They know how tough it is to keep everyone under the salary cap, and if we have offered him a fair deal until 2020 (that is still speculation though) then it is disappointing to see him considering his options and not signing straight away. I still think he will be here next year, but when so many others are happy to get behind the club, it's not good to see a leader take his time to commit. If he did go, then I think a backline of Dunn, Garland and Frost can generally get the job done with OMac waiting in the wings. You would think that if things went pear shaped with Tom then we would be in the hunt for at least an experienced key back, whether that be Hurley or we look to the VFL/State leagues and try and find a diamond in the rough like Marcus Adams. What we do need to get behind is the club - they are taking a tough stance and not allowing the players to dictate our future, and that can only be a good thing. We can't just bow down to their every whim and, potentially, put our future in jeopardy.

I wouldn't say emotional investment, more that you've mentioned 4 players who aren't worth giving up on yet. Hunt, Salem and Kent have spent the majority of the year in the seniors, while ANB has been on fire at Casey. I do see your point, but I'm not so sure he is the guy to fill that gap in the side.

We might be, but I don't think Daw is the answer, and all of the above trades would be overs for him. We would be able to find something elsewhere I think.

Pickett was around (I think it was he debut season) in 1998 when Tingay was still playing. It was only a year but they would certainly have crossed paths, especially in the '98 Prelim.

It was discussed in another thread, but the thyroid issue has flared up again as you mentioned, but they are uncertain as to how long he will miss. It could be 4 weeks, it could be 6 months. I think the club are just waiting on more information before they go ahead with any treatment.

He certainly walked a fine line, jumbo. Some of his hits were legitimately good ones, while others weren't all that flash. He was at his best when he was fit and hitting legal, crunching tackles that not only put the opposition on the back foot but also made our players walk a little taller as well. He only had a couple of good years for us but I do remember that, in one of those years, he had a blistering run of form where he was a difference maker in a number of games. It was just a shame we got him at the tail end of his career.

You're probably right there, but at the same time if any of them drop off for even a minute then we have plenty of guys at Casey who are primed to take their spot. Trengove is just one who springs to mind, so if Harmes, for example, has a few quiet weeks then he'll lose his spot pretty quickly. I'm not saying that will happen as all 3 you've mentioned have been great, but the pressure is on from below and that can only be a good thing.

Well said Cards. He is just the sort of player you want on your list - never drops his head and works hard to make himself better. It shows on the football field and he is rarely beaten. A bonus is also the fact this his disposal is quite good, too. He rarely misses a target.

I think you've summed it up pretty well P-Man. Nice job. One thing that others have mentioned is that our new found depth means the make up of our 'best 22' could differ considerably, which is a good thing. Does someone like Stretch, who has come on much quicker than we expected, continue to keep Trengove out of the side? Do Kent, Kennedy and Garlett and our midfield keep someone like VDB at Casey for a while? It's a great position to be in.

And when you think about how bad we've been, you can see that Gerard has been right for most of that time. He's right on Tom, too. It would send an even bigger signal of the faith in the club if he signed up for another 3-4 years.
