  1. Just being a touch pedantic, aren't we?
  2. I'm certainly not suggesting you did, as I thought he did quite well in a variety of situations (and got his hands on the pill 17 times). There is plenty to work with for sure, but in my opinion he still needs to learn more of the craft at Casey where he is away from the spotlight. I still think he has a bright future at the club.
  3. I think what most are arguing is not that they expect them to come in and be the finished product, but more that he has been promoted to the seniors before he is ready. I don't think he was all that bad yesterday, although there were a few jittery moments in one on one situations. I think may are being quite critical of our back line at the minute and not seeing the bigger picture - we are playing things very differently and these things take a little time. Generally our back line win or break even in the contest, but are caught out when teams beat our press and they have an extra player or two free up the ground. It makes things very hard when that happens and it's easy to pot the back half, but it doesn't entirely sit with them.
  4. The OP was not a legitimate assessment. Picket never makes those. But I agree that most have merely commented that he isn't ready which, based on yesterday's performance, would be correct. There is no reason why Dunn couldn't come in and play that role with more confidence in the coming weeks than what OMac has. It doesn't mean the kid won't make it, he just needs a little more time to develop away from the spotlight.
  5. That's football, though, and that's the great position our club is finally in. Newton certainly showed that he has begun to improve his tank and his disposal by foot is good too, but Tyson has the runs on the board and he was only brought in as an emergency. He'll be stiff, but Tyson has to play. For Newton it means that he knows he is right on the cusp of selection, and with others also breathing down his neck (Salem, VDB, Trengove, Grimes etc) it means that he needs to keep up this terrific form so he is first pick the next time someone loses form or goes down with injury. It's a great spot for us, as a club, to be in.
  6. You might be right, but 3 of those goals were in junk time and he missed plenty of targets.
  7. Whilst I agree that, in the third term, the Lions could have put more scoreboard pressure on, we could well have done the same in the first when we had 11 scoring shots and only kicked 5 goals. Had we kicked a few of those shots and been 8.3 at quarter time then the contest is probably already over. Not arguing about the third term, just saying it well and truly works both ways.
  8. Heath Shaw with a lazy 36 kicks today. The bloke is on fire at the moment.
  9. He said there would be 3-4 changes - Jetta and Tyson would be two, plus Roos said Trengove, Grimes, VDB and Dawes were all pushing for selection as well. Very interesting to see what we do at the selection table this week.
  10. Our boys noticed very early too and Jones, in particular, gave him lip for the rest of the day. I counted 6 head high free kicks from him dropping the knees and throwing his head back. No idea why umps get sucked in either. It's staging in it's purest form.
  11. To me, we held them at arms length. We looked good in patches, moved the ball well and kicked 10 goals. On the flip side you could argue that our backline is still a work in progress, and when we turned it over they were able to get some easy goals out the back. We could have been 7 goals up at half time but we allowed Tom Bell, of all people, to kick 2 in a minute. Nowhere near as bad as some spoke about here, though. We never really looked in any trouble, we just allowed ourselves to get dragged down to their level a bit.
  12. Fair suck of the old football picket. He might not have had a great day, but he's a KPP in his second year. Might need to spend some time at Casey but way, way, way too early to say he isn't AFL standard.
  13. Played some good footy, played some poor footy, and we won by 10 goals, which is something I think most of us hoped we would achieved. Plenty to like about today - Petracca and Stretch were fantastic, Hogan kicks 5, we still kicked 19 goals without Gawn giving us first use in the middle like he has in previous weeks, ANB and Newton were solid, and we got some good games from Watts, Jones, Vince and Viney, without any of them dominating. We still need to fix up the back half, but that's how we set up, not necessarily the personnel down there, O Mac aside, who does look a little raw. Enjoy our second 10 goal win of the year boys! 5-4 and still in touch with the 8!
  14. For all the poor footy we just served up, we are still 7 goals clear. Good opportunity to kick another 20 goals and have a 12 goal win. Agree with Jaded, Stretch has been super!

  16. If you listen to the usual's then, yes, but you know better Nasher.
  17. Rhys "I've watched Luke Shuey drop the shoulder" Mathieson - every time he gets it he tries to fall to his knees.
  18. Great stuff for Viv! First goal in AFL footy!
  19. I'm not sure its showboating - I think he is trying to do the team thing but it doesn't come off. He did the same thing when he handpassed it off in the first term when he had a shot from 50.
  20. Made that look harder than it needed to be, but still, it's a goal.
  21. The Lions do one thing well - dropping the shoulder. Gawn gets his hands chopped and gets nothing.
