Debt Demolition - is it the time right for round 2?
QueenC replied to Salems Lot's topic in Melbourne Demons
Oh yeah that has been going for a while now, but it is still a continual source for cash. -
You could try here Nugget...... http://www.gettyimages.com.au/Search/Searc...t=Brad%20Green#

Maybe a few could stop relishing another players injuries.......
-
Maybe a little cynical HT ...... I think that she wanted to have a baby and get married, easy to do one while on tour, not so easy with the other. I hope she does really well, but I think that, like Davenport before her there is nothing to prove and she can just play because she loves the sport.

Membership to an NRL team is a very new concept....... I think, but don't quote me, that it has only been in place for the last four to five years as an absolute option. 100 000 members is therefore pretty damn good, also factoring in that we up here don't really join stuff with the venom of you guys down there!!!

Debt Demolition - is it the time right for round 2?

Yeah, I got that phone call yesterday!!! -
......Or the Brownlow !!!
-
Well I hope they get the numbers to justify the move and while I understand why the NRL do it (I am not a fool HT), it is a betrayal of the supporters up here. Now you can argue that it is about getting a stronger foothold in the Victorian market and that is perfectly valid and true, but I will ask at what expense? Queensland lose a game they should have had, and the stadium will be filled mostly with either ex-pat northerners or fans flying down for the event. The Storm have a wonderfully loyal supporter base, but it is not a big supporter base (hard to be given the AFL stronghold) and while I know (and I have worked for the NRL) about their commitment to expanding into a very foreign territory in Melbourne, the Storm could not exist if it was not completely paid for by News Limited. They don't make enough money from your support to stand on their own. I know that the re-location of the State of Origin to Melbourne is a way of trying to garner more interest in the sport south of the border, but it is a hell of a sacrifice for us. And it is still NSW v Queensland, and neither fan group will get to see one of these beloved games live this year.

Don't be Red, it is our un/fortunate reality !!!
-
Believe me they really don't ..... It would be like shifting a prelim or something to either Sydney or Brisbane just because NSW or QLD paid for it and the AFL want to expand the game. No one has to understand that, especially not the team or fans of that team that is getting their legitimate home game taken away to a place, no offence that really doesn't care. Well maybe you guys down there care a little, but not nearly as much as we do. I understand the expansion talk I really do (although it's a bit mute given the impact the Storm really have). But that doesn't mean we have to like or be understanding about the selling off NSW v QLD games interstate, sorry.

Actually the NRL ad is not too bad, but had to be altered a fair amount given the unfortunate Stewart happenings, but the concept was actually pretty good, given it was kids growing up to play the sport they love and becoming the men who win the grand finals. All about the grass roots. The thing will never compare to Tina Turner but still the best executed ad for quite a while. The gladiator one with Docklands is nothing but a State of Origin ad, it isn't selling the comp per-say, and is there only to remind everyone that we have lost another game south of the border. I can't imagine the Queenslanders will be too impressed given it was their turn in the two out three home town rotation. But I guess money talks and Victoria has paid plenty for it. But again the ad itself is not so bad with the concept of modern gladiators, but I will grant you that Etihad stadium is no Coliseum. but for the NRL in Melbourne its just going to have to do!!! And I actually quite like the AFL commercial, some of the sections are excellent some a bit slow but all in all a pretty good ad, apart from the song which doesn't quite work for me.

Number of wins: 4 Average losing margin: 25-35 points Average winning margin: 10 points B&F top 3: 1. Green 2. McLean 3. Garland Leading goal-kicker: Miller (40'ish goals) All Australian representatives: None (this year but there could be a few on the way) Top votes at the Brownlow: McLean or Green Best first year player: Spencer Breakthrough year (first-year players do not count): Grimes (hopefully) or Petterd or Maric (hedging my bets) Disappointment of the year: Robertson breaking down again mid season and having to retire. Biggest area of improvement: Sticking the tackles & playing until the end of a match Surprise packet of 2009: Buckley (all fingers crossed here) Headline of the year: The Demons Reversal of Fortune - How Baileys babies begin a dynasty Best win of the year: Queens Birthday v Collingwood Worst loss of the year: Geelong Final membership numbers: 32 000'ish And just for fun... Number of times Bailey will use the word 'competitive' in 2009: 250 (not counting what he has already said) Number of games until Rivers and Moloney both break down with injuries: 12 (but we pray for more, many, many more) Number of weeks until Sylvia makes headlines for being a tool again: 5 (but we can hope for never, right?) Number of weeks suspension served by Spencer for whacking someone on debut: 0 (reprimand which will come back to bite him later) Number of times Aussie does the 'frog leap' in 2009: 22 Number of "when is Jack Watts going to debut?" threads on Demonland: Too many!!!

I would have thought anything over 30 000 would be a pretty good result...... So hopefully we can pull something in the 35 000+ vicinity. I'm not holding my breath on that kind of figure, but we can always hope!!!
-
Well we did ours a little while ago, and we also signed up my Essendon supporting brother and his Sydney supporting girlfriend......
-
Well said Jaded and I completely concur...... Congratulations and thank you Andrew on achieving such a magnificent and important result. We, the supporters and I assume the club, are all very grateful to you for your brilliant attitude, for-thought and loyalty. You should be very proud of your achievement and hopefully the association between The Dees and Kaspersky will be a long and successful one.

Yeah but he's not entirely wrong......unfortunately!!!
-
Never a bad thing......
-
Ahh YM, what would we do without you putting the mockers on us every week ........ But even for you this list of players is just a little to driven by personal agenda with your head in the clouds, don't you think? But what do we expect really? Keep up the work my friend, we all just wish that scoreline you predicted will be right!!!

Cheers H !!! And isn't it about $5.1 million for three years? I'm pretty sure I read that in here somewhere.

Excellent post Jack (hopefully this will be read and paid attention to all)...... And could someone please tell me what Demetriou actually said yesterday? I have not seen any quotes or opinions from him regarding our current sponsorship (and overall financial) situation, and new deals, and I am interested (to my surprise) to actually see what he has to say now that we seem to be meeting the AFL's requirements. Thanks in advance.

Thanks Jarka .....

Cheers C84 !!!
