  1. There are going to be individual players who don't want to go to Cranbourne, and who don't want to travel 45 minutes each way to training. Much as the crows said it is difficult to entice players to SA because they would rather live in Melbourne than Adelaide. These are facts, and location and travel are valid employment decisions irrespective of the industry in which you work. Casey scorp is right though, in terms of what is right in the long term. Casey represents an important potential mostly untapped market that the demons would be negligent if they didn't try to exploit (and I mean exploit in the positive sense).
  2. Possibly because it offers him his best chance of coming back to Victoria on the amount of money (spread over 3-4 years) that he wants to be paid in what is likely to be his last major contract. It may be that locality is far more important than choice of club. Lots of speculation there..... B)
  3. I don't have a problem with any of that, but supporters having a go at players who have no reason to show any loyalty to Melbourne for accepting a better offer is ridiculous. With Prismall for example, why would he accept $200k a year if he's being offered $300k? I know what I'd choose.....
  4. Sounds like a sensible position from both the club and the player.
  5. Saw that same thing written and shot-down on Big Footy. He has been offered $1.1m over 3 years already by the demons. He may be worth a second rounder, but a better one than Collingwood's. At worst, it would be pick 29 plus...
  6. It is merely an estimate of approximate value in terms of the draft. Both the ones I mentioned are probably best (realistic) case scenarios though. For instance, if Ross Lyon wants to get rid of Nick Dal Santo and we wanted him, I'd try for say pick 35 and Green and see how that went, because Dal Santo would be worth a higher draft pick than Green.
  7. I think Davey could get a pick around 10-15 and Green possibly 15-20 provided they met the trading club's particular needs. Other than that I agree. We have nothing (save Cale Morton and our no.1 draft pick) that clubs would be interested in taking a package for pick 4. If we want a PA pick, 22 is the one to go for.
  8. No good for us but if they don't get Cousins, the saints would pounce on him in a heartbeat.
  9. I'm not sure it's even possible to trade a rookie who's being uplifted to the senior list. With the state of Melbourne's list, I think the only reasonable possibility of getting a top 10 pick is Green or Davey plus pick 19. Not worth it. Would much rather look at getting more in the top 25 than shifting picks from top 20 to (late) top 10.
  10. Well....... 25 years old - game over. You do realise that it's not uncommon for decent full backs to play a handy role into at least their early 30s don't you?
  11. I agree. I've always thought he would be a difficult matchup due to his height, while best using his kicking penetration between the two 50m arcs. Still doesn't seem to relish body contact enough for a defender to my mind.
  12. Collingwood's major sponsor pays about $1.4m per year. I would be very surprised if any other lower-tier sponsors tipped in seven figures. Melbourne's major sponsorship would be worth significantly less than that. I believe the iPrimus deal was worth about $1m a year.
  13. Would take the first one. I rate Stanton and he's shown he can not only get the ball but can kick goals from midfield. Have real doubts over Davey's ability to become a good midfielder, and his consistency. Wouldn't touch the second though. Doesn't seem to be an upgrade and the defence is probably an area where the more stable we can make it, the better.
  14. If he's worth a first round pick, he's worth a three year contract. He'll also only be 30 in the last year of a three year contract.
  15. Therein lies one major difference to the Judd situation. The only club that could put that sort of pressure on Carlton last year was Richmond, and they chose not to. That and because, behind closed doors, I suspect West Coast were pretty happy with what they ended up with out of that trade as no-one was going to give more. I doubt also that Warnock yet has the credibility in the footy world to pick and choose where he wants to go as Judd could, particularly if he's making statements about doing the right thing by Fremantle. Depending on what Kerr does as well, Warnock's view will be irrelevant if Carlton aren't in the ballpark for a trade. I strongly suspect it will take pick 17 or 19 to get this over the line though, not the 3rd (or later) round pick some have been suggesting on here.
  16. To be brutally honest, if we want him enough, we should be able to get him. Whatever Carlton put on the table to Freo, we should be able to match or better given our draft positions. For personal terms, there should also be no issue in bettering any financial deal that Carlton put on the table as well. Particularly given the exodus of some upper echelon wage earners this year. I suspect that any preference he has for a given club would be relatively slight and easily translated into cash form. If we want him enough.
  17. I think the injury status of players is very much a matter of public (read "supporter") interest.
  18. Seconded. The "How the demons fared" part of your match reports was one of the main reasons I started reading this site.
  19. Wheatley and pick 35 for Hawthorn's pick 15? Ambitious but Clarkson has shown a desire for experienced, long kicking wingmen/flankers. May need him, particularly when Stuart Dew's shins finally stop defying the laws of physics...... Green and Wheatley for pick 15 is over-valueing that pick in my view.
  20. He's a bit different than what NM have, and if they were interested, I suspect it would be more to take Shannon Grant's role as a dangerous marking mid sized forward. Given the comments from the roos after the last couple of days though, I think they realise they are a bit far away to try that on though. I tend to think that an extra pick around the 14-22 range would be of more value than getting a pick around 10ish at the expense of a good player and a top 20 pick. Particularly if (as I have read) the draft quality is strong up until about 25.
  21. I don't know - Shane Wakelin was de-listed from St Kilda (dead last) in 2000 and drafted by Collingwood (2nd last) in the National Draft at the end of that year. Would be pretty harsh (and unfair imo) to say he hasn't been a very good player over the last 8 years.
  22. Welcome to the world of the under 26 year team. No decent 27 or older player, other than one who is on the fringe or looking seriously at retirement would agree to that. I reckon you would also have to ban supporters saying "he bleeds red and blue" or "plays for the guernsey" if that was the club's rule.
  23. I reckon Aaron Davey would, particularly for a team like Sydney or Adelaide which desperately lack quality crumbing forwards. There may be some others, but only if packaged with a draft pick so that it is more of an upgrade rather than a straight extra pick.
  24. Absolutely Obviously rookies don't get two year contracts when they are uplifted permanently.
  25. Broken record time here Nasher.... Grimey's debut Quote from the article: "As the club farewells stalwarts Jeff White and Adem Yze - and is expected to delist Nathan Carroll and big man Ben Holland - Dean Bailey's youth plan continues with the introduction of Grimes."
