WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - JACK VINEY
45HG replied to einstein251's topic in Melbourne Demons
If Mitch Clark played 22 games for the MFC this season, we wouldn't be having this discussion. We'd have won at least 2 more games (St Kilda early in the year, Port in Darwin and Freo at the Dome as the candidates in my mind) and finished above Port and the Dogs. Our draft picks (as they stand at the moment) would be 6 and 7 and it wouldn't even be a question that we'd be taking him early. I'll just be happy when it's done - hopefully for a second rounder! -

I agree. I think GC or GWS will nominate simply for the fact that we're pretty transparently going to select him wherever we need to. I'm preparing myself for tomorrow when I hear that they've nominated him and we take him at 3 and move on. Hoping, of course, that they won't bid - but not expecting it. -
"And they skip away" - Bruce McAvaney invariably after a team kicks the third goal of the game. "Can he? You bet he can... Magical... Not in your wildest dreams... Only in your widlest dreams... Amazing...Insert other annoyingly, suddenly screamed out Dwayne Russelism here."

Why do people get so worked up about this situation when they have no idea how it works? Bring on 10:05, Monday morning! -
The Hawks have already put one player on the list.

I believe he's already been nominated. I think it'll be draft order to see who wants to bid for him(?). Fingers crossed it won't be one of the first two teams! -
As with everyone else, I obviously love his attack and his tenacity. However, he simply must improve his disposal if he's going to be a key member of the team moving forward.

...? What? -
I shied away from including that in my post, lest I brought about an old argument...

If a few middle players can add together to equal a "good pick" we'll have to revisit a whole heap of "rubbish trades" suggested by D'landers over the years. Petterd, Bate, Dunn, Bennell, Jurrah and Pick 52 for Tippett?
-
Maybe Mike will need to increase his ratings to a top 700?
-
St Louis win the first "one-game playoff" at Atlanta in a highly controversial game with an in field fly ruled in the 8th with Atlanta trying to rally back. Mind you, if your team has an unlucky loss and you respond by throwing rubbish onto the field, you don't deserve the win as a fan in the first place IMO - especially onto your own field!

Should We Trade Colin Sylvia Before he becomes Free Agent
45HG replied to ashdemons22's topic in Melbourne Demons
For mine, Sylvia falls into the "what we'd possibly get in a trade isn't worth what he may produce" category. -
Article here. Interesting decision - good on him for pursuing what he really wants. I suppose it's funny, you assume that every young player who gets drafted loves playing and would want to play for as long as possible. Though, being a Melbourne supporter, we've probably seen a few who don't put in the amount of work that players at other clubs do. Good luck to him.

Colin Sylvia should play in the middle for the MFC in 2013. -
Kent Kingsley, perhaps?
-
Huh? In Ben Warren's career he played Melbourne twice for a total of 2 goals - one in each game.

I think you're thinking of the old version of the F/S rule. The new F/S rule is designed so that clubs don't pay "unders" for a F/S selection (see Geelong as evidence of that practice). -
The caller should've called in and asked Denham to name Melbourne's senior players. Let alone the ones "wanting to leave"!
-
Yep - just fell in a heap. 3-11 at the home stretch. Killed us. We did well to be in that position but lost form at the wrong moment, didn't deserve to make the playoffs as a result. Pumped for Oakland (as much because I dislike Texas). 12 games back at the end of June - head of their division for one game and it's the end of game 162. Amazing. Oakland - The Anti-White Sox.
-
No mention of Miguel Cabrera? Really? First bloke in 45 years to win the triple crown, 15th of all time. Amazing achievement and has been pretty exciting to follow in recent weeks.

That's the bit that, I thought, made it convincing. -

What situation would backfire? I repeat (because you must have missed it) the only way Jack Viney will not be on our list next season is if another team bids for him and we do not select him. That has nothing to do with strategic talks in the media pre-draft - it would be a list management decision. -

No, that's not the reason you can't name one. Try again.
