  1. Are you now confessing to a drinking problem? (I reckon most of us here ought to have a drinking problem.)
  2. Where do you need to move for us to win the flag? I'll get on realestate dot com for you.
  3. The NFL is not signed to WADA for one very good reason: they know what would happen if they were. You may recall a spate of steroid scandals in major league baseball. Nothing compared to what goes on in the NFL.
  4. I think the colours are trademarked but I am happy to be corrected. But there is absolutely no doubt the AFL would heavy the oppo regardless.
  5. TBH I'm not sure about the colours. I've heard of the AFL shutting down sales of such stuff.
  6. The AFL applied for and got the trademarks for all those things. Save for a few sporting clubs that got in first. EG. AFL own "Collingwood Football Club", "Collingwood Magpies Football Club", "Collingwood Football Club Est 1892" and lots of other variations. They also own just "Magpies". But they don't own "Western Suburbs Magpies" (a rugby league club). My understanding is that the various far flung clubs that never asserted any trademark miss out. The AFL own them now. But the AFL, out of the goodness of their heart, do not assert their legal rights over clubs that had already been using the names, logos, etc. Wangaratta Magpies for instance. It's a "grandfathering" de facto lets-all-be-nice-about-this agreement. (I think.) But I believe the AFL do get to vet the names, logos, etc of new clubs in an AFL-affiliated competition (which is most if not all?) and get the final say. If you're good and don't abuse it or try to make money off it then they will let you be. Otherwise woe betide ...
  7. Except for that little word "easily" .... The AFL holds all the rights for the existing club names, nicknames, logos, colours, etc. The Collingwood Magpies with black and white prison stripes playing out of Shanghai isn't going to happen. Nor the Shanghai Magpies nor any club with black and white stripes. Who would you follow in World Series Aussie Rules? I can't get excited about the Melbourne Stars or any 20-20 team. Same for the Chennai Satellites or whatever the hell they're called. Barracking for an Aussie Rules "Macau Rebels" or "Beijing Pirates" or "Canberra Blow-ins" isn't very appealing.
  8. I take your point, but this is not like a normal job. If you're applying for a job at a supermarket, or an architects, or in a retail store, or at the council, the employer doesn't have to worry about your behaviour and its ramifications in terms of sponsorships and memberships and the like. One of the points that came out when the Carlisle video came out was that he was on "annual leave". As if that's something that footballers get like normal plebs like most of us. As if a footballer can apply for leave any time he's "accrued" enough days. Say in August or September. Of course it doesn't work that way and the footballer structures his life around the football season and football club. For better or worse. There are lots of things different about the footballing vocation that is unlike nearly every other vocation and the same rules do not apply.
  9. Yes. But the deception involved means the transaction was not carried out in good faith. You could argue, if St Kilda are too stupid to work out there's a problem then too bad for them. Recall when Richmond worked out Trengove had a dodgy foot. Good for them. But it's a bit hard for St Kilda to do their due diligence when information is being hidden from them.
  10. But they're still screwed because Bud's passed on.
  11. Broadly, the journos don't know, don't care, and aren't motivated to find out. Caro goes hunting out gossip and scandal and the others wait for something to drop in their lap. They instantly conclude that something dull like this Essendon fairy tale press release doesn't warrant anything other than verbatim regurgitation in their august journal.
  12. I was wondering if the player manager would be deregistered. But after reading the article I wonder what sanction should be levelled at the PA. It's great that they look after the players' interests, but at any cost? Where's the line? The player has dodged a strike, St Kilda served a lemon, and the game has most definitely been brought into disrepute. In fact it looks [censored] foolish.
  13. Ha ha ha! Suck on that, Eddie!
  14. So while we're all trying not to kill ourselves from boredom, when's the national draft?
  15. adepto manum tuam longe fac eam
  16. How did THAT get past the demonland censor?
  17. In my defence, I can only offer that I learned all my Latin from "Life of Brian".
  18. For some cheap laughs, put some phrases through google translate (any language) and then translate them back into English.
  19. Scullius voldemort. Self flagellation por no choosy Ollius Wines.
  20. You have beaten the chaste demonland censor! Hats off!
  21. So ... what's coming our way from EFC to burn us? I'm anticipating some instant karma re Milkshake and Goodstuff to land on us instead of EFC.
  22. Tell her you're looking up holiday destinations where you might take her.
  23. Getting his hair done by Rene Kink?
  24. Every club will be keenly watching how it goes and it will take years for the jury to reach a decision. Much like how once it was seen as a clever thing to tank in order to pick up a Kruezer or a Watts. But in the fullness of time it's now not seen as so useful. Or going to Arizona for some high altitude training. Once, if you didn't do it, you were falling behind. Now, it's pretty much a team bonding exercise. Some clubs have to jump in and then others watch and wait and learn.
  25. It's because of our squandering of very early draft picks that the whole footy world has woken up to the idea that they're not as valuable as they were once made out to be. Exhibit A: Scully Exhibit B: Watts Now everyone sees that being a number one pick doesn't automatically make you a better player than the number 2 pick, and number 2 isn't better than no 3, etc. The real value of an early pick is that you get to survey the field to maximise your chance of a good player. Not so you can grab "the star" of the draft. No club in future will risk the cultural damage caused by tanking just to get one or two positions higher in the draft. The payoff just isn't there. But time was when it was thought well worth it.
