I didn't know Usain Bolt posted on demonland?
-
Of course, but hypothetically speaking if we had the choice I'd be picking Francis.
-
Would take him over Curnow. Natural footballer. Competitive. Great skills and mark.
-
Sweet holy Jesus. Tell me it's true.
-
Dolly Parton? Surely not...
-
Perhaps. The 'Saints in the running' talk throws a spanner straight at that line of thinking. The Sainters. Fark me.

Now why the F have you gone and said that? (But seriously. Regarding whom?)

Is it weird that there has been no mention of us being interested in or going hard for Treloar? I don't know what to think of it... Josh Mahoney wasn't even asked about it on SEN this arvo and I thought Schwarz would be the first to ask? Has he just refused to talk us like Caddy did those years back?

Some notes from Mahoney's SEN interview today: - Nothing new on Melksham. Wants to come. We need to work out a deal but I got the impression Melb and Ess were close on an agreement. - Financially there is a gap between the Howe contract offered from us and what he wants. (Nothing new). - No discussions with Luke Parker were made. Was just rumours. - Dawes and Watts. Didn't give a definitive answer either way. Sort of said that if clubs are interested, the club will look at it. But MFC players atm, yada yada. - Petracca at the club today, keen and ready for pre-season. Won't go straight into full training straight away but not too far behind. - Toump looking at other options, will know more come next week. - Bugg type of player that will help us. Didn't sound like it was locked. Informal discussions with GWS about him. A nothing interview to be honest. Wish they'd asked questions about Treloar and Lennon. Perhaps Schwarta knows something is brewing and didn't push it... (or perhaps not).

He's had a fairly interrupted start to his career because of injuries and like Salem showed glimpses in his first year when used predominately as a sub. He's actually had some really solid games in the VFL so I'm not sure why you say that. I agree that we have a handful of guys who play that half-forward role who we're trying to develop. But given his height, speed and kicking, I think he could also be given a role on a back flank. Beggars can't be choosers. We are a club who can't attract stars of the game yet. Lennon is seriously talented and we need talent at our club.
-
Ben Lennon still hasn't signed with Richmond. Would love him at our club, I rate him. Great skills, aggression, goal kicking and a good size. Not necessarily a list need but he is certainly in the bracket of 'top end talent' that you want at your club.

2015 AFL National Draft prospects: The next batch
stevethemanjordan replied to Whispering_Jack's topic in Melbourne Demons
Charlie Curnow Geelong Falcons Utility Height: 187cm, Weight: 88kg, DOB: 03/02/1997 "Unless you watched a lot of Falcons football in 2013, the name Charlie Curnow wouldnt be familiar. He didnt play Under 16s championships footy, he didnt feature in the Under 18 carnival this year either. Hes still new to the system, but hes come on like a bullet and a few key performances in his bottom-age year paved the way for a call up into the AFL Academy squad, with recruiters citing his elite athleticism, strong hands and game sense. Virtually untapped and still raw in facets, Curnow is a footballer whose athletic traits clubs have already fallen in love with. Hes been utilised in number of positions, predominately at either end of the ground with cameo appearances on a wing. He comes from a basketball background, where his speed, agility and elite natural leap have been standout attributes of his game." Read that from someone on bigfooty which was from last year. (Of course that means little). However, can someone shed some more light on how much footy this guy has actually played before this year? Or is it just that he hasn't been part of 'elite' squads through the junior ranks up until he played with the Falcons for his under 18 year? In any case, things that frighten me off about a potential top 10 draft pick are the above bolded lines. I really want us to nail this top 10 pick this year. Competitive natural footballers who can kick. That's all I care about. Of course I don't know much about him, but Curnow sounds like a pretty risky choice considering how little football he's featured in from 16's-18's. I get nightmares of previous draft packs. 'Athletic types', 'Raw talent', 'New to the system' These words arouse a serious aversion. -
Read it up until I saw Hurley at 19. 19. I then proceeded to laugh loudly. And calmly carried on with my day.
-
Good afternoon. What to say. Clearly the club values him highly and after reading that article it seems that his heart and head are with helping us move up the ladder. It was quite impressive to be honest... Obviously my opinion is based on what I see on game day either at the ground or on the television and clearly as a supporter, you don't and can't know all. And clearly I don't. I'll back Garland and the club on the decision and hope he can recapture his 2013 form next year as we desperately need him playing consistently high level football. I don't back away from my criticism of certain aspects of his playing. There are many things I'd like to see gone from his game next year and plenty of things I'd like to see added. I'd love to see some aggression added to his game, greater endurance and will to run and for him to minimise his decision making errors. He's always been good as a one-on-one defender but I want to see that 2013 versatility come back into his game. Thank you for your commitment Colin, I look forward to a big pre-season of running followed by a consistent year of footy.

Was my favourite player. Still is my favourite player. I loved everything about him from his draft day. Just a natural footballer who could easily have been in the top echelon of mids within the AFL. Incredibly unlucky to have endured what he has since being drafted, but I'm holding hope that he'll make up some serious ground in the second half of his career. As long as he stays injury free over the summer and can complete a full pre-season, I expect him to make a return to our starting 22 next year. I think it's obvious to say that for the longevity of his career, he needs to be managed very carefully next year. Play him off the forward flank perhaps rotating with Petracca. Give him games off. Just make sure he has a consistent run at it. We shouldn't expect him to be firing. Just contributing. Next year should be a preparation year for 2017 and onwards really. When you spend this much time off your feet and with a very limited running base, you need more than one pre-season to be at the right level of conditioning. Speed, power, strength, endurance. He'll be behind in all of those areas even after this coming pre-season. I know I'm guilty at times of looking at scenarios with a 'glass half empty' perspective, but with Trengove and Petracca I'm refusing to be negative. They're such rare talents. Players who suffer injuries like these guys always have to face a more challenging road. But I'm standing strong in thinking times are changing for both the team and individuals. I'm looking at Dan Menzel and Robbie Gray as inspiration. And I hope Trengove and Petracca are too. I love Jack and I really hope we see his true value and talent as a player in the coming years. Fingers crossed at this stage.

You asked about the pot-shotting. I answered. I never accused you of being part of that group. But that group exists on this thread. As for these 'facts' you're basing your argument on, you seem to be conveniently letting slide the one season that he has without doubt proven his worth and talents as a former number 10 draft pick. You've stated he's awful, yet you refuse to acknowledge what he has visibly shown on the football field. So what you're really basing your argument on is his last what, two years? Of which he's been in and out of a side who have had the largest of dark clouds hanging over it. Our club is interested in getting Melksham. Goodwin and McCartney have both been at Essendon with Melksham under their tutelage. What does that tell you mate? That he's awful? lol. He is an upgrade. He adds depth. There is potential for further improvement. They are facts. As for the last bolded line, it just demonstrates your love for exaggeration. Two reasons really: - He's a young player still developing - Collingwood have a string of small forward/midfielders ahead of him and with greater games experience Riley was delisted and we picked him up as a DFA. Newton and Michie were third round draft picks and have helped with our depth. Kennedy possesses a whole range of attributes that our team still lacks. I give up. -

You insinuate the reason why Ben Kennedy hasn't been getting regular games is solely to do with his ability or talent as a player. Again. Clearly no idea. I'm assuming you thought (Josh) Kennedy was a dud at Hawthorn before he moved to Sydney then? And the countless others who once moved clubs, became valuable players. -

When posters dislike the personality of a player and decide to base their entire argument against recruiting that particular player because of the dislike, it's completely nonsensical. That seems to be the trending theme of this thread. I'll mock them all I like. Either that, or people just refuse to see any positivity surrounding Melksham as a footballer. You being one. In your first post, you state that he's awful which means you didn't see his season in 2013. Or if you did, I'm even more baffled. Awful is a strong word 'Members Wing'. Do you think Watts is awful? How many die-hard supporters on this forum think he's awful? Only a minority. Because he plays for Melbourne. Chatted to any other die-hard supporters from other clubs about him? Overwhelming majority would think he's awful. Generally, die-hard supporters don't have a [censored] clue what they're talking about because they cannot see past their teams colours. Melksham coming into our side for an injured starting 22 player over McKenzie, Bail or Riley actually would help. And if Kennedy was another, it would help too. Our depth has been non-existent. Melksham has runs on the board. Bridge the gap between your best and worst players, and you begin to become a more competitive team when injuries start hitting. That's a fact. It's all part of the puzzle. -
No it ain't. Your ears just aren't attuned to the music yet.
-
Having watched him play, he's not someone who sets the world on fire. But the whole idea behind bringing in these types of players at our club is that competition for spots becomes hotter and generally higher standards are set whether that be on game day or at training and that's nothing but a good thing. We're starting to bridge the gap now between our starting 22 and then 'the rest'. One day we'll stop having to find so many of these types of players and we'd hopefully be able to attract some house-hold names. But clearly we're not in a position to do that. So let's just be happy that we're refreshing the list with new faces, upgraded depth and a new energy brought to the club by these types of players.
