Does Casey have a reserve side or do the non selected players just go back to their local clubs

SEN: Dees the Best Side on Paper
I think you've got it right. Tmac is more a mobile forward than a tall one and JVR is even shorter (similar size to some on ballers). From watching training JVR is a beast who hunts packs and stoppages. He will have a real defensive element that you normally give to small forwards. So you don't lose mobility by including all 3.

Training Ground?
Caulfield grammarians football ground is adjacent to the race course at the back which could be developed for AFLW games and occasional Casey games with access for spectators. When I played there it was Glenhuntly football club with lots of memories running around the racecourse pre season.

TRAINING: Wednesday 18th January 2023
Yes it's a good comparison. But Seston could be gold in that he kicks goals. Not many of our small/medium forwards kick goals consistently but watching him on Monday he can just turn and kick off a step knowing where they are. I don't know whether he can do that often enough, so will just have to wait and see how he goes at Casey.

TRAINING: Monday 16th January 2023
Went with a friend to watch training this morning. They have 3 sets of temporary grandstands set up next to the rooms for spectators and get a good view of everything. Fritsch was the only absentee and J Smith was on the bike for the whole session. Everyone in their own numbers except JVR in 44, Kye Turner is 47 and Burgoyne 33. Started off with goal kicking which has been described before. Then an agility routine where where they ducked around ski poles whilst marking short kicks, receiving and giving handballs. Then a couple of other similar groups (of which there were 3 of 15 or 16 players). In one a ball was tossed in with 5 in white tabbards trying to intercept or tackle whilst other team handballed it around. At this stage one of the groups was all the tall players probably 194 or more and their skills below their knees were great. The had to at least bounce handball through the group a couple of times. When you saw 16 such tall players together you realised we are going to be a tall side, even if 6 are at Casey. May's anticipation and tackling stood out. Then whole ground long kicks one way, punch to defend and switch with handballs from defence then run and handball or short kicks to the other end. Very slick movement. It was in this that I saw Grundy on a few occasions just take off and try and get ahead of the play into the forward line. From that and previous reports,I think that is what he is going to do. They then did different versions of match practice which included free kicks, 50 metres etc. In this it stood out just how far the 1st and 2nd year players are behind the senior players Hibberd, May, Lever and Petty work really well together. Of the new players Hunter stood out - just kept hitting targets and got a bit of the ball. Grundy was very mobile but Max dominated. Schache took one good mark but that's all I saw him do. The 2 Turners were OK but a level below the others. Burgoyne was in the match practice but didn't seem to do much. Kozzie was quiet but looked good if that makes sense. Brown was very good, TMac and Bowie were OK JVR was impressive. Chandler and Spargo got involved. Trac, Oliver, Viney Langdon, Brayshaw, Harmes and Sparrow were a level above the rest. ANB was quiet and at one stage came off with maybe a groin issue, but came back on. Thommo did well - looks to have lost weight and moves a bit freer. Salem, Melksham, Jordan, Dunstan and Laurie were quiet. The young ones do well in the skills drills but just don't have the body or presence to impact in the match play. Seston has a body that could compete but a long way behind. Howes is probably the closest but will take him a while.

TRAINING: Friday 13th January 2023
A mate told me that choco sat with the spectators in the new temporary stands and explained what was happening and how the drones worked. Great PR.

TRAINING: Monday 9th January 2023
From the reports it seems Seston seems to be involved more than the other recruits. Does he look like a chance later in the year or more like JVR last year and another season away

TRAINING: Wednesday 14th December 2022
I think he was the same last year but was right by round one.

Training Ground?
The government know they have to do something about Punt Road, and that will take years. In the meantime they are not going to allow any major project within 100 metres until at least plannig is completed.

Welcome to Demonland Jed Adams
Intercepts like Lever, Marks like Petty and accurate left foot kick like May. At pushing 90Kgs could play next year if he shows form. Great pick up that covers a lot of needs.
-
Welcome to Demonland Matthew Jefferson
That's interesting. In the earlier reports he was shown as slightly shorter and only 79kgs. Must be growing and filling out

Welcome to Demonland Matthew Jefferson

Adam Tomlinson on the move?
too slow

James Harmes off to Essendon?
It took Sparrow a few years to get to his current hard body midfielder role, so any new young player will take a long time to do the role of Harmes. Dunstan might play a similar role but doesn't have an overhead marking ability, nor to kick the odd multiple goal game. Jordan is not the physical type. Maybe if howes can put on a few KGs in pre season he could fill the role. We could do with a 190cm midfielder. Will be really sorry to see him go, but can understand he wants more midfield time.

Injured Players
Geelong and collingwood only two teams not playing multiple injured players in finals. Same thing with dogs last year. Having a fit team is everything.

2022 List and Contract Details
If he doesn't get a home, I hope we rookie him He's the sort that could develop later than most if we can afford the time.

CHANGES: SF vs Brisbane
I watched the kid from FREO who has only played two games kick multiple goals, and has a similar game to JVR. Why JVR wasn't given a couple of games prior to finals amazes me.
-
CHANGES: Rd 22 vs Carlton
We lost last week because of 5 free kicks in front of goal, but we are not going to drop culprits Viney, Petty or May We also lost because of missing easy shots at goal, but we are not going to drop culprits Gawn, Salem or Kossie No point making whoelsale changes just because we lost.

Jumping Joel goes forward
Defenders very rarely let a forward have room to run at a ball and leap. You need the forward craft of fritsch or reiwoldt to do that. The other type has to have the build to use their bulk. He is certainly a lot stronger than 2018 when he last played forward. Maybe he can learn to use his speed to get space to jump. Worth a try. He'll certainly give forward pressure.

CHANGES: Rd 21 vs Collingwood
If JVR comes in it has to be for Melksham. JVR is too small to play as the only tall forward. If Weid goes out it has to be for BBB. We have to have one TALL key forward at least If NB goes out then it is a fight between Harmes, Dunstan and Chandler. My choice is Harmes.
