  1. "Anyway it's not Nicholson he's been dropped for its Watts so come on Jack it's up to you to show something for once." He must have shown something more than once if we can believe that all those recruiting officers are waving cheque books in his direction!!!!
  2. "Absolutely sick and tired of hearing this about Melbourne players. By the way, who was the last Demon to dominate in a good team?" Chapman Jarman Wilson Byrne Elshaug Parke Brewer
  3. rjay... if it were only that simple! One man sins, one man is guilty, one man is held accountable, one man cops all the blame! There may have been a breakdown across many in office at the time. I don't know. What I am saying is that until I hear concrete evidence, I am not going to blame one man! I haven't heard any substantial facts about what CS has allegedly done to cause the Club to spiral ever downward, and I read the daily papers daily and visit this forum several times daily. All I hear is hearsay. If you can enlighten me, go ahead... (insert Clint Eastwood quote here).
  4. Tim, I'm flattered that you have quoted me. I think we might be confusing Secretaries with CEO's. That could be my fault, however, we might also insert "wily" for "shonky" and be talking about similar traits.
  5. Grimseyisgod & Whispering have said all that needs to be said... The players are best placed to drag this club out of the [censored] it finds itself in. Toughness is an essential ingredient, but it comes when players have desire. The players should be meeting with no one else present... they should look at all the [censored] that is being heaped on them and resolve to do something about it. They don't need a coach to tell them things aren't going well. I will sleep easy when I hear that the players have taken things into their own hands!
  6. I've been following the Demons since 1961 and I rate CS very highly, may have been the best CEO we have had. There seems to be a notion around here that he was a bit shonky. Some of the most successful CEO's in this time frame have been a bit shonky. I don't know if he was or wasn't... like all of you! What I do know is that he was a charming host of various forums I attended, he was passionate about lifting the Demons out of the mire and he was intelligent (a commodity that many of his detractors lack). I like all of the changes he instigated and I thank him for what he tried to do for the club. Until I hear evidence to the contrary, I will respect him as a driving force in a cut-throat competition who had a vision and pursued it vigorously. If some of the players didn't approve of his involvement in their concerns, let them illustrate how they can put us back on the map now that he has been evicted!
  7. Caroline should be forced to prefix every article with the words "AFL pawn". If we have learnt anything from the tanking saga and its shoddy conclusion, it is that Caroline was on 'drip-feed' from AFL insiders. Accept that premise and you would not be surprised that she writes whatever serves an AFL hidden agenda. The AFL are taking control of our club under the umbrella of 'basket case'. Of course, those in the engine room of our once proud MFC seem to have meekly delivered us up for sacrifice. The danger now is that they can merge us, delete us, or send us elsewhere if it serves them well!
  8. I attended Sunday with my 17 year old son. We had some big issues to discuss while watching. I spent a bit of energy screaming at McBurney (Strauss running too far - NOT, his refusal to pay over the shoulders & neck to MFC players, pulling out the free before the start of the third quarter... I could go on and on), but had to acknowledge how bad we were. Things got a bit tense between me and the boy at half time. By ten minutes into the third I suggested we leave and try to resolve our dispute. We sat in the car park and talked, then pulled out of the ground just before the final siren. I have never left a game that early before. As we drove home I was thinking I wouldn't be back until we showed drastic improvement. I was very depressed about how far the MFC had fallen. I felt it was only a matter of time before the coach got the flick. That was Sunday night. Before I went to bed I came to another understanding about the football... It was a special thing that I shared with my son! It wasn't all about winning and losing, it was our chance to be together, to share a tradition. I got up Monday morning and checked the fixture. My son's 18th Birthday is next month and I realised that the Bulldogs game is the first opportunity I will get to take him into the Long Room and shout him a beer. I woke him up this morning to tell him to get his collar and tie sorted because we have a very important date coming up, he was rapt. So, we will be there next weekend and whenever the Dees play in town. Coaches will come and go but families, and their traditions, last forever.
  9. It's the position he was impressive in when he first joined the Kanga's. He has tried to make it as a forward because it was part of the deal to get him here (IMO), he has kicked some handy goals but it would be a win/win if he set his sights on CHB. He has the height, size and leap to be a very good spoiler on tall forwards.
  10. Pederson and the coaching panel need to realise that he is the missing tall from the backline. Once that decision is made, Pederson has a future!
  11. Let's face it Roost It is a dud! If he wasn't a dud he wouldn't set himself up for such a fall. I suppose he will have to morph into some other online identity when Toumpas surpasses Roost's pathetic appraisal. That day will certainly come by 2014, but I'm feeling empowered by Roost's lack of nouse... It is far more likely that Toumpas will prove his worth in 2013. Thanks for the upcoming opportunity to shove your head back into your shell Roosty old boy!
  12. the master... I think there is a lot of worthwhile sentiment in what you are saying. If only we had the sort of player that Hodge, Lewis, Roughead, Osborne & Guerra are. Last weekend we were monstered by McGrath, Merrett and even a few of the Lion kids! (Only Davey, our slightest player, flew the Grand Old Flag) I would love to see N Jones, Frawley, Jamar, Tapscott, & Dawes make a physical statement. Supporters need to see the players FIGHT for MFC honour... Just do it! We couldn't be held in lower esteem by the competition!
  13. I thought this interview was pre-recorded. The comments regarding MN may have come soon after the big Bomber defeat... just a thought.
  14. Was looking forward to hearing more from the interview. Whether or not DS would make a good coach is off topic.
  15. Tierlich can kick long, it's just that his short kicks are not hitiing the target as we would like.
  16. We did try to get Monfries and Boak and Caddy and Ray and a few others I imagine. Can't be accused of not trying. The mid-field fix will take three years. Who is going to be around to celebrate? Me for one!
  17. Ok... Moloney restored my faith in... Moloney! We should have tagged him... maybe we did... if we did it didn't work and the player(s) should be held accountable. Who do we have that could do a good job of tagging him (in hindsight)? Batram... N Brown... Ok, too much hindsight!... current list... maybe Dunn? ... I'm done! The required tagger hasn't surfaced yet, but by Brian, we needed him.
  18. Love reading your reports & updates KC, thanks again.
  19. I put up the scores from last season to show that the 28 point loss yesterday does not automatically decree that we have gone backwards. We have had many a loss at the Gabba over the years. What is annoying to us all is that it was a winnable game but we botched it (Bail not seeing Davey 20 metres clear in the goalsquare is one that annoyed me most). However, we seem to be gradually improving on our first two rounds (Didn't everyone underestimate Port & Essendon?). Yes, there are worrying signs but things can turn around in this game (just look at Port & Essendon).
  20. 2012 at the Gabba Brisbane 18 14 122 Melb 8 13 61
  21. Here's a few observations possibly not mentioned above. Brisbane beat us by 61 points in the Gabba game last year. Bail misses too many gettable goals and that is his biggest weakness. Howe didn't do enough in the second half. Matt Jones got his hands on it a lot, but rushed it a bit today... still amongst our better players. McGrath and Merrett alwas rag-doll us and get away with murder in the packs. Thought the umpire was excellent with Flash after he flew the flag on behalf of Tappy. Frawley was good today without being a clear winner. N Jones was disappointing... seemed to accept being tagged out too easily. Watts did what he always has... finds a way to take a few closely contested marks and kicks them straight from any angle. We need him forward with Clark and Dawes out. If Max gets a run at it without injury he is going to be awesome. Sylvia is having a consistent patch that should be applauded. Pederson is a tall back option when we are crying out for one.
  22. Byrnes has certainly been in our best for the past two games. So I think that statement stands up pretty bloody well! Next...
  23. Blease got hit hard when we got the early goal from the free down field. Maybe he never recovered. It would seem he and Pederson are most at risk. I don't see Clark or dawes being ready for next week v Blues, so I don't expect many changes. Maybe Viney for Blease. Pederson played well against GWS, but his best position for us is not forward. We lack a tall backman almost as much as we lack A-grade mids. I would play Pederson at CHB. Free McDonald up to play on the flanks and run. Get Magner into the mix as soon as possible.
  24. Come to think of it, there were a lot who wanted to get rid of Moloney on last season's form.
