  1. I’m all for it depending on what comes with pick 1. 4&5 is a lot to give up. Harley would want to be even better than I already I think he is.
  2. I was concerned about this also, and I think it may be Tmac who fills the Melksham shaped void. He has always seemed to me to be a very frustrating player to play against because he doesn’t seem to be that good, but if you don’t respect his abilities he’ll bob up with 2-3 goals that you shouldn’t really let him kick.
  3. This thread has devolved into a series of carp jokes.
  4. Pretty sure he had 3 years anyway? Unless there was a trigger.
  5. In all honesty, I can’t stop thinking that a version of the following will eventuate... I steadfastly believe we are in the box seat for the flag. Even if we only come close to a flag, as the trade period approaches the questions will be asked by some predictable media bozos like Robbo (ignoring the mechanics of how it came about) of “how is it that the premier (or close to it) can possibly end up with the number 1 pick? What happened to equalisation? It’s not working” Following this, the AFL will made a private edict to North Melb that they may have access to assistance only on the proviso that any early pick be traded to Westcoast for pick 1, enabling: - the number 1 pick to go to a team seen by the general footy public as “deserving”; - North to get the assistance they desperately crave and improve considerably; - Westcoast to get paid over the odds for pick 1, providing an engineered result where they are able to rebuild quicker than normal with multiple early picks they have not “earned”, somewhat avoiding a situation where the turgid performances roll on with no end in sight; - (Momentarily) rid the AFL of ghastly teams that turn out putrid performances on repeat & create effectively a number of bye rounds; - the right look and feel, as far as the AFL are concerned; and - ultimately probably the best outcome for MFC, saving us from ourselves and we end up using goldcoasts pick to snare us a combo like Duursma & O’Sullivan.
  6. Would have thought we’d be more chance of getting Elijah Hollands.
  7. I’m sure there’ll be plenty of speculation as to his fitness or return timeframe, but any “experts” have any insight?
  8. Wait a sec, just cos he’s been playing on the wing this season doesn’t mean he’s not a small forward. He certainly was when he was drafted.
  9. Closest I can think of is Sydney winning the flag then recruiting Buddy.
  10. No, there is no benefit in GC keeping the pick, as it will be absorbed in academy bidding, so they want to trade it. We would only need to outbid every other club. In theory. Unless you’re saying that this is what will be required to outbid another club, which I think is doubtful.
  11. Why is this so often seen as a given?
  12. Westcoast’s list is in a putrid state. They need bulk early picks to regenerate. No use getting a star with pick 1 if he’ll leave like JHF after a year or 2 cos he’s sick of being obliterated weekly. They’re better off getting 2 or 3 vey good players to lift the level, rather than 1 elite. Westcoast last year applied the strategy of trading pick 2 for 2 later first rounders, and appear to be more than open to doing similar this year. Conversely, we’re in a position where we don’t need much list turnover and already have a lot of talent in most positions. As we are limited to selecting 22 on game day, we’re better off consolidating the quantity of talent that comes with each pick, by trading for a sure-thing. We’d rather have 1 elite player in the side over 1 very good player in the side and another 2 at Casey. Depth is great to have but only to a point. In theory.
  13. Might need to do some work with GC first to facilitate the trade. Just assumption on my part.
  14. Yeah, cool pedantry. Beyond pick 8 which they obviously won’t want to give up, they have zero trade currency (without mortgaging their future, which I didn’t think needed to be pointed out). Would love to see the cats get Smith, but can’t see it happening.
  15. Not really, because they won’t want to give that up and it may not be enough alone. More importantly, they’d be mortgaging their future on a player that will flame out brilliantly. I hope they go for it.
  16. Good luck to Geelong who have next to zero trade currency
  17. Also judging by his reaction to the knee injury in Round 2, he thought if it was an ACL that it meant his career was over, so can’t be too far from the end. He has plenty of fingers in many pies, young Maxy.
  18. Pick 1 back on, better than Suns finishing above Freo and securing pick 4. We may well end up with the Suns’ pick 4 anyway, it’ll just cost us slightly more than if it were pick 5.
  19. I think we need to be well and truly prepared for Yze to leave, because if he doesn’t get the Richmond job, he’ll probably get the Bulldogs job. Although, they’re even more likely to shift themselves in the foot with a Giansiracusa selection.
  20. Love it when one of the anti-GNFs throw us a bone. Kudos as always.
  21. Therein lies the beauty of the specificity; it lends the appearance of credibility, even when the specifics were most likely pure supposition. Caro is a well-researched fortune teller.
  22. Because it wouldn’t cost pick 5 to get Georgiades & Grundy is leaving regardless?
  23. Yeah, nah, Mathieson is certainly a tool and it’s a minor miracle he has lasted so long for a player who is solidly VFL quality.
