LATE CALL: CAM PEDERSEN WAS A MARVEL
dazzledavey36 replied to Whispering_Jack's topic in Melbourne Demons
We had a lot of fun with that "Pedo" nickname back when he was running around. In regards to this thread. One of my all time favourites, absolute workhorse who I thought was harshly dealt with at times when Roosy would pick Chris 'bucket hands' Dawes over him at times. -

I'll reserve judgement in this. I can see both sides of why this could either work or not. No one ever thought Cam Pederson would turn into Polly Farmer when he had to ruck all by himself back in 2017 when Maxy missed with a hamstring, so let's see what Petty has to offer, the mobility around the ground is probably why I think it could work. My next question though is why the hell did we go out and recruit Tom Fullarton. I was never a fan of the this recruitment right from the very start simply because he lacked the basic physical presence to be a ruckman. If he isn't going to get a game when our main ruckman goes down then we either bite the bullet and delist at the end of the year or he looks for other opportunities. Hate using this term but he's a true definition of a list clogger at this stage.

Was courted heavily by Richmond and the Doggies.

Predicted some rain on Saturday. Actually don't mind this, would slow Essendons ball movement down a notch at least.

That was on the eve of 1998 season. Imagine had we got him on board.. could he have been the difference in winning that flag in 98.
-
These guys aren't winning you big games or finals anytime soon. Oscar Allen could be a 3-4 goal difference come September. He kicked 53 goals last year. Put him in our forward line last year and we win the flag.

Mate I'm not Lord Nev.. 😆

Probably our best in form defender. Surely he's got a contract coming his way?
-
There were certainly rumours last year of us supposedly reaching out to Allen's management as there was some talk he was bit disgruntled with the club and us apparently set to offer a monster deal. Could be some truth to this. Not that I think this will grow any more legs pr eventuate, but I have no doubt we've probably done some background check.

The deliberate was there everyday of the week.

What he said.

Good lord..

Just earned himself another contract. Didn't miss a beat.

The kid is an animal. A campaigner that will be the first to bat for teammates and another that opposition supporters will hate. My type of player.

It's the kids for me that is the story of today. Kolt has swagger and campaigner about him. I have desperately wanted this kind of player since Bernie Vince or Tom Bugg. He's also a very impressive young player JVR will be a our number 1 key forward from next year onwards. He's got it all. Windsor - Enough said, the kid has class and star factor. McVee - All class and silk. His composure right on the members wing pretty dam impressive. Andy Moniz Wakefield - give me a contract extension. The kid is a beauty. Tough, composed and reminds of another #45 who used to bounced off half back. Turner rarely loses a contests. He engages and then brings the ball to ground. He'll only get better with age and experience. Then there is Rivers and Koz who play like 150 game veterans.

Another rubbish last quarter on display.

I understand why we brought in a forward/ruckman but perplexed why we didn't go for someone like a Mabior Chol who had actually proven he can play at AFL level. I never supported the Fullerton recruitment right from the very start, but I thought there were opportunities to bring him into the senior side this year purely for JVR to focus fully on being a key forward and to actually give Max a proper chop out. The past few weeks Max has looked tired and it's a concern that we are running him onto the ground with minimal support.

This has nothing to do with the Melksham selection, but to say supporters have no clue with team selection advice is pretty funny considering some of the team selections this year already from the same coaches have been truly and utterly baffling in itself. You ask any AFL coach on team selection throughout the year and they'll be the first to admit that there are times where they have gotten selection wrong on a Thursday night. There have certainly been some with the Dees this year.
