Oh yeah he absolutely goes over the top and he's said things in the past about Melbourne where I've strongly disagreed on, but generally I find him decent to listen to.
-
Wow.. what a way to completely miss a point and attempt at putting words in my mouth. That wasn't even what i was implying at all. Have another attempt. I'll grant you 3 chances to get it. You've used up one..

Good on him. Not going to knock a bloke down for working his way up and make a living for what he does. He's clearly good at doing what he does and that's to sell clicks. His current job is SEN Radio, Channel 9 Sunday Footy show and footy classified, AFL.com on a Saturday night with Riley Beveridge. Must be doing something right?

P.s Good to see you've unblocked me @Jaded No More See, I'm not too much of a baddie..

Well yeah, in fairness he has. https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.foxsports.com.au/afl/teams/melbourne-demons/afl-2022-clayton-oliver-sevenyear-contract-extension-7-million-david-king-and-kane-cornes-argue-debate-longterm-deals-melbourne-demons-latest/news-story/2803ca3b0e4a33cee55ee2d2ee692921

To be honest I don't think what he's said is anything controversial. He hasn't said that Melbourne will be looking to trade nor has Oliver's management are assessing at other options. I'd get it had he said any of this. With all the noise that Oliver has had since day 1 of this year and still continuing to do so I can understand why clubs will be asking the question. I mean, as an opposition club you'd be silly to at least not only ask the question but do your due diligence. I can see someone like a Chris Scott and the kids showing an interest. Maybe it's me, when I heard this at the time I just brushed it off and thought it's no different to any other star player that gets asked the question every single year.

If there's one thing I've learnt since reading this thread is that old Tommy boy certainly does trigger a few on here lol
-
I've had this exact same thought for a while now...
-
He did this in 2022 yes and it took its toll in the back end of the year. Thought he got better last year but this year he's gone to a new level.
-
Yeah a great target from a needs point of view. Outside player who's got sharp kicking skills. Would be best 22 straight away.

We are a number of clubs that have interest in Isaac Cumming according to Cal Twomey. It's understood Adelaide, Port Adelaide, Fremantle and Melbourne are all keen on Cumming, who is one of the hottest unrestricted free agents still available on the market.

Curnow and McKay for me. They're absolutely not winning games without Curnow not kicking his usual 3-4 a week.

Carlton have the midfield depth and system in place in being able to cover off Cripps. Was no different to how we were able to cover off Oliver last year. They'd have guys like Hewett, Elijah Hollands (a midfield star at under 18 level) Kennedy, Walsh and Cerra still able to run through the midfield and provide enough coverage. They covered off Walsh this year just fine when he missed the first 5 games and he's an absolute star in the making. Brisbane will be fine without Cameron. They have enough fire power up forward to cover him off. Averaging 1.6 goal a game which isn't something to write home about from his previous standard. I see someone like Kai Lohmann who's stepped up significantly this year and has become a goalkicker small to medium forward. I would say Kozzie Pickett for instance is a far bigger loss for us then people underestimate and that's far more harder to cover off imo then Oliver. His unique ability to score up forward and provide defensive pressure then its his midfield craft now and ability to just change game within minutes. His current trajectory right now is up there with some of the best small forwards this game has seen in the last decade as shown by one of the footy shows earlier this week. He's that good. Since the start of last year kozzie has missed 4 games due to suspension. We're 1-3 when Kozzie isn't playing..

The 2024 NGA list hasn't been released as of yet.
-
Completely disagree.

Thought of you straight away when I was writing up in this thread. I knew you'd be stoked. Also, great insight into the AFLW NGA, I'm glad it's the same with the women's program as it is with the men's. I remember watching that Andrew Dillion with Cal and Riley and that was the first time it pricked my ears up. I'm glad to hear now that they've taken into consideration and will revert back to the old NGA system so clubs have full access now to these kids that come through their system.
-
Ok. It is what it is. Try and look at the positives in this moving forward.
-
And how can you not be happy about this! That's why some have just completely missed the point on why they're reverting back to the original idea of it all. There's a bigger picture in this which the AFL have clearly admitted they got this wrong from the start hence why they changing it back to how it was. Hopefully now this means we see an increase in indigenous talent coming through, it's what the game needs.
-
To further explain why its good that clubs will hopefully be rewarded including Melbourne, is that they're getting kids in at around 10-12 years of age into their NGA program and that's where the education and development starts. They're putting in a mountain of work and resources in making sure they're setting these young kids up to be the best possible footballers they can be whether they make it into the system or not. It's amazing now what they're exposed too in the elite environment and I think this is a credit to footy clubs in putting in the time and development into these junior kids. From then on, I'm a big believer that these same clubs should absolutely have the right to have first access to these kids if deemed talented enough to be in the mix. The Mac Andrew situation left a completely sour taste in my mouth because I know they started with him around 12 or 13 years of age and exposed him to all our resources and junior development porgram only to then change the rules last minute which [censored] us over. It was a completely reactive decision from the AFL and I know Jason Taylor was absolutely filthy at this.

No.. It's giving clubs the right to actually be rewarded for the hard work and resources that they're putting into these development programs such as the NGA development system. I've seen it first hand with what Richmond have done up here in the regional areas near Victoria. We literally lost Mac Andrew because of this. Now we've got the chance to actually be rewarded if things fall into place. The changes after the Jamarra situation was a reactive decision which ruined clubs development system that they had in place. Look at the bigger picture.

Maybe I'm the only one that is happy with this move? Why? There's a genuine NGA prospect for the Dees next years draft by the name of Tarion Ah-Mu from the Dandenong Stringrays who is eligible for next year's draft. He's a 198cm imposing lad who plays as a genuine power forward and can pinch hit in the ruck. He plays with physicality and reminds me a little of Tom Hawkins from the bits of vision I've seen of him. He's played 6 Coates League game and has kicked 12 goals already. He's also dominating school footy all whilst still being an under-age prospect. If he keep his development up, he could easily become a top 20 draft prospect which would mean we would be able to match the bid.

Don't mind the Ladhams and Kearne option personally.
